Short girls (5'4" and under) with a significant amount of weight to lose! (40+)
Hey everyone,
I'm 5'0" and I currently weigh 175. I know there is another short girls thread, but most of them seem to already weigh 120.
So anyway, I need some big time motivation. Weekly weigh ins, advice, encouragement, etc....and I'm betting that some of you out there could do the same.
So how about it?
Oops, forgot to post that part, the most important part..lol Mine average out to 150 calories each half. By the time you refill them it is a pretty good amount. Sometimes I lose some potato skins by being over zealousin my scooping. It may be best to put it in the CC recipe builder to ensure your calorie amount are accurate. I also plan to use different meats in the future, they are so convenient for quick snacks too.
I really like the idea of measuring!
these are mine for the month of September.. I also noted how much I've lost since measuring at the beginning of August.. I haven't lost a ton of weight but it is really encouraging when I see that I am still losing inches!
Bust: 38.5" -- down 1.5"
Below bust: 31.5" -- down .5"
Waist: 31.25" -- down 1.75"
Hips: 39.5" -- down 1"
Leg: 25" -- down .5"
Above knee: left 17" --down 1" / right 17.5" -- down .5"
Arm: 12.5" -- down .5"
Love the idea of sharing recipes! ![]()
Here's is what I had for supper tonight! This is good enough to serve guests!
Nancy's "Healthier" Shrimp Scampi & Pasta - I modified the original recipe by reducing the olive oil to .25 c and replacing .25 c butter with light margarine, replaced the lost liquid with broth! This is super easy and super yummy, almost restaurant quality!(Original recipe was better than most restaurants, but not very healthy!)
This makes 6-8 1 C servings depends on how much shrimp you add. Takes about 30 minutes to make, waiting on the water to boil and cooking the pasta take the most time.
1/4 c olive oil
1/4 c light margarine ( I use Shedd's country crock w/vitamins cuz cc told me to try it and I liked it!)
2 T minced garlic ( the kind in a bottle cuz it's easy)
1/8 c lemon juice (ditto)
10.5 oz can chicken broth ( I use Campbell's low sodium soup)
1 C broccoli, chopped (You can leave this out if you want, not in the original recipe)
1 t freshly ground black pepper
1/4 c parmesan cheese (ya'll know the kind, in the green jar!)
1/4 c italian or plain bread crumbs (I've started using Ian's whole wheat planko{japanese bread crumbs} they are lower in sodium, fat, everything - but higher in fiber! Found 'em in the health food section of the local grocery)
2 T basil (I used fresh tonight. I grow it during summer, then dry it and use all yr long!)
1 to 1 1/2 lb frozen precooked shrimp (I've used fresh before, but too much work! I buy several bags when they're on sale and keep in freezer)
1 12 oz pkg Pasta, original recipe called for fettucine (I like to use Ronzoni Smart Pasta- rotini, higher fiber, less calories, etc, etc - or bowtie pasta, have used angel hair spaghetti, too)
This looks like a lot of ingredients but it's not really. Most things I already have in the cupboard or fridge. Once you make this recipe you'll want to make it again and again!
Start water to boil for pasta. Heat non-stick electric skillet on low. Melt oly and olive oil together, add garlic, lemon juice, pepper and broth. Add broccoli here, if using. Let simmer a few minutes (this is when I pull the shrimp out of the freezer and put in bowl of warm water, they defrost in just a minute or two. Then I pull the tails off - this is easy - but the hardest part of the recipe.) Add pasta to boiling water, cook per directions on package, drain. Add cheese, crumbs and basil. Mix well, add shrimp, mix well, add pasta.
Viola! You've got yourself a DELICIOUS and EASY meal. I usually serve with light bread, toasted with light oly and garlic powder, maybe a salad or lowfat cottage cheese. My son thinks it's better the next day, that's if we have any left-over!
