Smoothies. A good way of getting one (or two) of your 5 a day into your diet. Plus they can be quite filling.

My favorite at the moment -

1 small banana, 100g frozen raspberries, 100ml almond milk & 40ml of orange juice. Works out as just under 200cal.

What do you put in yours? I thought it might be nice to find out & discover new recipes. From the simplest to something a little exotic, do share.

Sounds weird, I know, but it is very very good, I PROMISE!  Haha

Blend a granny smith, a whole carrot or two and some fresh ginger, to taste.

It's so healthy, so yummy and so refreshing!  I like to add an ice cube or two.

To max up the health benefits, scrub the carrots, don't peel them.  And leave the skin on the apple.  Fruit/veggie skins are where the nutrients are.

Anyway, good luck.  :D

ps: some vanilla yogurt is good in it too, sometimes.

I like to make quite substantial 'meal in a glass' type smoothies for breakfast.

Usually I use

1 banana
half cup frozen berries
1 tbsp flax seeds
half cup oats
about 10 pecan or walnut halves
a sprinkle of cinnamon
enough milk to make it a drinkable consistency

Some people may find the taste a bit strange, but I have grown to really enjoy these and it gives me lots of energy to get through the morning without feeling like I want to snack

I like the Cinnamon Peanut butter banana smoothie;

About 3 icecubes, 1 banana, 2 tablespoon. nut butter, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and a splash of milk (or milk substitute/ yogurt). Puree til' smooth and then sprinkle more cinnamon on top, enjoy!

I never tried this one but it looks and sounds yummy;

Pineapple smoothie

1 sweet orange, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup of sliced pineapple
1 small banana
1/2 cup of either Orange or Pineapple juice
1/2 cup of icecubes

I also love this smoothie;

Antioxidant smoothie

1 cup of frozen or fresh blueberries
2 cup of frozen or fresh raspberries
1 cup of Acai berry juice
1/2 cup of nonfat Vanilla yogurt
1 tbsp. unsweetend dark chocolate Cocoa powder

I like to peel and/or cut up fruit such as bananas and cantaloupe and freeze them in individual portions. This makes it super easy to make a quick smoothie in the morning when your trying to get out the door! =D I feel it is important to get some protein in my smoothie so it isn’t so carb loaded, a bit more balanced. I like to add the Greek style yogurt also because it adds an amazing creaminess, plus it’s more protein and calcium!

My favorite smoothie recipe:

½ cup Greek style yogurt

¼ cup vanilla soymilk

1 frozen bananas

¾ cup frozen strawberries

1 scoop protein powder

splenda to taste

I love smoothies!

My basic smoothie is 1 cup light soymilk, 1/2 cup water, a scoop of vanilla soy protein isolate, a small frozen banana and a handful of a dark leafy green.   I've added:

  • pureed pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger
  • peanut butter and cocoa
  • frozen strawberries and blueberries with orange juice
  • apples and cinnamon (if I add apples, I skip the banana)

  • "Snack pack" size of plain Vega protein powder
  • 1 tbsp creamy almond butter
  • 1 cup of nonfat plain keifer or yogurt
  • 1 large RIPE banana
  • 2 tbsp milled (ground) flaxseed
  • 1 or 2 cups of ice cubes or crumbles

Then just blend it all together. It's really like a meal in a glass (or several glasses), but it's good if you're trying to gain like me. I think it's about 500 calories for the whole thing, but it's packed full of protein, fiber, and healthy fats, so even dieters could use it as more of a meal replacement than a snack. It'd be good for a quick breakfast on the go. The only downside is the cost of Vega - even the "snack packs" are like $3.50 each. x( I suppose you could always use something else, but Vega is also vitamin and mineral fortified, and it has TONS of fiber - plus, it's soy free and dairy free so it won't cause allergic reactions or bloating like some powder formulas.

My secret ingredient is light silken tofu! It thickens it up amazingly. Mmmm, I'm craving one just thinking about it.

1 serving (227) grams of Dannon Light Yogurt (I mix vanilla and strawberry)

6oz of skim milk. I tried almond, but it just wasn't the same.

160grams of frozen strawberries, sliced

80 grams of frozen berries (I buy these and strawberries in large bags from Costco)

80 grams of frozen mangos or peaches.

Total is around 320 callories. Makes about 20oz serving, and it's thick. Which is the way I like it.

I usually do the standard banana, berry, yogurt smoothie. But I was drinking ths one quite a bit for a while in the summer:

  • 1/2 cup carrot juice
  • 1/4 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1/4 cup ice cubes
  •  low calorie, and yummy!

I LOVE making smoothies!  I work at a smoothie place so it's cool getting ideas from work.  My favorites:

    *My standby Blueberry/banana

      -1 cup silk

      -1 Large frozen banana

      -1/2 cup frozen blueberries

      -Vanilla protein powder

    *Crunchy Apple Cinnamon

      -1 cup Silk

-3/4 to 1 whole apple cut into 8ths

      -1/4 cup granola

-Banana if desired (I love them)

-1 tbsp cinnamon ( I think I usually put in more)

    *Chocolate Peanut Butter Delight

      -1 cup silk

      -1 large banana

      -Chocolate protein powder

      -2 tbsp peanut butter

    - add granola if desired, it gives it a good crunchiness!

    Blend on, fellow CCers!

I have a smoothie every day after my workout.  I have tried a ton but usually do the same one:

1 cup water, 1 scoop chocolate whey protein, 1 small banana, 2 tbs PB2, 2 ice cubes = its about 250 cals.. so good!

Sometimes I will use vanilla protein and frozen berries, that is good too

Hope you'll like one of my favorite green smoothie recipes. You can adjust(add/remove) ingredients to your own taste but the basic ingredients are the oat, juice and of course the nutrient dense leafy greens. You can also soak the oat overnight (just enough hot water to cover the oat) to save time next morn. I use either 100% apple juice or white grape juice both as sweetener and liquid to blend. I don't add sugar. Enjoy!

1 cup almond milk(or any milk)

4 pitted dates(soaked in milk untill soft)

    7 grams cacao nibs

    1 tbsp flaxseeds

    1 small ripe banana

Grind cacao nibs and flaxseeds together in a coffee grinder, throw everything in the blender and blend till nice and warm

So many Smoothies!  So little time!

    Couple of favs:

    Banana honey smoothie

    1 cup vanilla yogurt

    1 banana....preferably semi frozen

    1/2 cup milk

    1-2 tbsp honey.

    strawberry smoothie

    1 cup frozen strawberries

    1/2 cup milk

1 cup vanilla or strawberry yogurt

little bit of sugar or honey to taste.

    pineapple smoothie:

    1 cup frozen pineapple

    1 cup yogurt

    1/2 cup orange juice

I usually add a little water to these because I prefer them to be slightly thin. I usually add about 5 icecubes to make my hubbys thick.

I have tried smoothies with protein powder in them and did not like them at all. You could always add it in. I also prefer to use whole milk...i know bad.
