i love that movie, i cant agree enough with it, we are truly a fast food nation.
im from england, and wow i wached it and some of the things in it =0 wow supersize nation or what
I thought it was definitely a wake-up call to America, although I found his methodology questionable.
ANYONE who stops exercising and eats an exorborant amount of calories will gain weight, especially in the form of body fat! So that wasn't a very good indicator, IMHO. Nor did he HAVE to eat burgers all the time after he had sampled every menu item. He CHOSE to.
Apart from that, his nutritional reports were frightening. Who knew you could see such negative results so quickly? And the artwork shown in the movie was cool. Jaded but cool.

Loved it! Amazing what happens to the mind and body when you fill it with deep fried food. Shocking really. I think the comparisons with addiction are quite intriguing.
he was getting over 5000 cals a day and like 5 times the amount of sugar explain that one
Seen mclible?

As I said in this thread:
I saw SuperSize me.
To be honest, (snip) it IS sensationalist. It is incredibly sensationalist and was put out there to make you all hate McDonald's.
BUT... simply because it's sensationalist, doesn't mean it's wrong, or that the point shouldn't be heard. McDonald's is not good for you. It will take a lot of effort on their part for it to become anything less than a nutritional nightmare, to be eaten at SPARINGLY, if at all. Certainly not every day like many Americans do (and I was one of those Americans)
I found that 'documentary' to be extremely upsetting and seriously gross, to be unscientific in pretty much every regard, to be sensationalist to a HUGE degree, but to have an impact on an industry that I DO Believe is partly responsible for the growing obesity problem.
And if you're hearing very mixed reviews from me, than that's all I have. It wasn't a great documentary, (snip) backed by fact, irrefutable. As a documentary, it was garbage. It was, however, a well-marketed slap in the face for an industry that needs one and possibly the right movie at one of the right times.

it made me hungry, but i loved it and it was ace. As are all of the dood's documentaries :)
Although this movie did make me think alot more about what I was doing to myself, I like hkellick think it was incredibly sensationalist. When the doctor told him he needed to stop and did not it made me angry, why because unlike him i am a junk food junkie and stopping was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life....he could of just let it go...but then thats not "Good TV"!
If you really want inspiration watch "The Half ton man" that one made me cry and because of that documentary I have begun to do something about myself and my "bad" habits.

I couldn't eat at McDonald's for a few weeks because I kept picturing the orange pile of puke. But after that the double cheeseburger and I rekindled our love for each other. In moderation of course.
I always knew fast food was bad for you. Who ever thought they were healthy eating it? Well, maybe my parents and grandparents did, since they took me there when I was little. It is a very sensationalist movie, but if America needed a wake up call to realize that eating McDonald's every day for every meal was bad for it, then it got one. Although, to me, this "documentary" didn't prove anything I didn't already know (maybe it showed it in more detail--like EXACTLY what kind of bad stuff would happen to you).
It's exactly what would happen if you ate the biggest possible meal at every opportunity. It's eye-opening, but not all that realistic. Still, it's interesting to watch him go through it. If it gives people a wake-up call, so much the better.
For those who think it's sensationalist.... are any of you from the South? Because I am, and there really ARE people who eat like that... every day... some of them are related to me....
I think this movie should be part of the Texas educational system. They should show it the year before they show the sex ed tapes. Which is fourth grade now, if it hasn't been moved up again since I was in grade school.
I'm only partly being ironic and not exaggerating at all, which is the sad part.

I think it was a wake-up call to people who eat like that and live very sedentary lifestyles.
While I like my taco runs or breakfast from McD's a few times a year...I don't call that killing myself slowly. We all strive to be healthier individuals, and make better food choices.
This documentary was not sensationalist at all. You want to see sensationalism...watch a Michael Moore film. :)

I actually thought the most shocking/disturbing part was about the food in school systems. I think that is a bigger problem than McDonalds...
The rest was disgusting too, and brought up important issues, it was just a little over dramatic and unrealistic for most of the people in America - sadly, I'm sure there are some people that eat close to that diet.

I couldn't agree more. I thought that the school systems were truly disgusting. I mean a 13 yr old ate nothing but a sugary soda and french fries for lunch?
However, I can remember when some of the popular girls in my class did the exact same while I was eating a yummy turkey sandwich or salad. :)

I saw that film and cut McDonald, KFC, Burger King and most other fast food joints out of my diet.
I was never a big consumer of their stuff but that film made me sick. i still eat Pizza Hut, and burgers from Pubs and restaurants.

i do and will forever stay away from fast food things they all = CRAP GOING INTO YOUR BODY.
no matter what anybody can say all a load of junk fast food = DEATH FOR ME.

I liked the film. I understand why they choose Mc Donalds....Mc dicks is huge, everywhere. I dont think all the other chains have such a global impact. It was very sensationalist but i think anything that makes you think twice is good. The food in the school system was horrible, and sad.
I think the film did exactly what it set out to do. It was meant to be shocking and gross. It turned my stomach.
Admittedly, there was a nutritionist that ate McD's for a month and LOST weight, but how many of us choose the salads and fruit?
I once calculated, for my husband, his caloric intake from his Sonic lunch. 1,775 calories just at lunch. This didn't count his enormous breakfast taco, another 1,000 calories. He was doing this about once a week.
Some times we all need a wake up call. That was the point of Supersize Me in my opinion.

i was watching the rachael ray show and they had a british guest journalist who did the exact opposite of this. she did SuperSlim me. she made a documentary featuring models asking them what they did to stay thin and how the pressure of the industry they are in affected them. she was trying to figure out as well why so many girls were obsessed with fitting in to a size 0 and that became her mission. she never made it because doctors made her stop but it was interesting.
