The Senior Corner - Are You Over 50?
September, 2008 - we now have a group! It's called 60s 70s and Higher! There are also age specific groups for all ages. Please stop in an join, and please do participate.
Time for all of us older members to get to know each other. All the youngsters have made themselves known so now it's our turn.
I was 65 in April, 2007, and happily retired.
How about you?
Let's start this month of with a new attitude for weight loss. I have been at this diligently since 1/22 and have only lost 1.5 lbs with no more than 1400 calories a day, even on weekends! Talk about metabolism slowing down, I'm not 50 yet! (Sept) I exercise at the gym 3-4 x week but to no avail. I'm not giving up now just out of anger !
I love reading all your emails and realize there are some wonderful committed women out there (and men too!).
Hi lovely people! I'm 53 and have been overweight my whole life - was 250 when I was 10, 291 is my starting weight here.
I'm very young at heart...love rock & roll - old & new. Hubby is 58 but acts like he's a teenager yet...lol...hopefully we'll stay young at heart.
I've been noticing the different groups being posted and wondered if there was an "over 50" group, so thank you for starting this! I could also belong to "over 200", "addicted to sweets", "exercising sucks", "grandparents r us", "my dog rules the roost"...I digress...lol.
Nice to have a great place like CC to help me through this life change.
Dona :-)
I have a question about the journal feature. I'd like to use it to keep track of what I am doing, mainly as information for myself. Can it be totally private or open to only select friends?
Linda
Thank you for being my friend. I've added you to my list also. I will post more next week as we plan to go away for the weekend, weather permitting. Remember, one bite is too much and a thousand is never enough. Good day.
I just joined CC this morning, feeling desperate right about now about my weight, have been overweight most of my adult life, fortunate in the fact that my weight is evenly distributed, and no one believes that I weigh as much as I do; but I swear all my weight is in my upper arms, well 3/4 of it :-). I don't think I've swore a sleevless top since I was in my teens.
I'm 63 yrs young (64 on April 17), still working full time, mother of 4 grown sons, grandmother of 11 ranging in ages 23 - 2-1/2 yrs. I had my sons very young in life and feel like I grew up with them.
It is great to find that there others in my age bracket that feeling the same things I am, I swear I could have written part of each of your stories.
Why as human beings do we think we are the only ones going through something that no one else will understand, only to find out that we are not alone, and that others do understand that they've been there also.
Right now my exercising is light to moderate, I walk as much as I can about 10 minutes in the morning, and 10 minutes in the evening. I've always been a fairly healthy eater, don't like red meat very much, prefer fish, fruits, vegetables but there are times when I over indulge to say the least.
I am so happy I found CC and others my age that are going through the same thing, and can understand where I am coming from.
Have a good Sunday everyone.
Anyway, I'm not here to solve the problems of the world...All I can do is lend support and encouragement to those who also trudge this road of a healthy lifestyle....
Oh my goodness gypsierose! I bet you burned off a few calories in your panic to find your mother! Sorry you had to go through that experience but at least maybe it got your metabolism moving for awhile....(I'm really trying to find the good in every experience!)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks....I'm in the midst of trying to vacuumn up a week's worth of my German Shedder Dog!
Today though, I'm taking a day off...sortof :). My husband is working today, so we're going in to have lunch with him. After that, I have a little necessary shopping to do. I'd rather just enjoy the sunshine, but it can't be helped. I have a roast out for dinner tonight and my son has a rousing game of Pokemon Monopoly planned for the evenings's entertainment ;)
You are right jem599 it is very self centred to think that we are so unique that we are the only one's experiencing a certain feeling, and we are so unique. As individuals we are unique, but we are not unique in some of the feelings we experience.
I am so sorry to hear about your Mother Gypsierose, I lost my Mom 4-1/2 years ago and I miss her terribly, but noticed during the the few years of her life that our roles become reversed, it was like I was the parent and she the child, however, my brother felt it much more than I did as he lived with her, and had to deal with her and I have a lost respect for him for doing this.
I really like CC, keeping track of everything you put in your mouth, and being able to share what you are going through with others. Have a great day everyone and welcome to those of us who are new to this.
I'm also getting ready to paint my kitchen. We moved in here in Nov. and were suppost to remodel the kitchen but since soon to be x moved out I have to find another way to fix the kitchen.Going to paint the cabinets to start and change knobs. It's a start and have to paint walls and will have to have someone else do the floor.
Have to get ready for work . Springbreak is 1st week of April but no breaks/holidays in March. I get my 1st allergy shot today. Have a healthy week everyone.
Here's to a GREAT week!!
