I have been having weird feelings in my stomach lately. 2 nights ago I threw up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, but I think it was all stomach acid, and ever since, my stomach feels really sick all the time, and it burns and feels hungry constantly. I'll probably go to the doctor if it persists, but it won't be for a few days. I'm finding it difficult to feul my body for my workouts. I'm having trouble eating and drinking. Water makes me feel bloated and makes my stomach hurt. Does anyone know how to sooth an upset stomach?? Any ideas for what to eat that won't make me feel so sick??
The usual advice is 'rest the gut'.... sip warm, plain liquids and avoid eating as far as possible. Peppermint tea or camomile tea could help. Peppermint tea is good for indigestion and nausea and camomile tea has very calming/soothing properties. If acid is an issue you could try taking over-the-counter antacids such as Gaviscon liquid to try to settle that down.
I wouldn't suggest doing workouts until you feel better. Exercising on an empty/sick stomach won't help matters. Do see your doctor if you're still feeling poorly in the morning.
I have really bad stomache issues and I swear by papaya extract tablets. You can buy them at Walgreens (and probably every other chain drug store). Generally they are less than $5 a bottle. Take a couple then wait a couple hours and take a couple more, they generally make me burp a little but things settle down pretty quickly. If that doesn't work then you can get a liquid called Emetrol (not sure I spelled it correctly) but it has a rainbow on the bottle. It is a mixture of several complex sugars that balance the pH in your stomach...similar to coke syrup but I think it works better. I am sure the pharmasist can point it out immediately to you. Hope it helps...much less harsh than the antacids.
Whenever I threw up as a child my mother made me drink flat coke(stir the bejesus out of it so it fizzes no more) and eat plain crackers (unsalted saltines). Also I was given apple sauce. These remedies were for nausea and vomiting due to flu. You probably have a different source so they might not help.
I've heard that ginger helps. Put some ground ginger in hot water, make ginger tea and drink.
Peppermint tea, ginger tea (they also have ginger capsules, if you dont' like the taste). I had a roommate from Romania, and when I had a stomach ache, she had me suck on a lime - said it was a remedy for morning sickness in Romania. Seemed to help, but can't imagine why.
Almost the same thing happened to me a few months ago and it lasted for a really long time. I went to a gastroenterologist and he had me go on the generic form of Zantac (you can get it in the store, over the counter). It's a stomach acid reducer, and believe me, I was dealing with months of a tense stomach, nausea, and unless I ate like a bunch of bread/starchy food, my stomach just felt awful. But the reducers REALLY helped, and they weren't too powerful to really affect me badly. After awhile I started getting headaches from it but that's all. And after a few weeks, I went off, and I felt much better.
