Short girls (5'4" and under) with a significant amount of weight to lose! (40+)

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone,

I'm 5'0" and I currently weigh 175. I know there is another short girls thread, but most of them seem to already weigh 120.

So anyway, I need some big time motivation. Weekly weigh ins, advice, encouragement, etc....and I'm betting that some of you out there could do the same.

So how about it?

Hi,

I'm in, I am 48, soon to be 49 in September, and I am 4' 9", and when I started on the 27 July Iwas 210 lbs, now I am 199. Trying to count calories and for the first time in my life be serious about losing weight and using a gym 3x a week.

Like many of you have gained and lost the same 50-100 lbs several times - Jenny Craig, Slimming World, Lighterlife - etc Seem to get down there and then have trouble maintaing after a 6 months to a year. Life and chocolate get in the way. I am an emotional stress eater.

However, decided its time I stopped givingmy self excuses, my age, I comfort eat, blah, blah blah you all know the excuses we use.

This time its for fitness, and I am now a grandmother and I would like to see my grandson play footy, school plays, the prom etc, and to do that I need to be here and be healthy and fit, not fat, sick and nearly 6 foot under.

My motivation is high, the calorie count is 1500, and the gym is 3 times a week - with help and support I can be a slim trim fit  grandma - with energy to burn and lots of memories to make with grandchildren.

Good luck to us allKiss Mwah

I'm pumped for weigh in day!!!

OK my week to cry!   OMG my scale is usually heading down by the time I get to this partof the week.  At this point I might end up seeing a gain this Wednesday!   In reality I am fine with it because I am doing everything right and there is no way I ate enough for maintenance let alone to gain.  I am sure it is water retention.  I have been having more salty items this week and it appears to be my TOM too.  I noticed on my weight loss chart that I have a pattern of staying the same weight for a couple weeks in a rowevery 5-6 weeks or so.  So according to my last standstill this one is right on time.  I have pimples, headache, hunger and yes if you ask my husband I have probably been more b*tchy! (I can turn the last one on and off at will..lol)  I am sticking to my calories and exercising the same so it will all even out sooner or later, right?  Right? ........RIGHT!?!?!?!

I need a hug  :*(

(((hugs))) to halizabeth.

I am up 1 pound after much eating and little exercising during my family reunion time.  I am at 167.2 today, so I gotta fight for Wednesday's weigh in.  I finished up my treadmill jog/walk but I ate more than I should have, so....

Hugs!!!!!

Drink lots and lots of water. Even if you do see an increase, it's okay! It's perfectly justified by all of the reasons you gave.

So I chose to eat some ice cream after dinner tonight because I thought I had already gone over my goal (bad mind set, I know). But after logging, without the ice cream I would have been RIGHT on target! That'll teach me (hopefully).

Still excited for weigh in day though, because I know one day isn't going to set me back. :)

On another note, I made a REALLY yummy tomato pasta sauce from scratch, and it's pretty low cal, even though it has brown sugar and olive oil in it. :)

I am going to drink more water and cross my fingers.  I know it will all be fine in the end, I just don't know where or when the end is coming..lol

~~chanting~~"water, water go away, don't come back another day"

Good luck tomorrow everyone!

First to weigh in as always!

Last Week - 173.5

This Week - 169 !!!!!!!

Obviously I haven't really lost four and a half pounds this week, I've just lost the bloatedness and excess that I've gained over the last two weeks (or most of it anyway). This puts me just a pound up on what I was when the group started, which is a releif, given that over the last few weeks I've been to family parties, visited my family and eaten out with my little brothers at bad place (pizza hut.... to name just one) and pretty much had a week off for the beer festival because tipsy hollie can't say no to fish and chips, curry or pork scratchings....

So I'm feeling back on track!

This weeks mini goal - I'm always hungriest in the evening no matter how big a breakfast I eat, and I'm never hungry for snacks mid morning or afternoon, so I'm going to go back to what I was doing before all the manicness started, and shave as many calories off of my pre-dinner calories as I can. I don't mean cut down on the amount of food - I mean, have some crackers with lf cheese spread and an apple for breakfast at 200ish cals, and a low cal sandwich or chickpea salad or something for lunch at about 250 cals, plus a 100cal snack (like a bag of mini pretzels from M&S) so that I've got plenty of calories to spend on dinner and a late evening supper/snack.

Also I need to up my water intake. I always think i drink loads because I always have a water bottle on hand, but I finally figured out how to use my body fat measuring scale (too many buttons!!!) and my hydration level according to it is always in the low range of good (about 45%, and up to 60% is good) which may be why I'm so prone to bloatedness.

Hope everyone else had a good weigh in!

Went to camp for 5 days so im pretty happy that I lost, id have been happy staying the same lol...

...Good Luck everyone!

