Are there people on here that are really this dumb or are they playing dumb?  Over & over again people post "Am I in starvation mode?"threads and then say I eat less that 1200 calories and work out for 1-2 hours...what do you think?  Am I in starvation  mode?

UM, let's see YES!  You're giving you body about 500 calories a day after workouts...you're starving to death, hence the fact that your BMI is like 13 and you're always freezing and your airis failing out.

Sorry, but these posts are getting really old.

Cross posted from weight loss?

Eh. What can you do? By all means, vent if you need, but.. the posts won't stop.

If it bugs you, it's probably time to stop reading and responding and just pick and choose the posts you'd LIKE to read. :D

"Sorry, but these posts are getting really old".

I'm sorry, but so are posts like theeeeeese!
It was a vent...sorry.

And I do usually just ignore them without even opening them.  Which what I will go back to doing.

But are people really this naive about nutrition and health?

Unfortunately, yes.  And, as a society I think we have a tendancy to disbelieve that which we want to disbelieve.  If you truly want the answer to be A, and someone tells you B, it's going to take a lot for you to be convinced of A.  That doesn't hold true for everyone, but it holds true for enough people that repetitive posts and questions like you mention will probably always exist.

As much as I would love it if people read through the entire site before asking questions in the forums (they'll usually find most of their questions answered anyway) sometimes we just need another.. uh.. screen name to spell it out for us.  When I first started, as much as the website told me to eat 1300 calories I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how the hell to get that much food in me without bursting.  So I asked the forum.  After about a week of just clicking around, I realised not only is that question asked a lot, but there's also a drop-down arrow on the search so I can search the forums for other posts similar to mine.

Some features escape us.  Some explanations escape us, too.  I still, for the life of me, do not understand all of those nifty calculations to figure out daily deficits.  I'm sure I'm not the only one.*

*CD would like to note she is not stupid and skipped every mathematics class her entire life.  She blames her stupidity on a car and a curb, making her excuse pretty frickin' legit.  Thank you.

Anyone want to get me started on doing low weight/high reps?

Then there are the people who say OMG I only ate like 1100 cals today and now I'm in starvation mode. It takes more than a day people.

That was my mini vent
A) Some people really are just very ill-informed about nutrition and health in general and really don't know any better.  At least they're asking the questions and trying to be healthy.

B) Some people know better and are just trying to reassure themselves by the one or two responses they'll get saying "oh no, I do the same thing, it's fine"

C) Some people know better and just really really need the attention.  They crave the responses saying "Oh my goodness! You're so thin already!  There's no way you should be eating that little!"  Or the ones saying that people are worried about them and their lack of nutrition. (I find these are usually the same people that post pictures of themselves rail thin and ask how they can drop 30 lbs)

They do get really repetitive and it does get a bit annoying, it's just hard to weed out which ones genuinely want the info and want the help and which ones couldn't care less what advice they get, they just want the attention.

Your on the money with C

What I find is that there's usually someone willing to field all the questions, even these. If you can't be that person, that's perfectly fine. If you can, that's great too. Many of these posters really DON'T know better, as PJ said, so the best thing you can do is answer and, if you think the post may be against the posting guidelines, let a moderator know, either directly or by clicking on "Report Violation".