I have had to "tweak" this recipe several times, to get it where I want it. The recipe analyzer doesnt recognize the broth, parmesan, planko, or pasta. I just do the math and add to the log to get nutrition facts. Let me know how you like it!![]()
Just did the the math for my version tonight (w/broccoli and bowtie pasta). Cals=471(pasta-441w/Ronzoni) tot fat=15.9(mostly good) sat fat=3.1 :) cholest=170(shrimp) carbs=50.6(pasta,once again) fiber= 3.0(7 if Ronzoni is used) sugar=2.1 protein=32.5 ;)
Wonder if this would be good with tofu spaghetti? Bought some from health food section at the grocery store. Saw it advertised for hungrygirl.com. Has anyone tried it yet?
Hey everyone!
I know it's not Wednesday....but as I stated before, now that school has started I can't weigh on on Wednesdays. But I wanted to check in anyway!
So, I haven't had a chance to workout since school started (other than the walking around campus exercise) which has been a bummer. I thought I'd be able to work it into my routine last week....and then I got eaten alive by mosquitos last weekend (I had over 50 bites!). This put me in extreme agony and I could barely make it through classes each day before I had to come home and soak in a cold tub to releive the pain and burning!
Thankfully, it's about done now, so my goal is 3 days next week (T, Th, Sat) to hit the gym.
In the meantime, even though i've been missing my workouts and stuff....I got on the scale this morning and I was 249.2 !!!!!!!!! (My last weigh in was 250.8). I haven't been below 250 in about 4 years. And...now I want to run and have a doctor's appointment....just so I can be below that 250 lb. chub on their scale!!!! This is one of those milestones I've been aching for! I'm about 10 lbs from fitting into a BUNCH of clothes I havne't workn in forever (which will be super helpful for the more professional image I am trying to portray now that I am in law school).
Anyways....I could hardly believe my eyes this morning...even got on the scale again to make sure it wasn't a mistake!
So I wanted to share...and congratulate everyone else on their lbs and inches lost!!!!
Hope everyone has a great and HEALTHY week!
loosingit, I haven't seen tofu speghetti yet, but I just had Brown Rice Pasta the other day. It was fine as a sub for white flour pasta, just takes longer to cook, 16-17 mins.
Jesusgirl, WTG getting under 250. :)
Measurment for Sept (170.8lbs):
Bust: 42&1/4
Ribcage: 34 (now everyone will know our bra sizes, rof)
Waist: 32
Hips: 41&1/4
Thigh: 23 (tape measurer pulled tight)
Above knee: 15&1/2
Arm: 12 (pulled tight)
Tofu spaghetti? Seriously????
As a proud Italian....I vehemently object. :-)
Seriosuly-that sounds wierd.
But I do love rice noodles...I think I'll see if I can find the brown rice ones and try them. Pasta is one of those things that is hard to give up...I could live on bread and pasta....(I'll thank my ancestors for that)....but it's one of those things I only treat myself to occassionally these days.
Someone is going to have to let us know how that tofughetti (is nothing sacred anymore????) comes out!
OH BTW I forgot to mention the Brown Rice Pasta was $4.00 for 16oz pacakage.. Yikes...
Figured id post my mesurements..eck! lol
Chest: 42"
Waist: 45"
Hips: 47"
Since the beginning on August (when I started) I have lost a total of 5" over all...so not to bad I guess.
Kinda dreading this weigh in as it is TTOM and I kinda went over 3 days since the last weigh in but I guess we will have to wait and see....Dun Dun Dun! :)
The tofu pasta - Shirataki - was quite good! I was surprised! I really liked it and will buy it again! I would recommend making sure you get all the liquid off, I just drained it and that wasn't enough, so next time I'll pat with paper towel. I don't remember what it cost though, I'll let ya know when I buy again.
Will look for brown rice pasta, as I too, like rice noodles.(No italian in me, but I still love pasta!)
Husband did measurements Sat night, and I won't tell what else!
