Short girls here - around 5 feet!

Quote  |  Reply

Well I seem to have no one to talk to since I'm one of the few out there. I'm around 5'1". Currently I weigh about 126 - 127 (except for right now because I'm ready to start). Anyway, how does everyone handle food intake, calories consumed and the weight charts we are supposed to go by? I feel like we constantly get the short end of the stick. Now this website gives me a decent amount of calories to maintain my weight but I'm obviously trying to lose 11 pounds (when I'm at the weight of 126) so I will be at 115. I know they say not to drop below 1200 pounds but do you think that applies to us short people? How hard is it for you to drop the pounds?

Welcome Kamtastic!

We are the same height and I'm trying to get down to around that weight too (although I would be happy with 98 Ibs).  I weigh 105 at the moment and it has been really really hard to get under that, even though all last semester I was 98.

Shooster, I didn't realize we were the same height and age! Well the calorie increase has made me lose 2 permanent pounds so far... which is good because I went to the beach this weekend expecting to gain weight like I usually do when I'm away and with friends all weekend.  But I actually didn't really gain any weight! (well I had lost a pound before I left, making me 104.5 but I guess I gained that bc I'm currently 105.5, but that's not really a big deal).  Usually if I was away with friends I could gain up to 4 pounds! Anyways I can tell that this uptake of calories has really boosted my metabolism because I can eat sooo much more now and stay the same weight!

The only thing is that I'm used to losing weight fast (even if it's unhealthy and doesn't stay) so I am just sooo impatient and I'm only losing 1-1.5 pounds a week... I find myself weighing in every morning bc I just can't take it!! Any suggestions to cope with this impatience and stay on the right track?

oh hi I'm Yvesta and I'm 5'1 and want to lose over 100 lbs! I am currently 202.

I have always been heavy and am curious what 100 lbs looks like on a 5'1 frame??  Can anyone around this weight share pictures?

Helloo!

Welcome kamtastic and yvesta to our shorties club! =)

yvesta: Is a big challenge what you've on mind! I'm sure you can reach your goal being very patient and most important very consecuent! I'm not around that weight, but anything you need I'd try to help you!! Good luck! =D

shooster: I don't know what to say.. I would be really worse in your situation, having present the fact that I eat too much in social ocassions, so I think you've made it really good, just keep eating the healthiest you find, and when you came back, you'll put off that little amount of weight you could gain..!

Yeedy: I'm used to loose fast too.. Try to focus in the fact, that you LOST 2 pounds! Focus in your goal and don't give up! Don't be impatient, and think of this: now, that you're loosing slowly, you're loosing permanently, it wasn't that way before, you used to loose and gain, this time is different, so this is the right way, so keep doing this and you'll reach your goal soon!

I need help with something.. I've never consider a possibility of be an emotional eater, I think it could because I'm usually happy or a normal humor, so I don't need food to feel fine, the only problem I realized in me, was the abnormal eating in special occasions (but I'm handle it, so that's fine), but today: I did pretty well in the breakfast, in the lunch not so well (I ate a "cachapa" -google it, it's a venezuelan food (I'm from Venezuela by the way), with a lot of cheese and pork =S, but I focused in the fact of going to the gym and burned it, but then, in the afternoon, I'm become sad and hopeless with a little thing (another history), and I didn't wanted to go to the gym -I didn't go-, and worse of all, I eat bread with eggs at night, when I even was hungry, but I was kind of desperate and I wanted to eat more, but I stopped and try to figure out what were I thinking! I felt really bad for not going to the gym, so I decided to exercise myself at home (90 minutes of hard work), that made me feel better (kind of obsessed with exercise too).. But this time, I think isn't working, I don't know why, now I upped my calorie intake is more frequent those days when I realize that I ate a lot of calories (today I ate more than 2000), and worse of all, I'm not loosing any weight, I'm fact, I'm feeling that everyday I look fatter..! I have to focus more, but this time it's becoming really difficult!! Help me please, I don't know if a need motivation or I'm starting kind of obsessed or getting through any disorder (this scares me a lot!)..

Hey hey I'm new here, also looking to lose a bit of weight. Right now I'm 24, 4'11 96lbs, looking to get down to 90ish maybe a bit less.

I also, after doing a bit of research realized I might be dealing with an eating disorder. I went through a period where I was obsessed with eating healthy foods - cut out eggs, cheese, milk, (because they were too high in fat), junk food obviously, cream based soups, analyzed the ingredients in EVERY food, and choosing something to eat took forever because I had to relate it to the diet plan I was following that week....started working out like a maniac and began to gain weight. So I started freaking out and cutting my calories by trying weight watchers, excessive secret excersize, which caused me to gain MORE weight. So I freaked out even more, and tried to eat as little as possible, failing miserably and bingeing at night. Then I tried all in the span of 2 weeks low carb diet, high protein diet, cutting out lactose...all to no avail. Until I began tracking my calories in comparison to my activity level, realized that I was putting my body into starvation mode by unknowingly eating 500-600 calories /day. I'm still finding it really hard to eat 1200calories - after my workouts I''m still only hitting about 800-900 and live on my own so I can't afford enough food to sustain myself. Anyone have any tips on hitting that 1200 or more mark?

