I am sure we have all experienced this... When you search for a food on CC and the serving size is not measured in grams or cups but simply states "1 serving size".
So my question is, is "1 serving size" a standardized measurement. Like, does that represent 200 grams for example or is it basically just random?
Thank you!!

Hmm. All the ones I've seen have a gram measurement after the one serving statement. It's easy for your eye to just travel past it looking for a more useful unit of measure, but those 'one serving' things are mostly why I borrowed from my parents with no intent to give it back because they sure as heck don't use it bought my kitchen scale.
When you are about to add it to your food log, there is usually another block under it. It would says Grams or Oz. Usually that will tell you how many grams or oz there is in That serving size.
I do understand your concern. :) Sometimes there would be 9 serving sizes in tiny little package of salty bamboo or something I love. lol
In my experience, serving size isn't universal. It's just how they try to make it sound not as bad for you on the package.
Edit: Added my opinion and fixed typos.

Serving sizes on packages are completely and totally non-standard. The only usefulness of a serving size is calculating the actual caloric and nutrient content of something in a wrapper - it's pretty common, for instance, for a large pastry thing like a cinnamon roll to list two servings, even though the pasty itself is just one roll in one package. Serving Size DOES NOT EQUAL Portion Size, and not all serving sizes are created equal.
Haha, "borrowing" is always fun! : )
Sorry, I really need to be more clear when I post. Agh! For example I know that when you look at a wheat thins nutritional information there will be a line that says 1 serving THEN how many crackers that represents for them. But say I eat out somewhere (hmmm, general tsao's chicken) and come back later that night to log those calories. I have to rely on CC's nutritional information. And sometimes I will find the perfect description of something I ate but the label only says 1 serving size. UGH! Like how am I supposed to know off the top of my head? haha...
Thanx!
P.S. My absolute favorite marketing "trick" is when you buy one bakery cookie, for instance, and the nutritional information says that 2.5 servings are in this cookie. Uh?! haha

I have the same question. I had dinner at a restaurant and only had a small portion of my dinner (and saved the rest for later) I found the food in CC (it was a Conquistador at Don Pablo's) but the only choices were 1,2 or 3 serving size and mo place to put 'other' and put in your own weight. I thought the entire meal was considered '1 serving' because of the high calorie count, but I could be wrong I suppose. How do you put in a smaller size than the one offered if there is no 'other' option?
