ok, i have a serious B.M. Question - If you can't talk about it please dont read
Ok, so I started about two weeks ago being SERIOUS about this, not just half ass trying, now I'm now 6 pounds down. I know, 3 pounds a week not the recommended 1 or 2. Anyway, I notice that I'm hungry a lot sooner than I use to be. Read a lot about it being related to the jump started metabolism. My diet ranges from 1100 (I know I dont feel like hearing about how unhealthy it is, I get almost fully balanced diet even at 1100 and I'm quiet satisfied most of the time) and 1500. I tend to stay around 1300, I was wondering if I should eat more when my stomach empties out. It empties a lot quicker which brings me to my BM question. I find that if say, I eat a wrap at 9am, by 3 or 4pm I'll pass it. A lot of times the food I eat isn't fully digested, and can be without effort recognized. Are you supposed to pass food that quickly? And if it's not being completely digested does that mean its not feeding mybody? The number one things I notice it on are.. lettuce, oranges, oatmeal, tomatoes, so on and so forth. Is there a problem? I'm very small, 5 foot nada, and currently weigh 145. I use to have a lot of digestive problems and GERD, sometimes feel like my stomach is too full and not digesting and I get bad indigestion. Can someone give me some advice, or let me know whether this is not good. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Reason: moved to a more appropriate forum
Well, normal digestion takes some time. However, I had Ulcerative Colities (now in remission), now I have "just" IBS and also a lactose intolerance. If I eat anything with milk I'm in the bathroom before I'm even finished eating. I, too, have food some out whole and vitamins with the coloring still on them. I don't know what the fix is, but I have the same thing happen. And, no, I don't think it's normal.
yea im lactose intolerant as well, on top ofmaking me have to go potty itll also make me breakout really really bad. As long as I have no dairy besides my lactaid milk im fine as far as that goes. I dont have any "trigger" foods that make me need to go, well, besides really greasy foods, I just dont break down the things that I eat.
I'd definitely be seeing a doctor. I always look at my BM's as I want to make sure they are the right shape etc etc...I do have a prob in that recently I have been getting too much fibre and seem to be on the loo all of the time...but...I can't ever remember seeing food in my poop. Does anyone else find they need to cut back on fibre???
In my experience you often see food and texture in kids poop (I have 3 under 4), however their digestive tracks are not yet conditioned. The younger they are and the less efficient their digestive system then the more food product you see. The usual suspects are corn, carrot, mushroom, spinach etc etc. Also could be put down to not chewing their food well enough I suppose...just some ideas. But I'd be going to the doctor if I were you :)
- When did this begin?
- What changes have I made to my diet?
LISTEN to your body and that is your guide to what you should do. Best wishes on success and whatever you feel you need to do.
If you don't chew your food thoroughly, it sometimes comes out the other end. That also means that you didn't get all of the calories and nutrition in it. In particular I've noticed nuts and cherry tomatoes.

ps i didnt post this twice i dont know why it posted twice. my list of topics ive started inly has THIS one on it....what's that about?
and for a post on the other locked post, I know it's immediate within 10 hours cause its usually food I didnt eat the day before. Also, I chew very thoroughly cause I realized if I dont my stomach works harder to break it down and I end up with bad bad heartburn.
You did post it twice, once in Weight Loss at 12:35 (locked) and then at 12:37 (moved to H&S forum). You probably used the back button and then ended up reposting.
I've been told that a healthy digestive system will cause you to have a BM in between each meal. Which meal that is I'm not entirely sure on, but it's probably the prior meal or the one before that.
I noticed after rereading your post that you tend to eat between 1100-1500 calories per day. Add another 100 calories of healthy stuff or a small dessert or snack in there to make 1200-1500. Being satisfied on fewer calories is not the issue, getting sufficient calories for your body to function well instead of just function is. That would be 1200 net calories, not 1200 calories plus exercise to burn off more.
Please know that Calorie Count cannot and will not support you eating less than 1200 calories a day. We consider this unhealthy and CC is all about HEALTHY weight loss or weight maintenance
From Mary Hartley, Calorie Count's Director of Nutrition: "By eating only 800 calories, you will not get enough energy, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other components of food. In time, you could become malnourished, which can cause severe health risks such as respiratory infections, kidney failure, blindness, heart attack and even death."
Here is a brief reason why never less than 1200 from the Advice section of Calorie Count Plus, under the Q&A tab:
Why must I eat at least 1,200 calories a day when I want to eat less?
In order to get the daily food servings you need for a balanced diet, it takes about 1200 calories a day. With careful planning, you could have a balanced diet on 1000 calories, but the restrictiveness of a very low calorie level can lead to binging and weight cycling, which will take you further from your weight loss goal. What's more, very low calorie diets can cause excessive muscle breakdown and metabolic adaptations, which can drive down your calorie requirements. In the end, you'll need fewer calories to maintain a higher weight
Your body needs at least 1200 calories per day to survive.
Here is a very rough scientific break down provided by a dietician for a 5' 2", 19 year old female weighing approximately 100 pounds, sitting around all day and doing nothing:
-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)
Sounds worrying and worth call to your GP. Not something anyone on CC is really qualified to give an opinion on.
Hello,
I don't think that it's normal... your food is obviously not being digested, and therefore your body is not getting the nutrients... I didn't read through all the replies, but saw something on IBS, and other digestive disorders. IBS can also be caused by poor diet... I'm not an expert, but after years of being a 'bad' vegetarian - rice andpotatoes, I have acquired IBS...
...definitely something you should see a specialist about...
Nyah...

