Short girls here - around 5 feet!
Well I seem to have no one to talk to since I'm one of the few out there. I'm around 5'1". Currently I weigh about 126 - 127 (except for right now because I'm ready to start). Anyway, how does everyone handle food intake, calories consumed and the weight charts we are supposed to go by? I feel like we constantly get the short end of the stick. Now this website gives me a decent amount of calories to maintain my weight but I'm obviously trying to lose 11 pounds (when I'm at the weight of 126) so I will be at 115. I know they say not to drop below 1200 pounds but do you think that applies to us short people? How hard is it for you to drop the pounds?
hi,I know I'm a little late but hopefully not too late to join this great shorties' group.I am 20,greek and currently 119 pounds down from 160.
I have always moaned about being short-5'2 but the truth is,weight loss appears sooner and greater on us.And in the end we can always wear high heels.:p My GW is 52kgs or 115 pounds, which I will reach,if everything goes as usual and according to plan by the end of September-start of Octomber.I usually lose 1-2 kgs a month(2-4 pounds) which judging from all the above it may sound too little for you,but I keep telling myself slow and steady wins the race.:) I think after reaching 115 pounds,I will stop going by the scale and start going by body fat.I have 24% (down from around 35%!I know, too much lol ) which it's borderline normal.
I want a flat tummy, and to be more toned so that's my basic goal nowadays.I wish you all good luck and always keep trying. You're going to get there in the end!:)
congrats on the weight loss dimitra!
As for me, I've had a really bad day. I thought I could control myself when my mom took me to an all-you-can eat restaurant and I couldn't. :(
Now I'll have to work extra, extra hard.
thanx kamtastic!:) Good luck to you too!
Hey,it was just a day,not big deal!Just don't weigh yourself tomorrow morning so as not to get dissapointed from the water retention.:p
Tomorrow it's always a new day,a new start.:) ..Also,maybe this "bad" day can actually turn out to be good.Personally I have found, that such "feasts" can boost my metabolism,so if the next days I am back to normal and I don't pig out again,I end up losing lbs!:) I hope this will be for you too.
My personal trainer lectured me today after we did a body comp test and it showed that I actually weighed 4 pounds more than last month. :( I guess all the eating out with friends and getting lazy was showing, but I didn't think it would show that much... :S
I had a good work out today, and I guess I have to stay more consistant with that. Also, I'm in summer school and my exam is 8 hours from now so I'm trying to restrain myself from eating the bad food. (when I get stressed, I always reach for the sweets)
+sigh+ being a short girl's rough since 10-20 pounds really shows on a 5 foot frame! It's also a lot harder to lose the weight since we can't restrict our calories too much.
I hope everyone's doing well! :D
dang about the 4lbs kamtastiuc, and g luck with exams, mine start tuesday :P
i cant count calories cos i'm not eating food made b< me and it would be too complicated to try and calculate it all, however i just lost another 1lbs and 1cm, so i must be doing something right :P
I finally lost another 1/2 a lb! Down to 120.5... Soo close to the teens!
bah! i've been slacking due to some problems in life regarding fianances and school - i'm a big emotional eater. :(
but, i am still weighing myself every day and i try to write everything down. i'm just slacking on the exercise. :(
hope everyone's doing okay. :D
grats nece!!!!
kam i can relate, exams are upon me so it's less sleep, less exercise and more junk food :P
hey everyone. I am 5'0 and right now about 150. I am 26 and a nother of a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy. when i was 9 months preg with daughter i weighed 110...nice! when i gave birth ileft the hospital in size 3 and weighing about 95 lbs. wonderful. son was different story. i weighed about 175 at 9 months and when left hospital about 160 and since then (two years ago) i am only down to about 150. disgusting. it will not go away. i gained in stomach thighs arms and even my ankles. i hate it. its depressing. i literally have pictures of my self at 22 all around my house with a label saying "look how good this is and YOU HAD A BABY TWO MONTHS BEFORE THIS PHOTO" so thats my :motivation: so to speak. I need to lose weight big time, but i need to lose quick because im losing all grasp of me and i hate it. im seriously sometimes at the point wherer im like, i dont even care if im fat forever but then i see people that have kids my own kids age and im like, oh my goodness i need to get back to it. i need motivation big time. someone tell me a guideline, like give me a challenge, dont suggest, say, Jesi - lose 2 pounds this week, or got to the gym on mon wed fri. I think i just need to be talked to like a 5 year old because apparently i am not very good at self motivation

