Shirataki Miracle Noodles?
I was researching pasta and came across this site:
http://www.miraclenoodle.com/zone.html?gclid= CPW56-6RwZkCFQXGsgodrxPutw
Has anyone heard of or tried this Miracle noodles? They said its "
"made of naturally water soluble fiber with no fat, sugar, or starch.
* contain zero net carbohydrates and zero calories, no gluten -made of a healthy
natural fiber called Glucomannan."
I love pasta (wheat) but it would be great to have pasta with ZERO calories.
Reason: Moved from WL to Foods forum
Like everyones been saying, they're best when you let them "marinate" in some kind of flavorful sauce. Its really easy to eat them with some healthy salad dressing stuff like vinegars and a little oil. Also, they are amazing with tomato sauce when you let it sit in the sauce for a couple hours. MMM
Hmm...you're all missing a key point when you are prepping the noodles. Shirataki and konyaku (shirataki is just noodle-shaped konyaku, which is really common in Japan. You can use it for all kinds of dishes) need to be boiled before use in order to get rid of that nasty smell. Konyaku comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. I usually buy a block of it and cut it into little cubes, and then boil them for 3-4 minutes. You should rinse them both before boiling and after to really get rid of the smell.
Be careful to make sure that you're using them as part of a meal, as opposed to trying to live off of them because they are zero calorie. There have been cases over here in Japan where people have become seriously malnourished trying to do a "konyaku diet".
Once I bought them, but they looked so gross that I couldn't bring myself to try them! However, after reading the posts here I decided, because so many of you like them, to try them again. I'll remember, though, to rinse, rinse, rinse them. :-)
I just tried the fettuccine versions. Holy crap, I'm in love.
The portions I bought were small. I thought i needed to use 2 bags (although i have plenty left) but 2 bags were 80 Calories, 4 Net Carbs. Are you kidding?!!?!?!
I decided to go Alfredo with them. It would have easy to create a sick cheese sauce and drench them to make it awesome, but i decided to try to limit the calorie and carb number on it. I used Laughing Cow Lite (35 calories 1 carb per serving) I used 3 of them, sour cream (4 table Spoons, 120 calories No Carbs) 1 table spoon of heavy cream (100 Cals No carbs) and a pat of butter (100 cals No Carbs). Then mix some good ol' seasoning in to really make it pop(Basil, Garlic, salt, pepper and BOOM. you have 2 servings (3 perhaps if people eat very reasonable portions) of Fettuccine Alfredo and the whole dish is 505 calories. divide it by 3?
168 calories.
I only made this for myself. I coooould eat more. But I'm actually terrified. My brain cant accept that the math on the cals and carbs is right. I'm 80 percent sure that these noodles were created via dark magic. It's the only thing that can explain this. It took about a second and a half to get used to the slightly different texture of the noodles.(The hell fires of Hades must have SOME sort of effect) Its a quick adjustment because pasta can be cooked at all sorts of different levels. Soft, hard, whatever.
This is my first crack at a recipe for these things. In 2 weeks I should have all sorts of craziness with these babies incorporated.
Anyone know what the stuff they're packaged in is? You all said that it's fishy smelling. Are they actually packaged in something made from fish?
Just curious because I'm a vegetarian and don't want to go out and buy something and then be dissapointed...
Its just water and calcium chloride (salt). Somehow the creation of the noodles results in the water smelling strange. There's no fish don't worry.
Does anyone have any great ways to add to this noodle?
I tried the shirataki noodle they are not for me. There is a another tofu noodle "wildwood" pasta slim noodles that doesnt have a tofu after taste.
