September's 100 Mile Walk

Quote  |  Reply

Whew! August was one hot and humid month! Now that September is approaching with the promise of fall in the air ...time for another 100 mile walk!  Other distances are welcome.

Just so you know...

100 miles = 3.33 miles per day

50 miles = 1.67 miles per day

I keep track of my walking through http://www.mapmyrun.com/ , but you can also use a pedometer as well.

Anyone can join, and I'll try to get your goals posted as soon as possible.  I am personally aiming for 100 again this month.

We also have walkers that like to track steps walked instead of mile goals.  If you want to do this just let me know your personal goal and I'll add it to our list.  If you are trying to hit 10,000 steps a day, then I'll put your goal at 300,000 steps for September.

For those of you that like an additional upper body challenge, consider adding in some push-ups or planks.  Personally, I'm aiming for 150 floor push-ups (10 every other day) this month.  Here are some other options for different difficulty levels:

Option 1: modified push-ups (either incline or wall).  see description here

Option 2: planks (pick a time goal.  15 min = 60 second planks every other day).  see description here

Option 3: regular push-up (good old floor push-ups).  see description here

Option 4:  more challenging push-up variation of your choosing (like susiecue's clap push-ups from last month).  see some ideas here

Post your mileage/steps whenever you like, and we'll support and motivate each other to keep it up! Good luck everyone!

WHOO HOO!!!

I was refreshing like mad looking for this post!

Ok My goals for this month is

1. 100 miles again

2. 100 regular push ups (option 3)

and

3. 15000 calories burned during my 100 miles (will supply meter)

once again LETS DO THIS!!!!!

EDIT:

Look! NEW METERS!!!

I will try for 100 miles again.

I tried out a clap-push-up on the floor this evening and I can kind of sort of almost do them so I'm going to aim to do 60 this month (I think the likelihood of me being able to do sets of more than two is very very slim).  I will also continue with the clap-push-ups against the exercise bench to help get myself in better shape to do the floor ones.

I am ready to go another 100 miles and I will try the push-up challenge too. 100 miles and 100 push-ups in the month of September.

I'm going for 100 miles this month!  As long as I don't fall behind in the first half of the month I'm sure I'll make it.  100 push ups sounds good, too.

Today is only my 6th day with my pedometer and I've not done a push-up since the 1960s but I'll go for

250k steps + 100 'wall-ups' (option 1)

For me, 250k steps = 192km (125 miles), but I'm keeping separate count of my 'aerobic steps' (when out 'walking' - i.e. for several km and at least 30 mins) and other 'ordinary' steps (which may include very brief periods of 'walking' in addition to my ordinary walking), and I don't yet want to set a target for that, hence the step figure.

* Whew!!! I'm late getting here!!! * Laughing

* Waves to all the Walkers!!!! * Cool

Due to my foot issue, and my too-easy heart rate level, I'm going to set 300,000 steps as my Goal for September, and maybe beat it! I'll be away a week beginning the 20th, too, for a CampMeeting in Knoxville, Tennessee, so I'll be pressed while away from Home to get my walking in!

To add to my walking Challenge, I'm going to use my Nordic Skier more consistently, with it's easy-on-the-feet, non-impact skiing motion, and upper body work-out benefits. It will be better for my need to raise my Heart Rate-- and, hence, my calorie burn! I need to decide on what amount to use the Nordic for a Goal this month-- it ain't easy, and I can't while in Tennessee-- so I'll post it after I've thought a bit. Laughing

I ain't Tough enough to do the push-ups, etc! Wink

Once I reach 50 lbs. gone, though, I'll be returning to my weight lifting... With 34.7 gone, I'll only need 15.3 more to be there! Hopefully the higher-effort exercise this month will get me much closer by October! Laughing

Let's have a GREAT month of Walking, and LOTS of FUN!!!!!!!!! Cool

Edit-- Cool Ticker, Epiphany323!!! My profile Tickers are woefully outta' date! Wink

I like this idea. Good motivation. Can we use running miles too? If so I'll shoot for 100. Coming back from shin splints... And I'd like to supplement regular push-ups, but 1500 at 100 every other day.

Hi everybody!

foiegras you picked the same challenge as me lol I count all my inside steps, then add in extra outside walking steps too. My pedometer lives on my hip!

I'm in for 250K steps again, and 100 Option 1's

So thats an average of 8334 per day. I think thats doable.

good luck!

Laughing

I only count my exercise running/walking.  I'm going for

  • 150 miles
  • Option 1 Coffee table push ups ( 700 for the month.)
  • Option 2  (15 min)
  • Option 5 ( triceps dips 500 for the month)
  • Option 6 ( squats 500 month)

My work out plan Is

  1. Run 5 days a week  5-6 miles before the kids get up
  2. At nap time  Do a ondamand fitTV video or Jillian Michael's on the Wii
  3. Nightly 2.5-3 mile walk with Sis-in-law. ( after kids are in bed)

09/01= 2 miles

98 miles to go!

