Seeking Accountibili-buddies!

Quote  |  Reply

Well hello there CCers.

I am looking for an accountibili-buddy. I -hate- exercise. So I need someone to motivate me.

I have no level of fitness right now. I do own an elliptical which gets sporadic use.

I am looking for someone who does not mind daily check ins and acountibility measurements.

Anyone is welcome, the more accountability the better. I would like to design a workout routine together so that we are doing the same things on the same days. Discussing frustration, motivation and difficulty with the same things.

EDIT** If you want to join us at any time feel free to start checking in with your workout frustrations and motivations.

Please list your personal fitness goals. I'll start.

Personal goals:

Run 2 miles

60 crunches in 2 min

30 pushups in 2 min

25 burpees in 2 minute.

30 eight count bodybuilders in 2 min.

continuous planks for 2 min.

hilary - Nice to meet you too! And yeah, especially once you see the gross practices of certain co-workers (sweating, wiping their face with their hand, then preparing food, neglecting to wear hairnets or gloves, etc) you'll be disgusted out of fast food forever!

My fitness goals are... Odd. I didn't just start this - I've already lost 75lbs, and I'm now close enough to my goal that I need to decide exactly where I'd like to end up. I definitely want to get from "overweight" to "average", and I'd like to be more fit overall. I don't have a goal of how many pushups or situps or burpees (what IS a burpee? Sounds like a slushy drink) I'd like to do, but I want to be more fit. I want to do p90x, which is a (big, hard, scary) fitness program - maybe going to try p90x Lean first? Seems easier. Of course, I'm about... $800 away from starting. I want to get some adjustable dumbbells first, plus a heart rate monitor. And I've been wanting to get a bodybugg too.

Currently, though? I'm a checkout clerk at a grocery store and I've got to bag my own groceries, I go to a gym about 4 times a week, and I take 5 mile hikes at least 3 mornings a week. And on days where I've eaten too much and need to "erase" some calories, I also do yoga or ride an elliptical.

Wow! Seventy-five pounds! You're remarkable! I lost quite a bit of weight highschool as well, actually went from about 175 to 131 (I'm 5'11' - eep, I know). It's hard to know where you want to end up. However, I know what it's like to be overweight as well, as, in junior high I hit a high weight of about 205 lbs. (I was lucky to have a mom who fed me for nutrition and worried about "brain food", but this resulted in some serious gain in the teen years...).  Luckily, I kept an eye on it, and by highschool I was about 175. Now, I've put on a bit of college weight, and am 165 (up from 135 - 145).

LOLOLOL A burpee is a fitness move where you start standing up, and then put your hands down and jump your feet out into a plank and then come back up. It's not easy :/.

Do you have any specific goals in terms of cardio or anything? It's amazing you go for a hike, four days a week. I'd love to do the same. I live in the semi-country, and there are some great trails around here, but I'm nervous to go alone. Do you have a hiking buddy, or do you usually hit the trail toute seule?

I had a brutal weekend for exercise. I did some cleaning but that was about it. I didn't eat too much though. How did everyone else do??

P.S. They're not too bad at work, but just seeing so much pizza and pasta makes it not appetizing. Now, if I could only work at a bakery next summer...

Hi All!!!    Sorry it's been a while.  I didn't really work out this weekend but we worked really hard in the yard.  We had to dig trenches for electrical service.  I'm not sure how many calories you burn shoveling for 6 hours a day on both Sat & Sun but I can tell you I am so sore this morning.  My arms, my back-okay pretty much everything is sore.  I did not eat great but we did a lot of work and it was pretty hot.

Emily-I just quit smoking April 2nd.  I used Chantix and it made it pretty easy.  I have to say I feel pretty good and glad to be done.  You take the medication for a week before quitting and before the week was over the taste of cigs was absolutely horrible.  It sure made quitting easier this time around it made the cravings almost just a fleeting thought in your head.  That is part of my problem with working out.  I was doing really good up to April and I told myself I was going to devote everything to quitting and I stopped working out-don't do that!!!  I am now a quitter but I can't seem to get back on track to work out and eat right.  I know that I have probably gained about 10 pounds.

So we are going camping on Weds and coming home next Mon.  I'm giving myself one more week.  But come next Tues-I will have absolutely no more excuse to not exercise.  30 day shred is a DVD from Jillian Michaels and it has 3 levels each work out is 20 mins you do circuits with cardio/weights and abs.  I really like it and I was adding in cardio after (that was when I was doing good.)

Hope everyone has a great week.  Keep it up!!!!!