I'm 5"0 and 23 years old - CW: 136 GW: 114.
Find it extremely hard to lose weight, but my main focus is eating healthy. Haven't really got the exercise thing happening regularly yet and was thwarted in my efforts by getting sick.
Oh well, back on track this week.
Jesi - You CAN do this!
1. Set small goals.
2. Start with finding out how many calories you need to eat each day and start tracking it here on this website.
3. Find out where the majority of your calories are coming from and try to find healthier alternatives.
4. Join the YMCA. I started taking classes last Fall adn that helped me feel so much better about myself. It gave me more energy which helped to motivate me to start working out more. Also, mine offers free babysitting services. So don't let your kids hinder you. Call around and find out the specials at local gyms. Fall is a great time to get a great deal on a membership.
BTW, I wish I had know that gyms offered free child care services. I felt trapped with my two for a long time. I have 2 kids, 15 mos. apart. They are now ages 5 and 6. Getting in a workout (even now) without the kids is a nice break!
Good luck!
Sue

Hi all!! I am new here, just signed up today in fact!
I am 4'11 and weighing in at 162. Bad, I know!!! I just really need motivation and to know that there are other girls out there in the same position as me. It seems so hard to loose weight, but I know that it is possible.
If anyone has any pointers or what as worked for me, let me know PLEASE!!! It will be greatly appreciated, and if I ever have the chance, I will return the favor.

Goal weight- 110
Goal weight for Sept. 4th- 159
Looking forward to hearing from everyone!
Hi rievesd,
My first suggestion is to simply start tracking your food intake with this website. I found it to be a very eye-opening experience.
From there, make the necessary changes to stay within your daily caloric needs. Hope this helps you get started!

Hi, newbie here :) Add me to the list of vertically challenged... I was wondering if you gals could help me out here.
Stats - 24 yrs, 5'2, currently 118 lbs, aiming for 100lbs which was my weight at 20-21.
I've been on a pretty strict diet regimen for the past 5 weeks. My typical day food/exercise wise is as follows:
1.15 hrs of exercise a day, 6 days a week
Days are alternated between cardio (50 mins every other day - running, interval training) and pairing 20 mins of cardio with 55 mins of strength/core training.
I'm an early riser, so I exercise first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Non-fat yoghurt for breakfast (48 cals). For lunch I usually have half a sandwich (est 200 cals)
For afternoon snacks I have a combination of: apples (80 cals) + dark chocolate (60 cals) + fruit bar (70 cals) + slice of non-fat laughing cow cheese (50 cals). Dinner usually consists of some combination of lean protein with legumes/veggies.I would guess around 300-400 cals, total. I usually end the night with a single kiwi for desert.
It usually brings me to est. 1000 cals consumed a day.
I seem to have hit a plateau, although I'm not sure if that's due to muscle replacing fat or that my body has hit starvation mode (which I doubt, but I'm out of ideas.) I've employed this strategy before, 3 years ago, and had no trouble losing the weight then although I wasn't working out as strenuously and frequently as I am now... which is ironic =/
A bit of background - I was formerly a national gymnast, so my body tends to bulk really easily (hence why I tend to avoid heavy weights in strength training, and stick to repetitions). I don't know whether my metabolism has declined severely in the past 3 yrs or something, but I'm... stumped for lack of a better word. I've lost maybe 2 lbs in the past month, whereas in the past I've been used to 2lbs per week, especially given all the weight fluctuations throughout college.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
I'm also 5'1 (i round up ;) and currently weigh 117-118. I'm happiest at 108, so im trying to lose a few lbs. Honestly (and no one yell at me for this) I agree our bodies probably need around 1200 calories to function but usually in a day I shoot for about 1000. The extra 200 calories ALWAYS find a way to sneak in, and then some. That way I dont go over. I definitely plateau when I'm not working out too, so maybe up your cardio.
Also, I had a friend who is a nutritionist tell me to focus your meal around vegetables, then protein and good fats. The carbs should be the last thing you think of or put on your plate. That plus taking fiber and a multivitamin daily make you FEEL better, even if you aren't at your goal weight yet.
Hope that helps!
