Are you serious?!
So, today i was watching the morning show.. and they had these people on with this supposedly new "miracle" diet that they found on a infomerical. The diet consists of eating 500 calories a day, no exercise, and being injected with a pregnancy hormone. I think its called the acg diet? They had a couple on that lost ~50 pounds each on the diet.
All i have to say is... are you SERIOUS?? How is this healthy, whatsoever..i can't really believe they were promoting this on a morning show..
People are always looking for something fast to get the weight off..but come on. Being injected with pregnancy hormones, 500 calories a day, and no exercise?????!!
What is WRONG with people!!????
Sounds like a slow and extremely unpleasant form of suicide to me.
Other than that: there have always been crazy people out there who were better off behind bars in a strait jacket. ESPECIALLY if they are in a position to sell off their madness to other people.
Yeah i can NOT imagine tourturing my body with eating only 500 calories day..not to mention i like working out and there is no way you can do that with your body running on 500 cals.
I dunno what exactly pregnancy hormones are, but the whole thing just sounds scary! >.<
That is unbelievable! It's so scary that people could even think that this plan is a good idea!
It is amazing to me that anyone would try that.
It doesn't, however, surprise me that a T.V. show is promoting this.
500 calories a day - that is starving yourself! You would lose weight fast, mostly muscle. I would think.
Did they say why the people are injected with "a pregnancy hormone"?
On only 500 calories a day, you wouldn't need help from anything else or exercise to lose wight. I wonder, if they add hormone injections, to make it sound professional and safe. To some people it might sound healthy because of the added hormones. Not to me!
I think I've heard about the idea behind the pregnancy hormones - something like, "women have a hormone that is released after birth to help get rid of the extra weight they put on during pregnancy."
On the other hand, just from this site alone, I've seen so many people complaining about trying to lose that weight, I'm not sure about how well that hormone actually works.
But like healthydiet said, if they are only eating 500 calories, how much faster could a hormone make the weightloss, unless it somehow made the situation healthier? I doubt it.
double post.
the "pregnancy hormone" is perhaps a form of the hormone prolactin. This hormone plays a central role in a female's ability to lactate. During lactation an extremely large amount of the body's resources are dedicated to producing milk. This usually results in weight loss.
But this of course would also result in the female lactating....
also, there needs to be development of the structures responsible for producing milk before prolactin can have its effects (lactation). And this can;t occur without the proper levels of other hormones. Therefore a regime of multiple hormones would be needed to induce lactation and thus weight loss.
But this may not be how it works at all... just extrapolating.
The diet is called the hCG diet for the hormone they are using: human Chorionic Gonadotropin. This hormone is usually synthesized by the placenta in pregnant women. For this reason, it is also the hormone tested for in a pregnancy test.
SIGH. People seem to have an infinite capacity for trying the same thing that has led to disaster in the past, over and over again.
It's called insanity, but people just go goo-goo for magic pills and quick-fixes.
For some reason, the notion of "consistently eat less food (healthy food) and move more over the long term" is absolute anathema to million
It's a MAD...MAD...world we live in.......and we humans are meant to be the intelligent ones....I for one beg to differ????????????
I saw this!!!
The couple's doctor that was promoting this 'fad' was overweight herself! And the doctor who was claiming this to be bunk said that it is all about calories in and calories out.....and she is a direct result of that (she looked very fit). It was insane, to say the least!!!
At 500 calories, paired with a hormone injection, I think the body is going to experience some damage.
Stupid show....
Trudeau is a convicted felon with criminal convictions in the early 1990s for fraud and larceny. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has sued him numerous times. A federal order currently restricts his ability to promote and sell any product or service. However, he is permitted to promote books and other publications due to free-speech protection under the First Amendment as long as they are not used to promote or sell products or services and do not contain misrepresentations On November 19, 2007, a court found Trudeau in contempt of that court order for making deceptive claims in his book The Weight Loss Cure 'They' Don't Want You to Know About.Wanna bet that this couple is paid by dear Kevin to go on TV and hawk his book since he's not allowed to do so himself anymore?

Where would you even get "pregnancy hormones?" Is it like a black market kind of deal or can you get a prescription for them? What kind of doctor would approve such a ridiculous theory!?!
So sad it is almost funny.
500 cals a day, and OF COURSE no exercise, if you even tried to exercise on that amount of calories, you would be a total mess.

I'm not surprised at all, honestly
hi, all, I saw that show too--they were not promoting the HCG diet, they were just presenting information. they had two doctors on the show who gave the opinion that it was not a good thing.
HCG is not a post-pregnancy hormone, it is THE pregnancy hormone. That is the hormone that the pregnancy tests will pick up to tell you if you are or aren't pregnant. With high hcg, your body does not absorb the calories as much, they go to the fetus. Since there is no fetus, you expel them....
I think both hosts of the show said it was something they would never try.
I actually read this a few weeks ago in the paper. The people that were interviewed for the article were raving about this HCG Shots and how they were loosing all this weight then they say it helps them not be hungry so they can eat 500 calories a day. It was for a 6 week duration. Gee I would like to see a study to see what is working the shot or the 500 calories consumption. Also no doctors would give prescriptions for this so they are having to be order on line and self given. Now that is what I call safe, why not just skip the shots and eat 500 calories. Now that would be hard and crazy, we wouldn't want to work to lose weight.
Edited to Add: I am not promoting the 500 calories eaten before some thinks that I am.
Not too mention these people paid something like 500dollars or more a month to receive these injections, that they gave themself.. they just ordered them online.....
mm.. sounds sooo safe and effective.![]()
