See ya later, comfort zone

I am s t r e t c h i n g myself right now.  1st of all - just using this site, posting on a message board, even putting my little picture on it - is something that I have never done!  I took my first Kung Fu class last night and tonight I signed myself, my husband, and my daughter up at a gym.  Also, I have been talking to people about my plans for weight loss.  Usually I would never do that because what if I don't do it?  Then I will be embarassed and feel like a failure!  Not to mention, I am getting started with this plan 10 days before Christmas!  It's not just the eating that typically happens this time of year but also the money I am spending - I am not letting Christmas be an excuse.

Usually I am a strong, confident woman, but last night as I pulled up to that Kung Fu lesson, I began to get so scared.  I felt vulnerable, I was worried that they wouldn't want me there.  I have never taken any classes like that.  This was way outside my comfort zone.  But my husband is so proud of me and he can't believe I took the initiative on something like that since it wasn't anything I had ever expressed an interest in.  He was so happy for me and excited about the class that he is going to take it with me!

I just want to thank all of you because whether you knew it or not, you were inspiring me to do this.  I found this site about a week ago and have been reading posts and peoples profiles and pics, you are all really encouraging to each other!  And now, I am ready to join the club!

YAY!! good for you, keep it up!!!   :-)
welcome to the club!!!!!

Your getting off to a great start!!! But remmeber to start off slow, try your best, and keep your head up.

Your husband sounds so supportive :) And great job for taking the Kung Fu classes! Martial arts is one of the best (and my old time favorite) type of exercise :)
I think this deserves a bump. =)

When I was proposed to, I told my parents by refusing their fatty foods and opting for salads.  When they asked why, I told them I had to fit into my wedding dress.  They chuckled and said I wasn't going to lose any weight, that I never have and never will, but congratulated me on my future husband.

It was that day that I made a new screen name on Calorie-Count and really stuck to this.  Now I'm 45 pounds lighter and I talk a lot more openly about my weight goals.  I don't get scrutiny for it like I used to.

Some days you've got to pretend you've got the confidence and just go with it.  You'll eventually find you're no longer pretending.
Good for you! It took me 27 years to be "ready" -- then I made it a lifestyle; no more conventional diets!

Eat right (most of the time, exercise, and be patient. It's fun to me now!

Good luck!

Thanks, you guys!  Yes, Tim is very supportive and he has his own weight to lose so we can do it together.

Cellulitedelight - people can be so weird.  I remember once a family friend commenting on how thin my cousin was and then she said, "I can't wait until she has kids and gets fat like the rest of us"  I was so offended!  My cousin is beautiful and why anyone would wish a weight problem on her I will never understand.  It's so unfortunate that such a memorable moment for you will always be connected to such a careless comment.  But I know you know what you've got.  Walk it off, baby, walk it off. ;0

Awesome!  I am glad you are here.  Welcome and good luck!  You can do it!
