My sex drive is GONE!!!!

Quote  |  Reply

When i started dieting and losing weight my sex drive was lost just like those extra pounds. I have NO idea what is wrong with me. Its taking a toll on the relationship and the frustrations are just popping up from no where!

Does anyone have any adivce or maybe some insight to help me through this?

Check your diet. Make sure you aren't losing too fast. A loss of sex drive is likely hormone or energy related... very common to those who suffer from anorexia. (Absolutely NOT accusing you! Just making a reference.)

Try googling food aphrodisiacs. =P I've seen a lot of news headings about those lately... Aha!

hmmm, thanks i think i might try that. Im sure im not anorexic due to the nutrionists that i see 3 times a week. its just unfortunate!

I would talk to the doctor if I were you.

As your weight fluctuates, so will your hormone balances. There are so many things that can affect your sex drive ... hormones, energy, quality of sleep, thyroid function, medications, exercise... if it doesn't resolve itself before too long you might want to ask a doctor about it.  But, I have noticed that mine has gone down too since I have started losing weight.  I think that mine is partly because for awhile I was pushing myself way to hard in my workouts, so by the end of the day I was exhausted and sore and had no desire for any further physical exertion!  :)

If you are taking a birth control pill, that might be causing the change in sex drive and losing weight/exericising just exacerbates it.

ok, so since its only been a month since its started i will wait just a bit longer to see if things level off back to normal. Thanks for letting me know that i am not alone!

I would also reccommend making sure you are getting enough zinc and b vitamins in your diet. Pumpkin seeds anyone???

yeah... when i started loosing weight i lost my period and sex drive. been 9 months with no sex drive, i have excepted it as the norm :P

i have had one period... its weird since i am at a healthy weight?

Honey, if you`re not using that sexy hunk of a man, I`ll take him in a heartbeat. Now if that isn`t motivation enough, I don`t know what is.. :)

This seems to be more of a female problem...  Is it unusual for males to experience similar issues?

I mean I got this friend, and he might want to know....

erm, ok..I admit it...my "friend" is also experiencing similar issues !  Embarassed

It might not be psychological for you, but it definitely was for me. When I started dieting, I was suddenly..."aware" (for lack of better word) of my weight and my unhealthiness which lead to a bunch of frustrations with myself. I simply didn't feel sexy or in the mood to do anything sexual with my boyfriend for a while. I finally recognized that my lack of sex drive was due to how I felt on the inside, and me and my boyfriend helped resolved some of the issues. I wish I could be of more help, but I can tell you that it did pass, and the sex drive came back with a vengeance. ;D

I don't know if you're feeling the same way I did, but I just thought I'd give you my insight and experience.

Good luck. (:

nope its definately my libedo, thats what my friend says anyway..

i will keep him thanks!!! hehe.

But seriously. i'm not sure that it is psychological, i just had this love for food and shared that in my relationship.

Whatever the issue is i hope that it resolves itself soon!

On a lighter note, Scott Adams (the creator of the Dilbert comic) has a theory that a dieting person finds it harder to resist sexual advances.

"Putting it all together, the best first date a guy could arrange would involve a woman who is on a diet to begin with. Eating is the first temptation she is trying to resist, making other temptations that much harder to resist. The date would start at around 5 pm when her glucose levels are starting to drop and the seducer should keep her hungry as long as possible. Add some alcohol to the mix and her glucose will drop further. "

This is a link to the entire article, I assure you it makes for quite an interesting read. :]

I was in a rut and I had lost my sex drive before I started calorie counting.  But since I started I had my visit w/ my OBG/GYN and I mentioned it to him.  He suggested some anti-depresessants.  I know that the mention of it is not what people want to hear and you have to be careful with some of them because the side effects are to worsen that situation.  But I've been on Budeprion 150mg/day for a month now and not only is my mind clearer but I'm also motivated and I'm over all happier.  The sex just waltz itself back into my life.  I don't know for sure if it's only your sex drive that it's gone.  If its other things.  Ie lack of drive to get anything else done, change in mood or view of the world.  There may be something else going on.  The doctor mentioned a certain hormone that we are all born w/ which is the supplier of drive (esentially) and sometime our plate is only 12" and the stuff life give us is 16" and the difference is what drives us down.  The pills help increase that hormone so that we can deal with what we have on our own personal plate..... Hope this helps
