seeking advice to decrease BMI

Quote  |  Reply

I'm 26/ 5'6/135lbs my BMI currently sits @ 22. I'm currently trying to find an exercise and diet routine 5 days a week that will help to decrease my BMI. Is this possible?

Your bmi is just a ratio of your height and weight. Lose weight and your bmi will go down. 22 is in the middle of the healthy range though so you really don't need to.

And it's not a percent, btw. Just 22.

Congratulations on having a 22 BMI  !  Sounds great to me.

Hadelia, hi...this is Chiara...i suggest you to give a read to the burning fat bible... even if the name give the impression of a commercial main stream book for dummies is really complete and healthy...

This lady gives you a complete alimentation plan dividing in 4 to 5 small meals a day and the workout plan starting with 6 days a week (300 minutes) for the first month and then down to 5 days for the second month and 4 days for the third month.

Practically she suggests to increase the muscles in your body (in order to burn more calories and increase metabolism) by using weight machines or free body exercises followed by cardio activity on 3 days of the training and to strength the core of your body before starting the HIIT routine on the other 3 days (2nd, 4th, 6th).

Even if it is hardcore (except for gym there's a lot of time to be spent on shopping, cooking and eating healthy) i've been following the plan for 6 weeks now and have to admit that u will be never starving and eating delicious food (she offers nice recipes). My BMI went from 24.6 to 20.5.

If the training is too hard, focus everything is 3 days, e.g muscles building and HIIT (really efficient!! http://www.intervaltraining.net/hiit.html) but pay attention on what u eat...each meal shall be well balanced between carbohydrates (whole wheat bread/pasta/crackers, lentils, brown rice) proteins (meat, milk) and fat (avocado, olive oil, nuts) in a proportion of 40%-30%-30% or 30%-40%-30%. ah, but of course try to avoid juices, cola, candies, sugar and booze for this period.

Let me know if u r trying...it worths the effort..i can almost see my sexy abs!!

A normal, healthy BMI is anything between 20 and 25 so being at 22 makes you right in the middle of that range.  You could reduce your BMI by reducing your weight but it doesn't sound like you need to.

If you improve the quality of your diet, choose better, more nourishing foods and find a selection of physical activities that you enjoy you'll maintain a healthy weight, have a toned body and be in excellent health.
