How does severe tooth decay affect weight loss?
Asked by anonymous on Jun 08, 2009 in Health Conditions

I have severe tooth decay.  Can that affect my losing weight?

Answer

Dental problems can limit your food choices, but they generally don’t affect your calorie requirements.  To lose weight, everyone needs to keep food logs and  stay within their personal Calorie Target, as shown by the Eat Meter.  Severe tooth decay calls for an individualized “Dental Soft Diet” designed for difficulty chewing.  The diet recommends avoiding raw fruit and vegetables, tough meats and foods containing nuts.  But all foods can be eaten in the form of soups and stews, roasted and baked dishes or finely chopped salads.  Read how to plan a balanced diet at the Calorie Count blogs.
