am I sedentry/lightlyactive??

Hi,

I'm a student, so I spend a large chunk of my day sitting working at computer etc.  However, I go to 2weight lifting classes a weeks and 2high impact aerobics/boxingstyle classes a week, and I probably walk 3 times a week to my boyfs or to town and back which is 30mins each way.  I also walk to campus and back most weekdays which is 10mins each way.  So would you say I was sedentary or lightly/moderately active?  At the moment I've put myself as sedentary, cos i do spend so much time sitting, and then just logging my activity, but then I presume I probably have quite a high muscle composition from my weight lifting and aerobic classes, so my metabolic rate may be higher then a completely sedentary person.  What do people think? Thanks

I would imagine you'd be safe with lightly active; I was losing weight like crazy at the lightly active calorie level when I had about the same activity level as you're describing (I'm a student too, so I spend the majority of my time sitting).

I'm eating at sedentary right now since I'm in the midst of exams (haven't been to the gym in three weeks, literally spend all day sitting and working except for minimal walking to get where I need to go) and I'm still losing about a pound a week, so I think sedentary would be way too low for you. Try lightly active, and if you aren't losing or you end up losing too fast, you can always adjust.

Thanks!
