one VERY VERY Serious question...

 

Can YOU trust the calories content written on those packaged products?

I've heard lots of people say 'no' that you measure it out they may a gram or two off. However, in the examples I'm familiar with, the difference is 10-30 calories, so if you're not eating lots of packaged stuff, the margin of error is still pretty low.

Nutrition panels have to be at least 80% accurate by law.... often it'll be better than that.   Make sure you're reading them properly.  If something says 'cals per 100g' but the packet contains 200g then you have to double all the numbers.   If the panel says 'cals per serving'... check what 'a serving' is.

Really? That doesn't sound very accurate to me.

Oh I doubt they are positively perfect but more importantly is they show a lower calorie level but hide the serving size with what I call confusing marketing....lol

The '80% accuracy' does depend on the product.   The simpler the food, the more accurate it's going to be.... a bag of oats or some uniformly stamped out biscuits, for example.  But if it's something like a bowl of cereal with clusters of dried fruit you have to work with reasonable averages.... no two bowls are going to be exactly the same.

I agree with Gi-jane. Legally calorie counts can be out by up to 20%. The best way to know exactly what you're eating? Cook it yourself from scratch.

Nope because they are purely estimates rounded up or down.... I mean not every slice of bread in the package is going to have exactly 80 calories per slice... one might have 75 while the other has 90!! You never know!

I really have a problem with my daily bread intake./

but would the calories differs greatly? Like more than 100 cals different..
