How many servings of vegetables am I getting?
I try *very* hard to eat a salad a day, and if it's not a salad then I'll throw some veggies in with my supper or something. I eat those individual salads from The Superstore (Canada). They weigh 250 grams and here is what they contain:
- Lettuce, mixed but more iceberg than romaine :(
- Shredded carrots
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- 3 cherry tomatos
- Cucumbers
I know it's impossible to know anything precise, but how many servings of vegetables would you guesstimate this to be? The bowl is about 5.5 inches across and 2 inches deep.
Thanks!
Jamie

And the bowl is round? Let's see if I can calculate the volume of the salad bowl in inches squared, convert it to metric and then to english system...
Not! :) that's too hard! LOL
1 cup of raw vegetables is considered a serving.. so if you can estimate how many cups are in there, you'll have an idea.
From the dimensions of the bowl I'd guess 2 - 2.5 servings. But it's hard to guess just using my ruler. How many tennis balls would fit in there? A tennis ball is about the size of a cup...

I think you'd actually get a few tennis balls in there...ahahaha
I think a serving of lettuce is TWO cups isn't it? I know most others are 1/2 cup. I count my big salad as ONE serving. We need 5 to 9 per day, or if you go by MY standards 5 to 11.
I would count your salad as one serving, two at most.

Not enough information to say. I take that back! you said 250 grams. An ounce is about 28 to 30 grams, so you've got about 8 or 9 ounces there. Grams are a weight, and cups are a volume measurment, so it's hard to say, but I'd say you've got the equivalent of two 4 ounce servings.
I looked up a couple of serving size weights
Lettuce - 1/2 cup = 28 grams
Carrots, grated - 1/2 cup = 55 grams
Lettuce - 1/2 cup = 28 grams
Carrots, grated - 1/2 cup = 55 grams
This is where I get frustrated. I mean - to me this means it is IMPOSSIBLE to get enough fruits and veggies. I would have to have 3-4 salads worth a day to get enough and that is just TOO MUCH for me. I'm also supposed to get as much wheat, and that seems even HARDER to do. The only thing I am even close to getting enough of is dairy but that's only because of my cheese addiction!
