Shall I gain the weight?

Quote  |  Reply

I am 17 years old girl, my height is 165 cm and I do weight 53 kilos. Today I ate a bit more, actually this whole week I have been eating sometimes 1500 calories, at times 1900-2400 calories, less or more. I would like to lose the weight .. But today I ate 110 grams of fat, I really do not know why did I consume this much fat, and how I managed. What should I do know? Shall I gain the weight?:( Should I vomit? Please give me some advices:(

DO NOT PURGE. Do not feel any need to compensate for something you might consider overeating. The serious health risks associated with purging, from About.com Health -

  • Tooth decay: Stomach acid will erode tooth enamel when a person vomits repeatedly to rid herself of food.
  • Scarred hands: The back of the hand becomes scarred by contact with the teeth when inducing vomiting.
  • Dehydration: Much of what is purged from the body by vomiting or laxative use is vital fluids.
  • Amenorrhea: The menstrual cycle needs fuel to function properly.
  • Esophageal tears: Pressure on the esophagus from vomiting can rupture it in certain cases.
  • Electrolyte imbalance: Purging food forces potassium, sodium, and chloride from the body. An electrolyte imbalance can be extremely dangerous.
  • Cardiac arrhythmias: These can occur because of electrolyte imbalances.
  • Chronic bowel problems: Constant laxative use may train the body to need laxatives even for normal digestion.

Ignore the one day of extra fat consumption - it won't hurt you - but purging, just once, can KILL you.

Have you had these types of thoughts before, about purging? I suggest you try looking at this website. You can find information about dealing with eating disorders should you have any concerns or questions about this kind of stuff, because frankly, throwing up - a form of purging - is part of the behavior problems suffered by people with anorexia, bulemia and certain other eating disorders.  I'm not saying that I think you have an eating disorder but considering purging puts you at serious risk. So, perhaps you could let your parent(s) or a counselor know if you are already involved or seriously considering doing this. A 165-cm tall, 53-kg, 17-year-old girl has a body mass index (BMI) of 19.5, which is at the 30th percentile for age. This suggests that this girl is at a healthy weight. A healthy weight range for this particular girl would be from about 50-kg to 69-kg.

Inactive 1710
Slightly Active 2040
Moderately Active 2350
Very Active 2870

Your intake looks alright as such, assuming you are sedentary. But please, DO NOT purge. Let your day's intake go and wake up tomorrow to start over. Additionally, how much weight do you plan to lose? You are already at the low end of the healthy range.

Wow, I never knew that scarred hands thing, no wonder my psychiatrist looked at me weird when seeing the dry skin on the back of my right hand. I don't purge at all, I swear.
