I have a serious chocolate addiction, how to curb it?

Quote  |  Reply
I crave cookies, candy, just anything chocolate and I have no idea how to get rid of the craving.  I have tried "cold turkey" and that wasn't very prettty.  I get very irritable when I can't have my chocolate.  Does anybody else have, or had, this problem, what do you do about it.  I think I am in the "extreme" category when it comes to a chocolate addiction.

oh, i have a huge chocolate addiction, too.  it's awful.

DON'T do the cold-turkey thing (obviously you've figured that out...) and DON'T cut it  out completely!! that second part was one of the worst dieting mistakes i've ever made.  moderation is key... we've all heard it. it's true, though.

get a bag of chocolate chips, and have just a few at night. or, buy those tiny candy bars that are out now for halloween. then you still have to exercise some self-control! i've been known to eat half a bag of chocolate chips, or even an entire bag of halloween candy (usually after restricting myself before that).

how much do you eat per day? do you have to eat it everyday?

try some healthy choices... not very healthy but better than the others.

cocovia bars.

swissmiss hot chocolate diet

and vitamuffins.

don't walk around looking for chocolate otherwise you will end up having a box of chocolate everyday.

I feel you because I am in the same boat.
I second the snack-size Halloween candy bars.  I just had a mini-Payday today, after over a year of denying myself ANY candy, and I almost died from how good it was.  The mini-Kit-Kats are only 75 calories apiece.  I'm going to have one of those later this week.  Also, there are lots of things you can do with Hershey's sugar-free syrup.  It's only 7.5 calories a tablespoon.  You can mix it in with skim milk, drizzle it over fruit, or put it on a sandwich with a banana and a little low-fat peanut butter.  Mmm-mmm.  These are just some things I like to do.  Also, I second the swiss miss diet hot chocolate.  A warm, soothing cup of chocolate-flavored heaven for only 25 calories.
I drink yogi brand cocoa spice tea.  It's mostly organic and has no calories (I also add a packet of stevia or splenda).
i always have a glass of chocolate milk... i dont know it may be the fact that it just fills me up..lol... also try the darkest chocolate you can find
i've been eating these 90 calorie snack packs of mini-rice cakes "chocolatey drizzle" flavor and the chocolate on them is pretty darn good to satisfy a craving.
im not really addicted 2chocolate, but i'd imagine the Ococo's Chocolate Crisps might help. they taste pretty good, like a deep coco flavor. 90 calories a bag (i guess in the same leage as the rice cakes bags)
Try the 100 calorie packs [=
What about chocolate pudding?  Jell-O makes a 100-calorie fat free pudding cup, as well as a 60-calorie sugar-free one.  They're both good and chocolatey.
lol, i just re-read your post and realized that everyone (including myself) is giving you more options, not ways to stop craving chocolate all together.

welll there really is no sure-fire way. everybody has something they crave or can't seem to live without, and with you it seems to be chocolate. let's just hope all these options help you keep your craving under control, ya know?

sorry i can't give  a straight answer 2 your post :(
chocolate calcium chews. obviously don't eat these as a snack, but 1-2 a day can help you get the calcium you need plus ward off pesky cravings. I love the viactiv fudge brownie ones. they're delicious (but are a SUPPLEMENT, NOT a snack, just remember that) and 20 calories

BANANAS!!

Believe it or not, bananas curb chocolate cravings.

If you must have chocolate, try dark chocolate, not milk chocolate. Dark chocolate actually is not too bad for you, it's the milk in most chocolate you buy that is bad, because it is milk chocolate.

ratinhat88: just be careful with jello chocolate. they are 6 snacks and if the person can't control his portions - which is always the case- he will end up having 360 calorie jello snacks. I did that last night because it was so good and simply AVAILABLE. one snack didn't satisfy me because it is just small.

I've always found that when I want chocolate, if I have something spicy like salsa, the chocolate craving goes away.

You might try that!

=^..^= MOLLY

I know how to fix it! .... take one day...and buy all the chocolate you love (chocolate chip bits are great for this).

Then, skip breakfast, lunch and dinner... then, sit down and eat all the chocolate you can (within an hour!) Eventually, it will seem so gross you wont want to look at again for a good while! (I ended up doing this one day while baking, cured me of wanting chocolate for a while o.O)

I too have a serious addiction to chocolate. Not only do I crave more once I have even a morsel, I can't stop once I start. And I have an actual physical reaction...like a drunken stupor or drunken rage type reaction.

So I knew I had to give it up! How???

One Day at a Time!! Each day, I told myself, "not today, but maybe tomorrow" and no matter how bad it got on any one day, I just kept putting it of for one day. Eventually, the craving stopped, but I know it will start up any time I touch the stuff. I know this because if I walk past a candy sotre, the thoughts start. So I simply tell myself, Not Today! And one day at a time, it works.

Oh gawd... I know how you feel. I'm a chocoholic!

These are the alternatives that worked for me...

Surgarless cacao. They're the best. They're like bite-size chocolate balls.

Dark chocolates are healthier alternatives too (9 pieces of dark chocolate kisses = 230 kcal that's about 26 kcal/1 pc). 63% is a considerable amount, I think. Higher than that, doesn't taste good. Yulk! There are some sugarless chocolates that are good, too.

You could also try swiss miss chocolate drink.

I know this sucks, but you still have to take these in moderation, otherwise you'll still have the same problem. The only difference is, they're healthier and you can take a little more of the alternatives than the usual 'calorie-buster' chocolates, so to speak.
