Shaky Hands After Volleyball

Quote  |  Reply

Hello,

I've been jogging off and on for the last 3 weeks with some situps and pushups.  I have also lost about 12lbs.  I was feeling pretty proud and thought I would start playing volleyball at lunch time.  After playing volleyball for 1.5 hours my hands were shaky.  I didn't think much of it.  I played again the next day for about the same duration and my hands were shaky again.  I am planning on talking to my doctor next week.  I am 41 and really have never had any problems with physical activity in the past.  I have been sedentary for the past 5 years until recently.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark!

I wouldn't worry about it too much.  If you've been doing push ups and playing volleyball, you are using muscles that have not been trained like this in a very long time...  By all means, talk to your doctor, but I think the shakes will go away as you get stronger.

Good morning Mark!

I had a very similar experience this spring.  I started training to participate in a 5K after a year of being VERY sendentary.  Most days after training I was shaky for hours.  My physical therapist and my doctor said it was normal.  It did go away after a few weeks, but has come back when I have increased my workout intensity.

Best of luck in your efforts!  Calorie Count has worked wonders for me!

You may also need to ask yourself if you are getting enough to eat with all of that activity.

If you've lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks, if might be that you are trying to lose too fast, but cutting your calories too much.  I may be all wrong here, because sometimes when you start dieting you lose a lot of water weight, but it's something to think about.

More than likely your blood sugar was low. If you start to experience dizzyness on top of shakiness you need to set down and take a break, drink some water, eat a little something (crackers or a fruit maybe).... and even with the shakiness, I think you could consider that pushing it a little too hard.

IDK, whenever I get shaky like that it's because I'm pushing myself past my limit.

How many calories are you eating a day?

Thanks for all the reply's.  Only after playing volleyball did I start shaking.  Jogging and push-ups did not affect me this way.  Volleyball was definitely much more intense of a work out and I was probably over exerting myself.  As far as weight goes I am 205 lbs at 5'9.5".  I started eating 1700 calories to lose 2 lbs a week.  It went pretty good for the first month.  I lost about 12 lbs in the first 3 weeks and thought what a breeze this is.  For the last 3 weeks my weights been stationary.  I decided to up my calories up to 2100 calories per day for a 1lb a week loss.  I don't know what happened to my metabolism or why the weight loss has slowed down?  I always ate 1700 or more calories a day because I was afraid of slowing down my metabolism.  Also, when I worked out I would add those calories back into my count so I would not be at too large of a deficit.  I am not shaking today (Monday).  But I felt a little shaky from Thursday to Sunday.  I am planning on starting weight lifting soon.  I probably will not play volleyball again soon.  An hour and a half of volleyball goes by fast.  I enjoy it but I do not want to start shaking again.  Anyone see anything that I am doing wrong?

Mark
