Severe Morning Sickness

Quote  |  Reply

I am 9 weeks and 4days pregnant and I feel terrible. Nausated all day long, although the only releaf I get is when I'm sleeping which is good. and last weekend I was getting sick up to 4 times a day. It's gotten a little better not getting sick as much but still nausated all the time, and never know whether or not I was going to get sick. I've been to the doctor and the prescribe vit.B6 4 times a day and unisom at night. that didn't work. Now I've been prescribed Reglan before every meal and at bed time. it seem to help some the keeping some food down, but the nausea is still bad. I am just frustrated I hope this doesn't last all pregnancy, I really want to enjoy this miracle.  but I just feel miserable. just needed to vent, thanks.

many women find their nausea begins to abate or stops completely with the second trimester-- so hang on just a few more weeks!

some women however dont get so lucky or it might come and go.  you might want to ask about zofran if you are getting sick constantly still.  Are you gaining weight or maintaining?

Ginger candies might help to keep you from feeling nauseated, same with ginger tea and to a lesser degree, ginger ale.  Keep from being empty stomached-- that can help too.  Try having saltines and a bit of clear soda by your bed and just a bite or two as soon as you wake up and before sleeping-- sometimes that can ward off the nausea.  Also look into seasickness bands-- they put pressure on a pressure point on your wrist that really does help with nausea.  If you google, you can probably find an "at home version."

Good luck and congrats!

As drea99  said above keep some crackers by your bed and before you go vertical eat 2 or 3 crackers.   I had SEVERE morning sickness in my 1st pregnancy that never went away.  But I used the tip above.  Lots of gingerale always nibbling on crackers thru out the day.  I also found certain triggers like toothpaste made it worse.

In no way qualified to recommend this (since I've never been pregnant) but I've heard sucking on a lemon can help with the nausea. I had a roommate from Romania, and she told me that this was a common home remedy there for morning sickness.

My only personal experience is that I tried when I had an upset stomach and it seemed to help.

I had horrible nausea and food aversions during my first trimester. I couldn't even drink water because the though of it made my stomach turn. I could, however, drink lemonade (Crystal Light) and it went down with no trouble. There may be some truth to this lemon theory.
