seriously wondering why this is

Quote  |  Reply

I am looking for the reason why I can eat less calories in a balanced diet (following a food pyramid as far as servings in a day and so forth) and gain weight... but then cut out most grains (and with them the refined sugars I had been consuming in them) only, eat more calories in a day and lose weight easily?

I have heard something about "Eating Right for Your Blood Type", which was a book series that came out some time ago. Does it really have something behind it and could that be the reason for this situation I am experiencing? I did really well weight loss wise on the Atkins Diet (shudder) 11 years ago when I tried it for about 4 or 5 months, and lost like 50 pounds. I only quit because the sight of eggs or the taste of cheese was making me vomit. Now of course I know the difference between a diet and a lifestyle and would never give that a go again, but it sure it tempting when I know I could drop the weight fast if I did it again.

Now days I eat only carbs from fruits and veggies. My only real grain is rice cakes and whole wheat tortillas occasionally. (of course I do splurge at times and have a piece of toast or other grain goody... I love english muffins with butter and peanut butter... but my hips sure don't like em much). I do use honey as a sweetener in my tea, but other than that no real sugars either (refined that is)

thoughts, or real info?

It seems that you have figured out for yourself what I had to go to an integrative medicine doctor to find out.

She did a bunch of tests on me, made me fill out an extensive questionnaire that went back to my infancy!

And then gave me what she called the type O diet.  It's not the same one as in that book though, I checked.  But it's similar.

I am not supposed to have any wheat (but she also told me I should cheat once a week if I wanted to).  But I have more going on than just an intolerance to wheat.  I also avoid dairy (with 2 exceptions), corn and all corn derivatives, sugar, artificial sweeteners (with 1 exception), and most root vegetables. (And I have thyroid issues... long story)

I've lost 25 lbs since I started last summer.  :)

But I've mostly lost my taste for those foods anyway, so I don't mind giving them up.  I eat mostly lean, unprocessed meats, green veggies, tomatoes, and certain fruits that I'm allowed to have.

Why?

My genetic heritage (scandinavian & german) + whatever quirks of genetic expression that cause my body to respond badly to those foods = nomo has to be careful in her food choices.

:D

Thing is though, I am not a Type O blood type. If I ate the diet for my blood type I would blow up like a balloon. No meat, dairy... grains veggies and fruits.

I will look online and see if I can find any info on the Type O diet... hmmmm.
