September, 2008 - we now have a group!  It's called 60s 70s and Higher!  There are also age specific groups for all ages.  Please stop in an join, and please do participate.

Time for all of us older members to get to know each other.  All the youngsters have made themselves known so now it's our turn.

I was 65 in April, 2007, and happily retired.

How about you?

At 71, I may be the oldest one here (yikes!).

At 5'6", 178 lbs, my goal is to lose 28 pounds, then go from there.

No, someone posted at the beginning of this thread who was 81 or 85, can't remember after reading so many, maybe both and two people.

That's about where I started 2 years ago and now trying to lose the last 10# to get to 128.

Good luck.

Hi, I am 56 and just strated last Saturday.  I have been a long time dieter, Joined WW the first time when I was 14.  It seems like I lose weight just to put more back on.   This site looks like it will work, I hav never been very good at counting calories, but this works so easy and I like that is shows all the other info about what I am eating.

I have a lot to lose, so I have decided to go for smaller goals other wise I will be overwheled at the thought of having to lose over 200 lbs.

I am happy to find this group, it seemed like most the folks I checked out were really young and I was not sure if I would fit in.

It is nice to meet all of you.

Nancerella -- You'll fit in just fine with this bunch.  We're glad to have you aboard!  Compared to some of us (I'm 74!) you're just a young thing.  I think you're very wise to set small goals -- achieving them will give you a good boost toward the next one.  Good luck...and happy calorie counting!

Bobbie, Thanks for the nice welcome.  I was a little concerned at first, because most of the posts I was reading was very young girls, So I was very happy when I found this group.

I can't beleve how easy this has been so far.  Right now the weight is melting off, but that is typical for me when I first start any diet. I am sure that will not last too long.

Have a great day.

Nan

Hi Nan!

I was on a diet, various, between 174 and 130 for 2 yrs then went back up to 142 with normal eating. After finding CC and reading posts, I'm no longer on a *diet* but learning to eat healthy for rest of my life.

Although I've been on a plateau for 4 months, I think progress is slowly coming with Body Fat% decreasing and muscle gain. BTW, I'm 70. Tongue out

Ok.... I have been sitting on this stool thinking about getting up and using my dumbells.  Back when I was at fly weight I used to use them regularly.  I think I may take another stab at it today.

My lower limbs are not real happy these days.  I had round two(it will be two weeks ago Thursday) of prolotherapy on my knees (the ligaments surrounding the knees are injected with a dextrose/lidocane solution to cause an inflammatory response in the ligaments thereby making them thicken and shorten-mine were very loose-and become stronger------- this hurt like a uhhhhh..... son of a gun to put it mildly).  Anyway, when I woke up the next day, my left quadriceps muscle began spasming whenever I had to use the muscle.  The spasms are not as severe, but they are still there, and I hyperextended the right leg as well... Arrgggghhh!  I have missed over a week of water aerobics now.

Ok... I just finished doing a seated whole body workout.  It took twenty minutes.  I finally did it.  I'm pleased.

Hi! I'm 52. I'm Italian, I live in central Rome and work as a librarian. Married for almost 24 years (anniversary next June), one daughter of 21 who's studying architecture here at Rome university. I have a furry baby, too, my sweet Micio, a black cat.

I have a small country house on the hills near Rome, where I spend my weekends with my husband; friends often come there and we have nice parties.

I like cooking and trying new recipes. Now I've become a little overweight, and this is not good, for my health (I have some back problems, my doctor says I must lose pounds) and for my mood.

I have a lot of interests: reading, writing, painting. At present I'm studying Chinese language and I find it very amusing and challenging.

Good Morning to all.  I have been walking and being good when it comes to my food choices.  May is a couple weeks away and I'm keeping to my goal to lose the 75 lbs. I said I would before labor day.  I started this program in 1/2007 I need 20 lbs to lose to reach my goal.

A few days late but good morning to you too, Loven, and the rest of y'all. Glad walking is successful for you. I walk in the swimming pool [ in water, not on waterWink] where resistance is high and I burn more calories for my cardio exercise after I do muscle strengthening.

Yesterday we had a posture class at the gym where everyone got assessed for their faults and now I have to work even harder!Tongue out But hopefully it will help get off this weight plateau.

Have a good day and week

Hi I am (sigh) in the over 50 category, so I might as well admit it..still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up..hee hee..anyway I am 57 ..where has the time gone? oh well, hopefully there's more left! I am married, 6 years now (this time, and the only one that was my idea)..have a great husband except he is as skinny as a rail and can eat anything he wants to and not gain, in fact, wishes he could..I on the other hand was trying to gain myself only two years ago (health stuff) and now and fighting to get off 25-30 lbs..almost wish I was heavier so it would come off easier..at least it did several years ago when I tipped the scales at almost 200 then went back to 120 something for years and now am (blush) 155 and only 5.3" (that looks like five point three inches, my that IS short!..I think you all know what it means)

Am off work at present with carpal tunnel syndrome (or something like it, not fully diagnosed yet, and not in pain)...don't like working for others. Love to read, exercise, learn ..just got my BA in CommunityStudies in 2001 at 50..that's it for now..anyone want to be my friend?

