Shin Splints

Quote  |  Reply
Does anybody know how long it takes to condition your legs, so that your SHINS are not throbbing everytime you take a step. I walk all the time, at least five to six miles a day for work, but I recently started running again and my legs are killing me. HELP!!!!

hey i went through some intense shin splints about 2 years ago. I had them during my soccer season but i played through the pain...which probably wasnt a good idea....and it took me about a good 6 months for my shins to totally heal. After the really bad pain subsided(which occured when i stopped moving)...the only pain id have is if something hit me in the shin. All i have to say is follow R.I.C.E...that is rest, ice, compression, elevation. Ice up about 20 mins on, 40 mins off after your walks. Elevate your legs while you're icing them too. Most importantly....cut down your long walks to about 2-3 miles and rest as much as possible.
Take a bottle of water and a packet of Jell-0 and pour it into the bottle of water like kool-aid. Drink that, the calcium will help, its what we used to  use in track.