Welcome back Wyogirl. We missed you!

As for the medications to quit smoking I can't or rather refuse to take any of them. I am diagnosed bi-polar and any MAOI's or anti depressants really send me on a ride. Since I don't take other mood stabilizers I can't just hop onto something like Chantrix or Welbutrin. I bought the gum, but still had smokes left today. I plan on starting quitting tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

I haven't worked out since Friday. I walked three miles friday and the rest of the weekend was devoted to finals. Today I drove five hours to my moms house. SO its back on the wagon tomorrow.

BTW- I've lost 5 lbs since may 4th. I was only doing 5lbs a month. This exercize thing is already paying off.

Cheers everyone. Hope you hit the gym this weekend or tomorow like me!

<3

I agree-you can't quit if you have smokes left.  Thats why my quit date was April 2nd-not the 1st.  Good Luck!!!  It is really hard but if you can just get through the first day the second is a tad bit easier so is the 3rd.  Anyway-Good Luck!!

I did go for a 2 mile walk last night with my boys.  I am still coasting this week until vacation is over.

Welcome back wyo girl! I bet digging trenches is hard work, sheesh. It's good to stay active that way though. I also love workout dvds... I've never tried Jillian Michaels but I used to be crazy into Billy Blanks! The man is gifted :).

Congrats on the weight loss Emily, working out makes a huge difference. (As troublesome as it may be...). You're studying for finals? What program are you in? I just finished finals, and am now studying for the LSATs...

As for working out, I went for a walk on Monday and did 30 minutes of toning this evening, while watching Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report... amazing how time flies :).  Tomorrow I'm working for eight hours and am bound to be exhausted, but I still scheduled myself in for some workout time when I get home. Nonetheless, I realize that this is a little unrealistic, since I typically hobble home and am barely awake by the end of the shift.

Let me know how you all are doing :).

Its not so hard to lose 75 when you're 100lbs overweight - its the last 25 that are the problem! I usually hike alone, though it would be nice to find a buddy? But it never feels like you're alone on that path... There's tons of cute little animals! Ducks and their ducklings, deer, kitties, squirrels, bunnies, unique birds, some badger/groundhog thing... Makes you feel like snow white! As for cardio goals... I'd love to be able to run... for real. Not just for 3 seconds to catch up with someone. I'm not so good at it... get winded too easy!

Before I start my workout program, there's a fitness test you're supposed to pass - I suppose passing that is my first goal!

wyo - I'm sure you didn't gain 10 lbs in less than two months! But if it goes on that quickly, it should probably come off the same way, right?

Novileigh - it certainly sounds like you have an awesome nature path. Wish I could be so lucky!

How is everyone's workout mission going? I'm being beaten to a bloody pulp by this job I currently have, but I'm wondering if anyone wants to start working towards a common fitness goal, like a couch to 5k plan or something. Let me know what you think.

Looking forward to hearing about your progress :).

BRAGPOST! Just got my semi-monthly weigh in done. Since 3/31, I've lost almost 9 inches total, 8 lbs, and 1.20%  body fat! Very happy!

End of bragging. hah.

hilary - I wouldn't mind working toward a common goal if everyone else is into it!

That's so great!! Doesn't it feel awesome??

I found this plan online for the couch to 5k. It seems very beginner, I'm not sure where everyone's fitness level is, but when I hit the treadmill through the year, I did four minutes of running and a minute rest for 45 min. to an hour. I'd be willing to try this though, because I'm getting a lot of exercise at work, and I haven't run outside in a long time. Let me know what you think.

Congrats again Novileigh :).

Thank you! It really does feel great.

I'd be okay with starting something like that? I don't run much (ie, at all) but I walk and am sort of fit in general, so I think I could pull it off? As long as it won't be too  beginner for you, since you're used to being at a higher level than that!

LOL, I'm not at a much higher level than that, I think I peaked at a week three style workout routine, and I haven't run in a while, so it should be fine. How have your workouts been going? Where's Emily??

I've been sick for the past few days, so it's been hard for me to get on to post. I'm feeling a lot better today though, and am ready to get back into the exercise :).

I think the couch to 5k is an excellent plan. When would you like to begin?

P.S. I also found this about logging miles for June. It looks pretty neat. H

I haven't heard from Emily since her last post on here! Maybe she's busy.

My workouts have been... strained. I'm diabetic so whenever I'm feeling under the weather (including TTOM) I get hypoglycemic whenever I so much as lift a finger, much less try to work out! Its a calorie surplus and minimal effort for me, at least until I feel better. I'm glad you're feeling better though!