This is actually my daughters computer name -- (my computer name is Loow) she set it up for me when I became type one diabetic and hypothyroid --

66 yo male 153 5' 8.5"

Currently I control my diabetes by diet although I will have to return to insulin in the future -- I take levoxyl for the low thyroid

I need to set up an increased exercise program - the warmer months may help in that matter

Hi ya Dollface!

I'm 52 and teetering between 148-150 lbs.  I also am 5'3" so I'm starting to look a little chubby.  I just finished a week of a diet called the cabbage soup diet.  You can google it for the diet if you're interested.  It claims that you can lose 10 lbs. in one week on this diet.  Unfortunately, I don't have a scale, but I'm sure I've lost at least 10 lbs by the way my jeans are fitting...and my husband even noticed!  Laughing  All the food on this diet is actually good for you and the cabbage soup really tastes pretty good.  It's just kinda strict on what you eat each day.  But if you can stick to it, it works!

Now that I've gotten a jump start on the 10 lbs, I'm going to be extra careful with what I eat.  I also workout at Curves 4 times a week.  I also want to start walking with my dogs on a daily basis.  It'll do all of us some good!  I really started packing on the weight when I tore something in my knee and had knee surgery last year.  Being unable to be active and sitting around eating sure packed on the poundage...and it's a rough road back!  But I'm trying to get down to about 120 lbs.  I think that's do-able!

I'm in Southern California.  Married, no children, two lovable dogs.  Don't have a job, but have a home-based internet business.  I'd love to be your friend.

Hi Maryter. I've been on the list since November 07 and am now trying to maintain, not so easy. Must be hard to watch your weight while cooking Italian food. My husband and I are finally taking a long awaited trip to Italy next month. I will probably need to go back to logging calories after that trip!!

That's true! Too many temptations... Wink

But we have such a variety in foods, it's just a matter of choosing the right things - especially vegetables and, for me, fish. Of course, huge pasta dishes can seriously damage your efforts in watching your weight. I love pasta so much... but I've learned to eat small portions, and I always choose vegetable sauces. Less calories and low fat.

And you'll surely walk a lot when visiting Rome, Florence, Venice or some other beautiful town, so you can reward yourself with an ice cream from time to time Laughing

Hi back at ya slybond..sorry it took me so long to reply but I have been having rather a pesky time with this carpal tunnel thingy that has me off work at the moment..could be forever moments for all I care about my last job..not into working for others..want to start my own listening actively/communication biz..love to hear about your internet business..

did google the cabbage soup diet..it looks pretty intense for those first few days but like you said, just to get that kick start..wikipedia says its all water..well we KNOW that..it is just so good to get a jump on things..working out steady  for three weeks with only a firmer chubbiness to show for it..maybe it will all come off at once (no eh?)

usually my carpal tunnel doens't prevent me from doing anything..don't know why its acting up now..drat..would like to blather on more but a little numb in the wrist right now..

oh..me married with a wonderful kitty named Petite (you guessed it..cause she is real little)...would love to have a dog too but we live in an apartment and it would not be fair unless it was a small dog..this neighbourhood is full of Shiatzus (sp?) and other small cute breeds..Petite is a little dubious about the dog idea anyway..your dogs look amazing..I always think animals keep us so grounded..one friend years ago when asked what she would do if only had six months to live said 'spend more time with T'ai and Chi (her dogs)'..I always like that as an attitude.

please accept apology for tardiness..would love to be your friend too!

cheers (or 'keep yur stick on the ice' )

Hi All

Am 52 and would love to join all of you.

Battling my back side off with loosing weightFrown but am positive about cc.

Hello Everyone!

I had another B-day Sunday and I am 56 years old!

Weight is one of those things that I know what I need to do and what to stop doing.  I need to lose at least 70 pounds. I walk an hour everyday that the weather permits. I also work part time at a grocery store stocking canned goods. I only work two days a week and I am so sore by the end of day that it is very hard to move.

I have made changes in the way I eat but I find myself slideing some days.

I am so glad to find this thread!

Have a Good Day!

I"m not a senior per say. I'm 57 and look it. Hard life! Just kidding! My kids used to say "Mommy why do you have gray hair and wrinkles" and to this day I say they are not gray hairs and wrinkles. They are EXPERIENCE!!

I joined this site about a month ago and I love it. I found it after I quit smoking and gained an unhealthy 60 lbs. I have C.O.P.D. and I am on oxygen so I don't get much excerise. Now that the weather is finally nice I will be able to get out. Before I was afraid becasue every step I took was and effort. But now I'm good to go. Talk with you all soon. Nice seeing your stories.

Hi and glad to make your acquaintance.

I thought anything over 50 was officially *senior*, at least it is for senior discounts in my area. Cool

I quit smoking after 45 years of it but before it did lasting damage to me fortunately and am able to exercise so I empathize with you. Good luck.

Life is NUTS for me and I find myself trying to keep focused.

My MIL had a massive stroke last week and if that isn't enough my hubby's place of employment is closing its doors. GEEEEEEE!

I have been praying alot and trying to stay out of the way. I am so worried about my FIL and my husband.

Okay, You guys how do you all cope with the ups and downs of life? How do you cope with death and when so one gets to the point of not being able to care for themselves?

I know that death is a part of life but I crumble every time close to me dies!   I refuse to take medication for my depression. Lately I am in and out of it!

Thanks for reading this and any input would be appreciated!

God Bless you all!Cry
