My lovely little brother is coming to town this weekend and he wants to go and see 300.... (when I say "little" I mean he's 21, but he'll always be little to me!)
I'm not very good with gory films, I can cope with violence but spurting blood and twitching limbs are beyond me (think the Saw films - I was the person fainting in the aisles...) so could someone who's already seen it please advise if its ok?
I know its a war film so it's not going to be very nice, but is it very graphic or is the violence justified within the setting?
Hmmm... I did suggest we saw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but he laughed at me.... he liked them when he was 7, but I think he's grown out of them now!

i enjoyed the film.. but my first comment after seeing it was "that was one bloody film!" if you can't cope well with gore.. i'd suggest not seeing it.
go see it, its a pretty good movie, i really enjoyed it and i dont normally care for "war" movies....go for the cinematography for anything else :D
its pretty gory (yes squirting blood, look at way the film title is written), but i guess its justified due to the topic of the film :D
plus there are a lot of pretty people to look at

In my opinion, it was a great movie and the violence was (mostly) justified.
It was shot in a very stylized manner, so to me the blood didn't seem real. I was fine the whole movie, and I couldn't even bring myself to watch the previews for Saw.
Hope that helps you make a decision.

Excellent movie! There were moments that made me squirm but it was NOT in "true color" so it didn't seem as gory to me as it could have.
Thanks for the info everyone, my gut instinct is that I probably won't enjoy this too much - I'll speak to him and see if there's anything else he would prefer to do but I'm a softie when it comes to my brothers and he'll talk me in to it - so when you find me on here at 4am with nightmares, you'll know why!
I didn't really find the movie that bloody. Compare it to the blood in Braveheart, and this movie's blood is more cartoony. It splatters when someone's head gets cut off, but the soldiers aren't covered in bright red blood or poddles of blood all over the place. It's as if the blood just evaporates and doesn't leave a stain. Plus, the way it was filmed, the blood isn't really bright red like we're used to stage blood in regular movies - it's more like a dark maroon.
The only thing I didn't like about the movie were the historically inaccurate details. But then again, this is a hollywood film, not a documentary. The message is still the same - a few against many to protect what we would come to call democracy and freedom. It's the beginnings of western civilization and a good story.

All in all, it's a fun movie. If you're going to see it, you definitely need to see it on the big screen. The blood splatters really seem to come out of the picture. I was joking with my husband that the people in the front row should have brought ponchos ;) Also, a fun game to play while watching the movie might be "Guess Frank Miller's Political Views." He makes it pretty clear.
Good movie and I concur with the others that stated that the blood didn't look "real" per se and it wasn't gore for the sake of gore. It was within the context of what was going on.
It was DH's turn to pick, but this was one movie I'm glad he chose. I found it interesting and made me want to study up on the real facts of this story.

Okay, what does DH stand for? I've seen enough people use it to know that it's not someone's initials. Unless you're all talking about the same person...
You should see, yes there is some gore but you can tell it's CG so it isn't really gross.
I spent the whole movie staring at the bodies in those little spartan leather speedos.. its ummm very motivational if you are thinking to start doing situps :P

YES GO SEE IT~
the violence is nowhere near as bad as saw, hostel, etc.
its very stylized, sort of removed from reality; its more ACTION less GORE.
its also breathtakingly gorgeous. you'll like it, dont worry
