SHIRATAKI noodles!!!
Does anyone eat these? They're only 40 calories for a whole BAG of them! (two servings) I guess they're made out of tofu?
I haven't tried them yet but I was wondering if anyone has a tasty recipe to go with them?
I just bought some, and have been trying to figure out what to do with them. I have heard that you can just put spaghetti sauce on them. But I am trying to figure out how to add them to a stir-fry. From what I understand you have to make sure and rinse them really well. Hopefully someone will post a good recipe here!
my friend just lost loads of weight eattin em. i bought a few packs. i tried to make a soup with them but they didn't take on any flavor and after eatting the whole bag with the addition on a few handfulls of spinach i was hungry like i hadn't eatten.
not sure if this was due to my very rigorous work out prior to this meal but the lack of flavor thing is kinda a big deal.
i have been cooking food professionaly for a few years now and was kinda discouraged by this sitch.
i have two more packs that i'll have to give a couple other cooking technique tries.
Oh yes, I love these. They are a bit more chewy that regular pasta, but I love them. Eat them all the time.
Edit: I think some recipes from the Hungry Girl site will help ya out more...some links for ya.

how do you get a large enough cal dinner for like 40 calories?
is it ok to have a dinner of 40 calories??????????
What the hell... noodles that i don't have to feel bad about eating... I'm devastated I just found this out. Thank you for telling me about this I'm going out to get them first thing tomorrow!!! After eating Penni pasta today and feeling very guilty about it, this just brightened my day.
So do I have to order these from a website or will they be in any high quality food store?? Thanks again.

No no no - that's not what they mean.
Then whole bag of NOODLES has 40 calories - that says nothing for the sauce. Tofu Shirataki noodles are ideal when used with creamy/cheesy sauces - like an alfredo. Those are super high-cal, and no one needs the additional calories from the pasta.
So you could have the alfredo sauce on THESE noodles, almost guilt-free. You know?
Plus, when I have pasta for dinner I normally have stuff on the side.
It's just a way to cut back calories in ONE area of the meal.

When you're trying to stir fry them, definitely rinse them, but pat them dry a little bit too. Because if you throw them into your pan wet like they are, you're gonna end up with flavorless mush sauce instead of noodles.
I bought some a while ago and thought they were quite icky to be honest.
I bought them from Whole Foods on Sunday and was so jazzed to find them there since Hungry Girl said Trader Joe's had them, but mine never did.
I made the linguine style last night -- rinsed the entire bag's worth of noodles under water, dried them, and then "sauteed" them for a minute or two with some garlic in pan coated with olive oil cooking spray to heat them up, and then combined them with some organic marinara sauce and meatless meatballs. I found the noodles to be way too chewy. I also bought angel hair and regular spaghetti shaped, and I'm hoping since these are less thick than linguine that they will be less chewy.
Pinki, the reason you felt hunrgy after eating these noodles with spinach is probably because they don't have a whole lot of fiber in them, or anything else for that matter. In fact, I'm kind of baffled that their calorie content is what they say it is since tofu can get a little high calorie, but I guess there's not very much actual tofu in them and more of that yam flour or whatever it is? Who knows. In any case, since the noodles themselves are so low calorie, use this as an opportunity to load the meal with tons of other stuff! Zucchini and other veggies, a low-cal pasta sauce, chicken, etc.
I'll probably have the spaghetti version tonight since I'm lazy and they're easy to make. I'll let you all know how it is!

You can order them online, but some stores carry them. Maybe not regular grocery stories, but sometimes Whole Foods or similar places have them. Or I think some people have said Trader Joe's has them. I found some yesterday at an Asian market. I'm excited to try them.
There are also non-tofu shirataki noodles that have "zero" calories. They do not need to be refrigerated, so they are a bit cheaper to order online.
Check out this thread I had started about them:

Just beware... I was so excited to try them (I LOVE noodles), but I think they are so nasty! Yuck!

Your link doesn't work.
Didn't try the spaghetti type last night, will probably try it tonight.
Can't get the link to work. Just search for "tofu shirataki noodles - experiences" and you'll find some past threads about them.
So I just tried mine yesterday, I got the spaghetti ones from Wildwood. The package said they did not need to be rinsed or parboiled, but I did it anyway after reading this post!;) They did not have a strong taste or odor at all. I mixed them into a vegetable stir fry that only had tamari, sesame oil, and ginger, and they kind of just tasted like ramen noodles only without the fat, and salt. Pretty good! They tasted a little like tofu, but that is to be expected right?!
Maybe the spaghetti ones are better? I had gotten the fettuccine ones and I thought they were the most disgusting things ever.... fishy smelling, slimy, weird texture, the whole bit.
jennylady~ If you're still looking for some, you can buy them at the grocery store... I got mine at Publix.
First I boil them in chicken broth for one minute. It gets rid of the funky smell and taste and makes them taste more like real pasta. Mix in a little Benecol butter and a quarter cup of shredded cheese (Kraft 4 cheese). It taste just like macaroni and cheese. Great comfort food.
I also microwave Gorton;s Grilled Tilapia with garlic and butter 160 calories for entire pack. Microwave some Green Giant Immunity Boost vegetables 120 for entire package, I mix the fish and vegetables together and then toss in a bag of noodles - 40 calories for the package (Don't forget to boil the noodles in chicken broth for one minute first and drain them) It taste like an amazing stir fry dish. Even my skinny friends adore it! Beats the hell out of a puny Lean Cuisine!
i don't know what it is about these noodles, whether its the texture or whatever, but they make me gag. i threw it away after one bite.
I've been eating these for about a year, I love them! Of course they aren't as good as the real thing, they are a bit chewy/chrunchy/smelly, but considering they are only 40 cals, I can deal with that. I usually put a slice of fat free kraft cheese on it, and have mac & cheese for only 70 cals, or mix it with salsa, soy beef, and beans for a more calorie dense meal.

I'll have to try that, because these babies on their own are pretty nasty. Way too chewy....ick.
