September, 2008 - we now have a group!  It's called 60s 70s and Higher!  There are also age specific groups for all ages.  Please stop in an join, and please do participate.

Time for all of us older members to get to know each other.  All the youngsters have made themselves known so now it's our turn.

I was 65 in April, 2007, and happily retired.

How about you?

Lynn, I know you're not looking for this kind of encouragement but remember these wise words from Confucius,

?It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.?
Lynn, you might not be eating enough.  I know that's hard to believe, but if you don't eat enough your body will just hold on to the fat.
Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I finally saw a .5 lb decrease today after 2 solid weeks.

I feel I am eating enough because I'm not hungry and I'm eating a lot of fruits and veggies.  I DO allow myself a little bit of chocolate every day. Believe me, I count those calories too!! My body does hold fat (as can be seen by my cellulite!)
Hi  I am new to CC and over 50. I have been a WW person for manny years and just got tired of counting points . So I am giving this a try. My biggest problem is the weekend. It seem like all my effort goes out the window on the Weekends Help.
Hi lindahwoff, Check out these Weekend Tips.  Hope it helps.  :)

Thank you song child I will. I need all the help I can get.
Hi everyone ,Still working on losing this weight. I discovered that I am maintaining at the wrong weight. I think I am reducing cal. but when I track on what I eat threw the weekend I bring it back up  just to keep me where I am at. so I have not hit the weekend yet since my last posting , it is getting close. If I am figureing my cals correctly I have been right around 1780 cal a day. I also used one of the tools and if I want to be 150 pound by my birthday in Nov.I have to cut back to 1400 cals a day. That seem like a big drop from what I am doing now. little scared.  any thoughts on this on how I can take off 380 cal a day and not be hungry?

Linda
Hi everyone,

I am delighted to have found this senior cornor.  I would love to have you all for friends.  Is it okay if I add you to my friend list?  I have come part way on my journey to lose down to 150.  I am following about 1250 calories per day and putting in 2 miles on the treadmill.  It is working so far, but I know it will be necessary to get some variety in my program so I don't get bored with it.  When our winter weather improves I will get outdoors more.

Do any of you have job hunting hints for me?  I really want to get a 2nd part-time job with flexible hours so I can keep the job I already have.  Thanks for your input.
Just checked back on this page after a month or so.  I see that several of you are discussing who's the eldest among you.  I hate to burst your bubble, but I'm 73...and still going strong.  Poangel4 -- I'd be glad to have you as my friend!
poangle14, thanks for friending me.  Please visit my journal where I post every day.  If you start a journal of your own, I'll visit you too.

I had a conversation last week with the nurse who works for my insurance company.  She calls me every month under a program to manage chronic diseases.  We talked at length about how I went on maintenance for the holidays and haven't been able to get completely back on track.  I've weighed the same since December 12.  She was very surprised that I was able to get on CC and look up all my stats - my BMI, maintenance calories etc.  We reviewed some of my food logs and she says I've put myself into starvation mode (the very thing I keep warning people about!) by eating too little.  We agreed that I'd stay at 1700 to 1800 calories for another month to 6 weeks, then begin to cut it by 100 calories a week until I notice some weight loss.  She says I might gain a few pounds doing this, but it's really great to have professional advice about this.

I need to catch up on all your posts - I haven't been very good about participating on this thread!
Hi all, I've only posted once before on this thread since I'll be 50 on March19, I've been on C.C. for alittle while but only  have been serious since Jan. Have done okay. Still working on it. would like to lose about 40 lbs. atleast. I also could use some encougement and prayer since my husband of 31 years told me last week he wants a divorce . SURPRISE! He don't want to do this any more. He's moving out very soon. I'm still in shock. I haven't talked to my adult children yet. Will try this week. I just have gotten out of shape and haven't been well. He goes bowling and golfing all the time and I never said anything. I still work at a school, and I 've had to keep up with my mother and help her. We just down sized our house and property so we could travel and stuff. Well you all get the drift but I'm still trying to take care of myself and take my vitimins and exercise which is amazing since I feel like I'm losing it. I weigh in tomorrow and since I haven't been able to eat for days maybe that'll be a plus. will check in with you all . Hope everyone has a healthy week.
Dear Gypsierose,

Do you need another friend?  I'll be one for you and add you to mine.  You are in a difficult place and I'll keep you in my thoughts.  That situation can really impact your life in a big way---take the wind out of your sails.  Hope you find some peace and good health on your journey.
WHERE IS EVERYONE I want to join the group but no replys since JAN  come on lets keep it up!
sorry pushed wrong button and totally did not see Feb.entries.I am 55 an from Long Island ,New york and feelso much younger on WW and lost 15 going foranother at least 15.Been so bored I take care of elderly and do Hospice cases and both of my cases in home now do private and Agency but private more money.Keeping busy with boards ,hone and quilting but still bored.
Geezzz I didn't realize how much slower my metabolism is just because of my age (55)....On days I don't workout, I only burn off 1662 cals....Kind of hard to lose 1 lb a week at that rate and have to consume a minimun of 1200 cals....Good thing I don't take many days off from the gym....Tuesday is my no go day....On gym days I burn about 2200...Looks like I'll have to keep working out even if I ever get to maintenance...Looks like this is gonna take alot longer than I thought....Glad I went for a good walk with my dog after work...was just enough to boost me to a 500 calorie deficit for the day and still maintain the 1200 minimum....LOL doesnt seem fair!  How is everybody else doing?  I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's wgh in....

Can I join even if I'm not quite 50 yet? I've not been posting here long, but a couple of times I have been reading responses and found a post that really made sense to me, and when I followed up on it - I always find the poster in this group.
Of course you can!  You can be a junior member!

Oh, thank you. Just for the record, you were one of the ones who drew me to this group.
welcome f1gment....the more the merrier!

Sidenote:  my premonition of a disasterous wgh in today came true...I was up .50 even though my calorie intake vs. my expenditure showed that I should have lost 1.5!  Go figure!

Hope everyone else did well!
56 here, and new.  Could someone sort of mentor me for a few weeks?

The other forums that I read were great, but the women were younger.  It was great to see this one listed!