I'm 5 foot and about 103ish. My scale says 98, the doctors 103.5. I'd like to weigh 98 or 100lbs.

I'm a vegetarian and I eat veggies as well as cheese. (I don't drink milk or eat eggs as I think they are disgusting, but I eat products with them in it).

maru - I eat a lot during special occasions too! Actually, I ate quite a bit yesterday since I was going out to dinner with some friends I haven't seen in a while. I got a fish and chips combo while out with them. The portions were so big though, and we all went around sharing and trying each other's plates. :S There was heavy peer pressure to eat the "chocolate volcano" dessert and I gave in. :(

tiny dancer - have you tried eating nuts? they're pretty high in calories and they're also fairly healthy; whenever I'm having trouble reaching my calorie goal (lol, which isn't often because I usually go over) I try to have some nuts as a snack.

As for me, I'm having a really big issue with peer pressure. When everyone around me is eating, I can't help but join in. :S Also, I haven't been able to go to the gym for the past week because I've been too tired from either work or school. :(

But I got up extra early this morning, and I'm going to work out today. :P

Yeedy, had no idea we were in the same basket! But grats oin your lbs loss, and as for trying to stay patient, just get out of the habit of weighing yourself daily! I am trying to stop that too, I was so used to Yoyo-ing (which I still am by the looks of it) just slowly reduce weighing yourself keep it to 2 times a week, and then you'll get used to thinking about it only then!

Welcome Kamtastic and Yvesta (Amazing goal you have there, I'm err 106-110lbs now but don't mind sharing a pic from when I was at 100lbs ish..though it is from when I was 16 (5 years ago)

Maru, Yeedy had a great suggestion and I definately will be trying it, fancy joining me? Basically eat half a proper meal that will fill you up before you go to a social gathering, that way you still eat a bit there and you won't look awkward, but at the same time you won't be starved and will be thinking about how much to take while still being able to taste great foods!

AS for emotional eating, you HAVE to stop feeling guilty about stuff, yes you'll slip up, we all do (can anyone see the empty toblerone packet next to me?:P) but it's not the end of the world, we are all human and as long as you don't slip up too often, you'll be fine. TRy and stay motivated and positive, and look at things with a less nmegative point of view, hopefully you'll stop eating emotionally ( I eat when I am bored:P) Otherwise, keep a stock of low-cal filling snacks around you, I have fruit, veggies, rice puffs, etc etc close at hand and the other stuff is pretty much hard to reach (chocolate, crisps etc..) Maybe it will help?

Welcome Tinydancer, and wow you need to put your cals up! In Belgium (when am studying) I was hitting 600-800cals a day...not good..you just end up tired, you're not getting your minerals etc (unless you are taking supplements) and you're running your metabolism into the ground..you've done great by starting to up your calories, don't cut out all fat because you need fat in your body (olive oil is a good source of healthy fat and is high cal) Have nuts, Or a dollop of honey or some peanut butter on your fruit to boost your calorie limit up.

They are high cal but wont fill you up, so you'll be sneaking the calories in there;)

Don't be suprised by an initial weight gain.(your body will be adjusting..), Yeedy and I have both upped our calorie limits, whereas (unless I am mistaken) Yeedy didn't put on any weight, I have (but it could be because of changes in lifestyle or any other number of reasons) But I only put the weight on 2 weeks after I started upping cals, there was an initial loss first (so I reckon it's a lifestyle change on my part that triggerred the weight gain)

Motivated4life, welcome! And if you have any nice veggie recipes please do share, I'm always on the lookout for new recipes to try:D

Kam, peer pressure is annoying:( The best way to fight it imho (it's what I do) is to eat before you leave the house or keep a health snack on you for when you get hungry and you all arent eating yet. That way you wont be hungry and you wont take a very large portion, or try sharing it with somebody?

