Hey Busybee,

Did you use a tool to help plan your meals?  I need one of those.

hey Berrywrap

I love your handle- totally cool:-)

no tool- I have masses of healthy cookbooks and I subscribe to a magazine called "Good Food"(from BBC UK) which I get once a month... I go through and just try to work out a balanced meal plan  and write my shopping list for the week:-) It's one of my favourite Sunday afternoon chores!

I try out 2-3 new recipes each week... If I like the new recipes I add them to my folder collectionSmile and they get reused!

I went grocery shopping today, here's what I bought!

Produce: apples, bananas, a plantain, avocado, tomatoes, spinach, onion, butternut squash, green pepper, carrots, broccoli.

Meat: extra lean ground beef, deli sliced turkey, center cut bacon.

Dairy: organic skim milk, nonfat plain yogurt, laughing cow light french onion cheese wedges, 50% reduced fat jalapeno cheddar cheese, butter spray.

Bakery: Flatout light spinach wraps, western bagel alternative bagel sweet wheat.

Other: Boca burgers, reduced sugar strawberry preserves, pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans.

Thanks Busybee!  I really need to start setting time aside to focus on these things.  That's what my eating profile stated too.  I have time management issues, so I do not have the time to eat as well as I should.

A good thing to remember when shopping....never shop in the middle always shop the very last isle the whole way around the supermarket ...think about it....produce is on the outside ....meat is on the outside and so is dairy....just don't venture in the middle of the store because all the fattening stuff seems to be there.

Okay, here is my list.

FRESH PRODUCE

fruit bowl-bananas,apples,pears,grapes,oranges,lemo ns,limes  There is only my husband and I so I buy in very small amounts.  I buy a variety of different kinds of grapes and apples. I also try to find something I haven't tried. I have added blood oranges to my list.

Salad bowl-spinach,assorted greens, tomatoes, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, ginger root(I freeze it),cucumber, red, orange, yellow and green peppers  and anything that is in season

Bread- Anything but white. Whole wheat, rye, multigrain, flaxseed

canned veggies low sodium, fruit packed in its own juices, applesauce,Reads Bean Salad

dried fruit to snack on or add to salads, baking nuts because the have no salt, mini chocolate chips(I use one third of what the recipe asks for),oats, sugar free pudding and sugar free jello,

canned tomatoes,tomato sauce,dried beans,canned beans,brown rice,birds nest pasta,water chestnuts,bamboo shoots,hosin sauce, bean sprouts,peminto,fat free chicken broth/also low in sodium,beef and vegetable broth,mini pizza crusts,

Meat- I have cut down and add vegetables. I have started eating more meatless meals. I have not become a vegatarian but I am eating more vegetables because I LOVE THEM!

Frozen-Stir fry veggies,Kroger peppers and onion mix, green beans, brocolli, brussel sprouts, veggie egg rolls, sugar free melon pops, fat free fudge bars, frozen fruit with no sugar, fat free cool whip, multigrain waffles

Dairy- Skim milk to cook with,1 percent milk to drink,egg whites,cottage cheese,reduced fat sour cream,reduced fat cheese,string cheese,fresh parmesan cheese,ICBINB spray,yogurt

Great Post Dentalfloss!  I never really looked at it that way, but you are so right!  I am going to try that the next time I go to the store.

I have already taken a stance with the kids/husband and told them I am not buying anymore unhealthy snacks.  If they want it, they should go to the store and buy it themselves.  I will only bring healthy food, snacks and drinks into the house!

Way to go me!