I forgot to mention... mama lu and miss piggy also walked 100 miles last month too! Way to go girls!

hi everybody! I walk every single day. I walk 6km/4miles everyday. Since there are 30 days in September... and I walk 4miles everyday, I'd like to vow walking atleast 120kms this month. Since starting my dieting and walking in May, I have lost 62lbs!

Please put me down for 125 miles for Sept! Gotta give me a push to improve...

congratulations to EVERYONE!!!!!!! The Aug post's were fun to read Cool

~hth

Whooooooooooo Hooooooooooooo, Acid Rain23!!! That's a lot of weight!!!! SurprisedLaughing

I've worked to Achieve 35.1 in about that time! Laughing

* Waves a 'Very Happy Hello!' to the New Group of Mighty Walkers!!!! * Cool

It's really Great to see more Step Counters! Laughing

Congrats to Mama Lu and Miss Piggy, too... Wink

Glad you're already charging the Starting Gates, Roxiegirl42!!! Cool

Hey!!! August Folks-- Asuwest, and The Oarsman with Miss Bea, came in on the August Thread, if you missed seeing them, yet... The Oarsman and Miss Bea, aka Mrs. Oarsman, were moving, and Asuwest came in as a  Champion-plus for August!!!! Cool

We REALLY DID have a LOT of Success in that Terribly Hot/Humid Month!!! Cool

Looks like we'll keep Eedwards1 really busy this month, too! I think we have some running already, so I'm a'Hopin' it isn't any problem... It's an exercise/mile Challenge to me, basically, since we've added the Valuable upper-body extras, too. Finding an active and Motivating Group has been a real help to me, so I'd like to see all Welcome, if we can join in mile counting-- whether walking or running, or even in the Interval style of exercise for the increased health benefits that it's encouraged for? Smile

Runners who need to switch to walking at times, might find a Mileage-based Challenge to be a help in not pushing themselves too hard, while seeing every mile as the real Success it is-- whether they ran it, or walked, or both-- the miles are the best indicator we have in common... Laughing

If it's Okay with Eedwards--?? Smile

I was just added as a step counter, myself, by asking, "if I could, please...," and I'm very Grateful after this past extra-Tough month, that I was accepted! I've found it a real help to be accountable to a group when excuses, (and real problems),  to skip walking are too handy! Like The Oarsman-- I hate to give up on a Goal-- but having to admit to this Group that I'd given up, would be much harder! Wink

It's really Great to see the August walkers joining in-- it was a FUN Group last month-- I'm really looking forward to a SENSATIONAL SEPTEMBER Together!!!!!!!! Laughing

* Goes to put on Walking/Running shoes-- took running shoes to get enough cushion for my problem feet, lol!-- and start on today's Goal!!!  * Wink

Edited to add...

P.S.-- I'm going to set 300,000 steps and 6 hours per week on the Nordic Skier as my September Goals... that will be Tough, lol! Especially when I'll have to make up one week due to being away from Home! That will represent an hour a day, minus Sunday's, so I'll need to do 26 hours... Okay... For 'Fun(?),' I think I'll just round that up to be a Crazy Goal of 30 Hours Nordic Skiing, and 300,000 Steps!!! SurprisedLaughing

Perhaps that'll soothe my real disappointment in having to reduce my Half-Million Step Goal to 300,000 this month... I really wanted to maintain that Half-Million each month-- I've got 1,500,000 steps now for the last 3 month's effort! Laughing

I will try 100 miles again for September :)

Good to see you back, Ranchobernardo!!! Laughing

WOW!!! WALKERS...!!!!!!!!!! Surprised

Ya oughtta' go see what Ranchobernado just added to the August Thread!!!!!!!!!!! Cool

It's REALLY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing

Hello to all the new and returning walkers!  I'm in my office at school right now, so I just wanted to drop this quick note that I will add everyone's goals to the thread later this evening.  Happy walking/running/skipping...

{{{Laughing!}}} Laughing

SKIPPING...? Wouldn't THAT burn a lot of calories...!!!! Surprised

* Imagines Walkers Jump-Roping down the road... * Wink

I would like to join this...I would like to try for 300,000 steps and also option1 on the upper body but I don't know how many to go for. Let's start with 1000 for the month and go from there.

whoo new month, new goals, newcomers to the group, I love it. Oh yeah for the new month I'm gonna start using my new tickers.

ok

GOAL 1: 100 Miles  ~ 8.5 Miles DONE   ---  91.5 Miles to go

MILES TICKER

GOAL 2: 100 Push-Ups  ~ 11 Push-Ups done --- 89 Push-ups to go (will do 1 push-up for every 100 cals I burn)

GOAL 3: 15000 cals burned walking/running ~ 1100 Cals burned --- 13900 to go

CALORIES TICKER

As long as no hurricanes come through my little country and it doesn't rain too much I think I can reach my goal with a little ease this month cause I'm pushing hard to train for this 10k next month. I really wanted to do 10 miles today but lightning stuck a tree about 10 feet from me so that was enough for me to say "ok that's it".

I hope everybody have a fun month walking/running/skipping/rolling :)