Hi everyone! Thanks for answer me, I'm more calm today because I went to the gym, and the scales said 110.8, a little bit less, finally.. It seems like yesterday's excessive eating didn't make any damage, instead of that, it made good for me.. I realized that when I make exercise it's easier to eat healthy, but when I don't, I become more anxious and usually overeat, it's kind of weird because I decided to eat like 1600 cal the days I exercise and 1300 those days I don't, but many times I can't do that.. Exercise makes me feel more calm and I feel that I deserve all the food I'm getting, but somehow if I don't exercise I feel kind of guilty because it seems like I'm not doing nothing to get that off... Is that normal?

kamtastic: It's terrible when it comes to special occasions isn't it? I usually try to avoid bad foods, but I can't make it all the times, the pressure is the worst part, everyone telling you "eat it, try it, it's delicious", I hate when people do that. My family doesn't try to sabotage me, but they always say that I'm too restrictive with everything and they looove to say "a little bit of X won't makes you gain weight".. But we have to deal with that, I think the best we can do is eat a salad before going to dinner or whatever and try to arrive a little bit satisfied and not overeat too much (because we all know that it's difficult not to overeat)..

tiny dancer: Very interesting history, I feel a little bit identify (exercise amount part and obssesed with healthy food).. The most important is that you realized that you need to eat more, start adding nuts, avocado, oils as dressing, etc; maybe try drinking juices or anything instead of water you can gain some calories from them, maybe try to reduce the amount of exercise you're used to and eat every kind of food (not junk food, I mean cheese, milk, etc).. Good luck!

motivated4life: welcome!! You know what? Maybe your scale is right, you can have that weight at home because you probably weight yourself when you wake up, and when you go to the doctor you go after eating or drinking something? The weight fluctuations during the day are huge and maybe that's why your and your doctor's scale have that difference...

shooster: I'll try to eat something before special occasions! -- I usually eat healthy snacks, I have sooo many time that I haven't eaten any chocolate or candy just for fun of cravings, I've learned how to handle the junk food thing, that makes feel really good, yesterday was the first time that I got an emotional eating, and well.. yeah.. sometimes we all have those slips so, I gotta forgive my self and keep focus in my goal..!

Good luck everyone!! Keep the motivation =)!

maru29: I've noticed I can be an emotional eater too. I had a really crazy emotional day yesterday (don't know why) and ended up eating much more than I meant to (still slightly under 2000 calories I think though). Oh well, it happens! Luckily we didn't have anything in the house particularly junk-foody so I had stuff like toast, whole wheat French bread with spinach dip, not too bad but high carb I guess.

Hey there yvesta and motivated4life! Welcome.. I've never been 100 at 5'1 so no pictures to share, I would like to be though.. Maybe this site will be helpful? -> http://www.cockeyed.com/photos/bodies/heightw eight.shtml   I have friends who are 5'2 98 lbs and 5'0-1 107 if either pictures might be helpful.

I'm not sure what to do about special occasions. My friends always want to go out to delicious but very very high cal Mexican food places. I'm thinking maybe I'll just eat half of something and try to eat light the rest of the day.

Sorry to bring the thread down, but I'm so frustrated.. I've only lost 1 and a half lbs in two weeks and I've been eating pretty well and working out like 4 times a week! I feel like I should have dropped like 4 lbs at least. It's like my body is fighting me, and I'm eating like 1300 calories.. I'm still stuck above 120 lbs. :(

Can anyone tell me why my calorie burn meter jumped from 1889 to 1900 without me updating it?  It happened while I've been on the site posting.

Hey! I hope there's still room for another shortie. I'm 5' and currently weigh 170lbs. Lol, I know, it's sad, but I'm working on it! I'm hoping to get down to 104lbs. However, if I get to 115lbs and feel/look healthy, I may just stop there.

I started at 194lbs and it's been a very long and difficult journey to get to where I am now. Some days, I just feel like giving up... Hopefully, I can find some support here. =)

Are there any other shorties with a rather large amount of weight to lose?

Hello girls!

nece: At least you ate healthy things, it's better when you overeat food like that than eat chocolates or candies for cravings or feelings; so we're a good emotional eaters aren't we? Wink It's better let it go, if it happened.. well, there's nothing you can do about it, just get over it and keep with your diet.. Hope we don't have any other episode from emotional eating =) And I LOOOOVE Mexican food too!! Mexican food and sushi are my passion! <3.. I understand your frustration, try another week, if there's no result maybe you could try with some crash? Upper your calories one day o don't do too much exercise and maybe you'll broke the plateau and start to loose again.. Good luck!

meekalo: Your burn meter is always moving, it goes up during the day, at 1 am it says like 100 calories and then, at night it says something like 1600-2000, it's kind of what have you burned during the day, and if you log exercise it will be upper..

infiniteheart: Welcome! :D There's always place here!! Don't give up!! Don't think even about it! You can reach your goal, we're here to support each other.. If you give up now, you'll gain weight back! It's for you, for your health, for the way you feel.. I know it's difficult, we all know, but keep the motivation, if you don't give up, could be a little bit harsh but you'll reach your goal and then you'll feel really really happy!

