Shall I see the doctor?
I have a weird problem with loosing a weight. Strange thing is that I can eat like there is no tomorrow, seriously. Everytime when I have a meal I just start to stuff my face, I understand that tomorrow I could have the same great meal, but still go to the pot and making another portion. I thought that it is willpower issue, but just quit smoking 1 month ago and smoked 16 years...should I really go to see therapist and talk about it? Does anybody else has same problem? Thank you
I like to divide my meals into single serving sizes right after cooking them. That keeps me from going back for seconds or thirds.
That is very good idea, I never thought about that
...thank you. I lost already 30 pounds, my goal till the end of the year 60 more...it very tought when you like to go out and have beer now and then
I would also recommend the idea of making just what you need for one serving. Cook and serve only what you intend to eat. Fill the plate with plenty of bulky but low-calorie vegetables. Also, try the following at mealtimes
- Sit down at a table to eat - preferably in a separate area to where you watch TV, use a computer or other activities. If you are conscious of what you eat, you eat less than if you are distracted
- Eat slowly.... if you have a companion to talk to, chat. Pour a glass of water and sip this between mouthfuls, setting down your knife and fork to do so. Consciously chew your food thirty times before swallowing. It takes some time from starting to eat for your body to register that it's full so slowing down the eating process means you will eat less.
- After eating, have a hot drink... coffee, tea or a tisane. This acts as a digestif and warm liquids are filling and satisfying.
- Finally, clear away the plates, do the washing up and then go to another room, away from kitchens and food. These actions all say 'eating has finished'
You quit smoking! Congratulations!
When I quit smoking, I had the same problem. It was like something had been shut off in my brain. When I smoked, I would feel done with my meal because I began craving a cigarette. Then when I stopped smoking and got over the craving, there was nothing there to tell me to stop eating. It was really strange and it took me a long time to start feeling full again.
I should probably add that I quit smoking after 18 years and I went cold turkey. I used no meds to aid the transistion .