174 on the nose. That's up .6 from last week.  I am ok with that since I thought it was going to be a little worse than that (like up 1.5 or more).  I think the worse is over and this week should show a normal loss of 1-2 pounds by next wednesday.  I am still on the hunt to see 172 on the scale, maybe next week! :)  I am still doing cardio each day, and muscle training 3 times a week.

On the positive side I learned that I am eating too much sugar.  I thought I was a "healthy" eater since I don't eat much junk and read lables.  Well according to yesterdays stats I had345% of my daily sugar amt.  I almost fell off my chair.  I checked the rest of the month and most days are between 120%-150%, but some days are higher.  I am going to focus on sugar next.  I already knew some of the items I eat are high in sugar, but I didn't realize where all the hidden sugars were, so now I am going to reevaluate my diet.

Good job previous posters and good luck for those still to post.  :)

Last Wednesday: 188

Today: 189

With the convention in between, I'm pretty happy.  Oh, and my anniversary dinner last Tuesday.  I had a feeling eating prepared snacks and commercial food all weekend had some other effects, so I weighed myself Monday and Tuesday as well, and discovered: Monday, 191, Tuesday 190, today 189.  Huh, a little too much salt and rich foods?  Heh.

Today's our on-site company picnic thing, at which I'll get a BBQ chicken breast that's not got too much sauce.  With an extra half hour of walking due to events going on, I _might_ allow myself a bag of chips, depending on what kinds they have.  I'll try to resist the chocolate chip cookie. :)

I've been really trying to watch what I eat and making sure I'm getting lots of water.   I've been getting my exercise every day too.   Today might be a little bad later, because it's my B-day and I'm going to get a small cake from Wal-mart.  It's mostly for my little boy, but I'm going to have a piece of cake today.

Good job everyone.  Have a great day.

I am up due to pigging out and little exercise during my family reunion over the past 4 days.  So, I just need to get myself back on track and rehydrated (I drank little water as well).  Hoping for the number to go down by next weigh in.

I averaged my calorie intake over the past 15 days and got 1894.  I want to be around 1750 which seems like a good place for me to lose the pound a week I am striving for.  Last night I came in at 1837 as well.  We'll see what we can accomplish today.

Well, I think I'm this week's example of what NOT to do.  I'm really ashamed.  I have been under mucho stress this week.  Following my "what the heck?" gain mid-week, I totally lost my motivation and sabotaged myself.  I started making poor food choices.  Also did an embarrassing amount of emotional drinking on Sunday and Monday, which I haven't done in a long time.  I feel dreadful about my lack of self-control, and I'm really lucky I didn't gain more.

AND no exercise.  I did a lot on the apartment moving front (heavy lifting, carrying, etc.) and sweated like a pig for about an hour on Saturday, but that's it.

My mini-goal for this week is to get BACK ON TRACK with my eating.  No more than 1500 HEALTHY calories daily.  I have to remember that this is about my health, not just about what the scales say.

Way to go pbear123!  Thank you for the kind wish for my b-day.

beckabooey:  It'll be OK, just get back on the train and you'll do great.  Everybody falls off, so don't be ashamed of yourself.  Just drink a whole bunch of water to flush that stuff out.  Have a good week.

I am pleased to join.  I am 45yo, 164lbs and need to lose 30lbs.  I just started on this site today.  I seem to have tried everything, unsuccessfully. However, I am very determined.  The older I get the harder it is to budge the scales downward..

Boo. I guess I was kind of expecting it because I went back to work and it is always harder to eat better there than when I am off. I have to learn to take more low cal foods with me so I have more snacks but still low calorie.

Still working on finding the time for exercise. Oy!

As usual, I seem to be the last one to weigh in!

last week 168.6 - this week 170

this is on my home scale as opposed to LAWL where I usually weigh in M W F    My home scale is usually 1.5 lbs lighter than LAWL So...I am probably more like 171 or 172  boo-hoo!

My own fault though! Ate Sunday dinner at in laws, ham and scalloped potatoes, yum! It doesnt like me, though, too much sodium! I've upped my water intake to at least 80 oz per day, trying to flush all the sodium.

Yesterday took my daughter out to lunch at Applebee's, got a WW entree but it doesnt list sodium in the nut. facts. Then the family went to Olive Garden for dinner, didnt stick with the garden fare menu - went for the Chicken Gnocchi Veronese, only ate 1/2 the portion, but had big plate of salad and 1 breadstick.

I'm sure all the above were loaded with sodium. I can feel it in my hands, feet and joints.

All this as celebrating daughter's move in day at Drake University! Missed not only weigh in today, but also water aerobics class! Ugh!

Will check back in Friday, after an official weigh in and (hopefully) home cooked, healthy, low sodium, etc,etc couple of days of eating!

I need a hug, too! Miss Brianne already and it's only been 9 hrs since she left!
