shirataki noodles available locally!
For anyone who doesn't know about shiritaki noodles, they are a wonderful zero carb-zero cal asian miracle noodle. They're also known as "konjac" or "yam" noodles. For more info, here is an article about them.
Anyway, i've read on other message boards that people can't find them in their cities. Well! I found them at Whole Foods in Shadyside and bought the last 4 packages ($1.89 each, same brand as the picture in the article), and I made an awesome tuna noodle casserole out of them from www.hungry-girl.com (love that website!).
I also found some more authentic noodles at the Lotus Food Co. in the strip district. I bought a few packs there, bravely deciding to try the one that was grayish with small flecks of seaweed in it. They also carry the more appealing bright white packs but i figured what the heck and grabbed a few of each. the small ones I got were about $1.35 per pack. Haven't cooked with it yet. Some people have said the smell of the noodles really turns them off. I wasn't at all bothered by the smell.
So. For you Pittsburgh lo-carbers out there, give these noodles a try if you haven't already, you might be suprised. : )