Not everyone needs 1200 calories per day to survive. That is a false blanket statement and pushed around this site way too much. I am NOT PROMOTING starving - I am all for a HEALTHY lifestyle but let's knock this crap off already. Is is RECOMMENDED FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON to consume in excess of 1200 calories a day. If you only have 1000 calories one day - you will NOT die from it - seriously now! Lap-band patients don't come NEAR 1200 calories and they don't die or lose their livers, kidneys, (other organs you listed) from it. They suplement with protein shakes and vitamins. Also - people with metabolic, thyroid and other issues are often instructed to restrict caloric intake below that 1200 "magic number." Sorry - but all these blanket statements are as bad as telling someone that eating cheesecake for breakfast is healthy. CONSULT YOUR (not an on-line one who has never examined you) PHYSICIAN!!!!
Regarding the ORIGINAL POST - BM changes are common when you change your diet. If you are concerned, call your doctor for assurance.

I have talked to my doctor's and nutritionist, and they all have said at min. 1200 calories a day UNLESS directed to do so by a doctor.

Exactly my point - unless directed by your doctor and MANY MANY people ARE directed by their doctors(s) to restrict their calories below 1200. So, if someone states they are eating less than 1200 - why not FIND OUT before starting the tongue lashings and "reviewing the CC RULES?" I have ALWAYS been told by my doctors too stay around 1000 calories a day and it's suicide to mention it on this site because EVERYONE knows better than my doctors and blood results. SHE WAS ASKING ABOUT HER BOWEL MOVEMENTS.
THANK YOU! I just said 1100 cause well, I didnt feel like saying 1176, which I seriouslu doubt is going to harm me once maybe twice every two or three weeks. My bad for trying to be as honest as I could be. Also, if you read some of the FAQs on here, it says that yes, a person can have a balanced diet at 1000 calories and if im not going to be doing anything but sleeping all day do I really need to eat 1200 cals? Sleeping burns something like 60 calories an hour. I sleep 12 hours, then make lunch, lay down again and watch tv....anyway i appreciate your post, thank you.
I don't think you have a BM problem. I mean.... You have 3 meals a day depend of the size of each meal, and how the waste is going to come out. You may get 2 good BMs perday, or one damn good one. It all depends on how many you get perday. I don't even think this questions is one for the doctors.
If you are making BMs after each meal, maybe your Metabolism is running a little high and will level out, because right now your body is cleaning itself, and if you been eating a very poor diet for years then this is all new to the body, and you are going to have regular BMs and lose weight like nothing for the first few weeks and maybe you'll level out.
What I don't understand is how many times perday do you go. All we have here is one time, and we are thinking you go every 3 to 4 hours, and if you are going like that.. Maybe you do need a doctor.
I really think your 9pm wrap is helping remove some of the things you ate the night before. I get 2 BM perday, and If I get it.. WHOOOWHO! If I skip a few days on the BM's. I know I need to eat more lettuce/fruit ect..... I don't think you should worry about it... If you are not going every 3 to 4 hours like you say you are.. I think this is just the change of diet lifestyle that has you on the go like this.. Drinking lots of water helps with the BM.
I hope some of this helps you out. Good luck to you.. Take care
"You worry about the doctor when your BM's starts to look like puddin, and not a BM with shape."
What type of food should not be eaten?
Calorie Count does not prescribe a particular diet or tell people to avoid particular foods. We only ask that you eat a balanced diet... Read more
