Short On Calories Late In The Day
So this seems to happen a lot. I will not consume very many calories early on in the day because i will be busy but when i have dinner and add up my calories i come up short but can't cram enough calories in before bed without making myself sick.
today i only at a bit over 900! but i just ate cereal and bread with veganaise (high fat vegan version of mayonnaise) and sauteed zucchini and goji berries. i don't have any nuts or peanut butter at the moment and i don't think i really need to add more fat anyway.
anyway, my question is, is it better to stuff myself and try to get my calories up but feel sick in the end or to just try to eat a bit more but have my calories be a bit low and try to do better tomorrow?
Try to eat whatever you can today and then make sure you eat throughout the day tomorrow. Make calorie goals for yourself. You will have x number of calories eaten by lunch, x number after lunch and x number eaten after dinner. Then you can relax and have just a small evening snack.
I do that too-except i end up getting the cals in for the most part b/c i find myself stuffing my face when I get back to my room (or back home). I am trying to make an effort not to eat junk or anything late at night. That is my new goal. Sorry I dont have much advice but I wanted to just let you know that I have a similar issue.
whenever i try to do that i end up pretty much binging. i've found it's way better to just eat higher-cal things throughout the day. that way i don't have to force myself to eat more, and my stomach doesn't get used to me overeating.
thanks everyone.
i think i am going to leave it at that 900 since it's already 12:00 and i have to get up in 5 1/2 hours and i'll eat breakfast then anyway. i should get some sleep. tomorrow i will definitely get a lot more calories. hopefully too many of them won't come form alcohol. haha.
Are you recovering from an ED and getting active help with your recovery. Here is why you need to make sure you eat no less than 1200 calories a day.
Firstly, Calorie Count cannot and will not support you eating less than 1200 calories a day. We consider this unhealthy and CC is all about HEALTHY weight loss and weight maintenance.
From Mary Hartley, Calorie Count's Director of Nutrition: "By eating only 800 calories, you will not get enough energy, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other components of food. In time, you could become malnourished, which can cause severe health risks such as respiratory infections, kidney failure, blindness, heart attack and even death."
Here is a brief reason why never less than 1200 from the Advice section of Calorie Count Plus, under the Q&A tab:
Why must I eat at least 1,200 calories a day when I want to eat less?
In order to get the daily food servings you need for a balanced diet, it takes about 1200 calories a day. With careful planning, you could have a balanced diet on 1000 calories, but the restrictiveness of a very low calorie level can lead to binging and weight cycling, which will take you further from your weight loss goal. What's more, very low calorie diets can cause excessive muscle breakdown and metabolic adaptations, which can drive down your calorie requirements. In the end, you'll need fewer calories to maintain a higher weight
Your body needs at least 1200 calories per day to survive.
Here is a very rough scientific break down provided by a dietician for a 5' 2", 19 year old female weighing approximately 100 pounds, sitting around all day and doing nothing:
-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)
This used to happen to me, but I found if I switched my breakfast and lunch foods, it didn't happen. So, instead of cereal for breakfast and a homemade quesadilla for lunch, I ate the quesadilla for breakfast and the cereal for lunch. No clue why this worked for me, might not help you at all, but it made things much easier for me. Good luck!

yea. i defintiely don't think eating like this is healthy at all. but i am recovering from an ed and doing sooo much better than i used to. eating much more than i even thought possible and working on getting 1500-1700 calories a day.
I am really glad you are recovering and aiming for 1500-1700 cals ... please try to keep upping those calories for your own health!! Let us know if we can support you to get better. Do you have support outside CC to recover from the ED?