Good luck eveyone! :D

I'm 4'11, so I'm two inches short of 5'1 - but there's two pictures of me before I went to university at about 95 pounds. (university = 20-25 pound weight gain) Ideally, I'd like to return to this figure. :)

CAn't find my 16 year old pic (which means it's on my other computer in Belgium and not on my desktop here:P)

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f11/shooshi 2002/178-1.jpg

But this is a rather recent one from April, and that is at about..106-110lbs (I'm at that weight right now too)

Kamtastic, you look great in those photos:)

*agrees with nece and maru* If you're gonna crave and eat..then eat healthy...not my magnums :P

Although I wouldn't have crossed 1200 cal without them xD

Welcome infiniteloss. Congrats on your weight loss! Every lb is damn hard, lol.

maru- I love sushi too! Except I'm vegetarian so I just have veggie rolls.. But they're soo good. I worry about the sodium in soy sauce though. I miss Mexican food the most, I only had it once this month! My family is always ordering from this really good local place and trying to pressure me into delicious 1000 calorie quesadillas. No thank you! Hehe

shooster your link doesn't work. :(

kamtastic you look good! I wonder if my boobs will go away when I lose weight.. They're 34D lol! I wouldn't mind being a C or B at all.

I am probably giving myself too much credit, I hadn't been counting my calories very closely. Well I've finally made a little progress (121 lbs today! 7 lb loss total so far) and I am going to write down everything I eat and hit the gym today! I have been keeping within my calorie limit but probably not eating the "right" foods. You guys are right I guess its better to eat healthy foods.. I would have except we didnt have any luckily! Lol

motivated4life- Here are a couple of my friends, the one on the left is 5'2 and 95 lbs (I think. She has a super fast metabolism, she never works out and eats a lot of food) and the one on the right is 5'0 or 5'1 and 105 lbs (the one in the middle is like 5'6 so ignore her but shes 126 lbs if you wanted to know) http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2 p/v231/131/47/1034130020/n1034130020_60493_54 54.jpg

Btw how much do you guys think Rachel Bilson weighs? I think she's 5'1

O.K. Girls - I have to make a confession. I fell off the bandwagon. I went on vacation and could not track my calories. I only had the opportunity to walk/run 1 day and only golfed 9 holes because it rained EVERY day - ugh. As if the rain was not insult to injury alone, I returned tonight (after a 12 hour drive) to step on the scale and see that I gained 6 pounds!!!

YIKES! I am hoping that a couple of those lbs. are due to the fact that I am in the middle of my monthly cycle coupled with the fact that I ate something "bad" and had to take Imodium yesterday. Needless to say, I have not gone #2 since taking that. I feel better, but very bloated.

I am hoping things will look better in a few days.

Bottom line, I have a lot of calorie counting and exercise to do to fix my dilemma!!

Hello girls!

kamtastic: You look great in your photos! I'm sure you can get that look again! Go for it! =)

shooster: I can't see your picture either..

nece: I would prefer that you haven't said how much calories does the quesadillas has, hehe.. I love quesadillas, but yeah.. For our in-shape-bodies we have to restrict a little bit those delicious things..! And I don't know how much Rachel weight is, but she has a great body!!

smassuci: Usually those are the recompenses from a nice vacation, but don't worry too much, you'll loose it soon, just go to the gym and eat right and you'll drop off quickly! Good luck!

Tomorrow I'll get my vacations too.. I'll be out for 1 month, I'll came here every time I can to see your process and tell you a little bit about mine; I'll keep my goal on my main to avoid gain weight, wish me luck! See you girls!

Thanks for the compliments about the pictures, as I said, they were taken about a year/ a year and a half ago; before my rapid weight gain (25 pounds+ at my most) due to university. I want to get back to being my thin self before seeing my cousin in febuary.

Recently, I've been a little disappointed in myself. I'm actually very mathematical about how I tackle weight loss (as I am a math student) and I usually eat about 1200-1300 calories and have a 600-750 defecit. However, I've only been losing half a pound a week instead of the full pound.

Perhaps I'm over-estimating my calories burned? :( that just makes me sad since I work out about an hour/ an hour and a half to get my defecit - I don't think I have anymore time for working out. :S

Some people just lose weight more slowly than others. I'm not really sure why, though.

Maybe you aren't eating enough. If you're working out for 1hr - 1.5hrs every day, you should probably be eating around 1400-1500 calories. Maybe you could try increasing the amount of calories you eat for a week.

In any case, losing 0.5lbs a week is much better than losing 0lbs (or gaining weight).

Good luck!

like infinite said kam, you should try adding a few cal, or changing your workout a bit just too change routine:)

maybe your body is just used to it?

i seem to be stuck at 52kg..but i'm losing cms..

this week i've started adding different foods to my diet..make sure protein and carbs are in same meals:) maybe you just need to try eat diff stuff? just for a change?

as for the pic, i have no idea why it wont link...

gonna tryx again, apologies if it wont work:P