I'm good with starting whenever, but should we wait to see if Emily's interested first?

I am back-sort of.  I have had a serious viral infection that affected all of my joints.  I gained 9 pounds in 2 days of water retention.  My fingers, wrists, ankles, toes, nect etc are so swollen they ache.  For a few days there I seriously could not function without  lortab.  I had to take something for pain every 2 hours or I just wanted to cry.

So today I am a little better-still really swollen and my joints are sore but not as bad as last week.  I think I may be able to get back at it soon!!!  I am hoping anyway.  My weight-I don't know what to say-I am not going to worry about it until I am healthy.

I am going to try to go for a walk tonight-I will see how my ankles and legs feel.  Sounds like everyone else is dong good!!!!!

Keep it up

Hello Everyone!!

Sorry I have been gone so long. I was at my moms house and her computer bit the dust! I am home now, but just an FYI On the 11th of June I am moving cross country so I will probably be gone again. :(

Wyo, I am sorry you have been so sick. I cant even imagine being that bloated, hopefully you will get much better soon!!

I like the 100 mile walk thing!! I will be honest and say I will probably only get to 50. I do the elliptical. Do you think that will count? The couch to 5k thing looks interesting. I think that would be something that I could actually keep up with.

My issue is that when I run I end up injuring myself. My joints really do not like impact things. I can elliptical harder then I can run just because my feet and ankles don't die half way through minute one.

I feel bad for being gone so long. I hope you all have been good! I stopped counting calories for two weeks. I ate well, just didn't count the cals cause I didn't have a comp. I hope I didn't gain my 20 lbs back, though it is entirely possible that fear is completely irrational. (yes it is.)

So I am back on the wagon with the counting cals and working out. I did my elliptical for a hard 30 minutes today. How did you all do?

Wow, you guys have been having a lot of health problems. I'm sorry to hear that!

Wyogirl - you're brave for getting over that virus I'm sure you'll be back on track in no time.

I'd be excited to try the couch to 5k. I'm actually going out in a few minutes for a jog, and I'll definitely try it. I think it you do the 100 mile walk thing, the elliptical will count towards that. I signed up for the june challenge, to do 1250 minutes of physical activity. That should be fun! I also joined a rowing club, which is good...

Emily - glad to hear that you're back into exercising. I'm sure the break didn't hurt.

Hope you're all doing well :).

Well I do believe I may finally be feeling better.  I still can't get my rings on and my neck and wrists are still really sore but I think I may be  slowly getting over this.  Last night I felt a lot better and went for a walk.  I did not push like I normally do.  I almost did my shred dvd because I felt good but I decided not to push it too hard yet-I don't want to relapse or anything.

I have to take the boys to their baseball game tonight at 5 so maybe after we will go walking again if its not storming or I will attempt the shred see how I feel.  I am excited to get exercising again (in my head) but my body might not quite be where my head is.  I will start counting calories again today and see how it goes!

So explain to me this 100 mile walk thing or the 1250 minutes-I'd be interested.

Have a good day everyone!!!!!!

wyogirl - when you're sick, your body needs all the nutrients you can get! Don't feel bad about not counting during that!

My workout program has been slowly getting back to normal. And I've been considering getting a tattoo. Nothing else new!

Hi team,

Well I just got off my elliptical, 30 minutes of awesome. I wish it were getting easier. I know it is but I always feel so worn out after. Maybe I will get to the point where I feel refreshed after. My internet will be gone June 11 I don't know if I told you all that, so I will be away for three weeks.

I am half way quit smoking. I am down to two packs a week instead of five. I can go like 4 days without a smoke, then I quit and buy two packs, smoke them, feel like poo and quit again. I just need to make it to that week mark. Everytime I get half way I start thinking that I really like smoking. Bah, well its like getting healthy eating habits, it takes practice.

Hope you all are doing great. I know I am <3

Good to hear the exercise is treating you well, and that you're quitting smoking. It'll eventually work out. It does take practice.

Novileigh - a tattoo? They're addicting you know. (I don't know myself, but friends have told me...). What are you thinking of getting?

I've been doing a lot of working out. I went for a jog outside the other day, which was good. I'm also loving the rowing. It's such a fun sport. The mosquitos are a real pain though.

My birthday is coming up on Wednesday. I'll be 21! This is less significant in Canada, because I've been of legal drinking age since my nineteenth birthday. Nonetheless, I'm thrilled to be older, I suppose. I'm getting up there now...

Hope you're all doing well :).
