Can anyone recommend a good quality self-help book for dealing with anorexic tendencies? If possible one that is not exclusively aimed at teenagers, and if possible, one which is available in the UK... Many thanks for any suggestion!
I am in the US but there is an online store that has many ed recovery etc books. I would think you could order them where you are. It is gurze.com.
Thanks, that's very kind. I had a look but there are so many out there... I was wondering if one or two in particular stood out as being particularly helpful.
I read "Overcoming Anorexia" by Christopher Freeman (I'm in the UK too) and found most of it useful. It covers a range of things eg. the dangers of anreoxia, causes/possible triggers and it explains how cognitive behaviour therapy can help (and it goes into CBT methods you can use to change your thought patterns around food/eating/weight)
Its no replacement for a treatment program or an actual therapist but it definitely helped me a bit. Hope this helps :)
I know that this post wasn't meant for me, but thanks for the input, good site posted, and grapefruit, I will be looking into that book you recommended. Thanks again.
-eating in the light of the moon by anita johnston (realllly good)
-life without ed by jenni schaefer
-intuitive eating by evelyn tribole and elyse resch is good too, but only if you're working on maintaining.
Thanks, that's great, exactly what I was looking for!
All the best!

Life without ed was ok I read that
The anorexia recovery workbook this is more self help tools and like a workbook to help look at feelings and counteract negative thoughts. Like CBT therapy
Life after and eating disorder
Yes, the self-help CBT approach is the kind of thing I was thinking of. The first two books suggested by tweety are on Limited Preview on Google Books so I will look at them, but the Freeman book (which is not on limited preview) definitely sounds interesting. Hopefully, Waterstones or Borders will have it and I can check it out while having coffee!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