Bust: 46"
under bust: 36"
waist: 39"
Hips: 41"
I know LAWL did measurements way back in Mar, then another time in July or Aug, don't remember exactly when, but I will get those today during weigh in and update.
halizabeth and loosingit, YAY for recipes!!! Thank you for posting these. Both sound really yummy and great ideas for when I want something quick and nutritious. I am adding them to my little food notebook! I seem to have the creativity of a thumbtack when it comes to cooking.
And jesusgirl, woooohoooo for reaching that milestone!
To follow suit, here are my current measurements:
Bust: 41.5" (the boobies, they're shrinking!
)
Underbust: 36"
Waist: 36"
Hips: 46" (that butt ain't goin' nowhere)
Thigh: 27" (nor are the thighs)
Calf: 15.5"
Measurements are cool. This is about 2 inches of progress all around since I first took measurements in early July. For some reason, that's even more encouraging than numbers on the scale, yeah? Man, my hips/butt/thighs are stubborn, though.
Sooo. I went to the mall yesterday because I absolutely cannot wear my plus-size 18 dress pants anymore. I've been putting this trip off in hopes of moving down to a regular 16 petite, but those are still a bit too snug. I did find a pair of plus-size 14 petites that fit well. I'm finally into regular sized XL/16 tops, but as I mentioned, the butt has its own zip code.
I HATE THE MALL!!! Hate, hate, hate it! Everytime I go there I am reminded that I will never, ever be able to dress in the fashionable clothes on the mannequins - no matter how thin I get - because I'm so short and... well, not a stick. I must resign myself to always hemming pants, shirtsleeves, and shirttails, not wearing the cool knee-length cardigan sweaters because they make me look like I'm carrying a small child on my lower back, etc.
My boyfriend says that this is how the mall "gets you." It shows you window after window of tiny mannequins wearing clothes that were never meant to fit anyone but models, and then BAM, it hits you with the food court to soften the emotional blow. He's so right. After walking around for about an hour getting more and more depressed about my body shape, the smell of Sbarro's fresh-baked pizza wafting into the corridor almost broke me down. But I prevailed. Go me.
Just had to rant a bit.
Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!
The only original measurement I have is natural waist - down from 37 to 35 (for the first time on Saturday - mainly I've been measuring 35.5 to 36).
Everyone is doing so awesome. :) I'll try to get the rest of my measurements this evening.
Becka - way to go on resisting Sbarro's at the mall!
And congrats on going down a size....isn't that awesome!?!?!? I'm wearing some jeans right now that are waaaay too big...and at one time were waaay too small. Love it!
As for looking like a mannequin....why would you want to!? I'll take my curves over their rib cages any day. :-) (Maybe a few less curves...or smaller curves or something....but curves nonetheless). Short girls rock. :-) I know the clothing manufacturer's dont make it easy for us....I too have to hem petites!!!!! But psh...why do I want to look like everyone else????
Don't get me wrong, I don't alwys believe what I just wrote...I just try to remind myself of the above when I get discouraged. :-)
Hope your week is amazing!
Posting my measurements as well which they were taken Aug 22/08
Waitst 42 2.5 lost
Bust 45 2.5 lost
Hips 47.5 1.5 lost
Thighs 25 2 lost
Arm 14 lost 2
Calf 16.5 stayed the same
Well at least I hope I am measuring in the right spots
Congrats on everyones progress.

Let me express myself.... I am having a "scale" moment lately that seems to be lasting too long for my happiness. I am keeping up with my exercise & counting calories, so it is either something with my body that will work itself out like water weight or I may have to do some adjusting in my calories & exercise to induce a weight loss. However I am not ready to do too much yet as I am hoping it is TTOM mixed with "crazy body" moment, so I decided to focus on the "non-scale" victories. I have been walking around my neighborhood and little by little I am adding in more hills which have been real easy to walk up compared to when I started my weight loss journey. I am real impressed at how much my cardio system has impoved with my exercise routine. I am also wearing clothes that I haven't been able to squeeze into in the past and they are not snug at all, BTW most of my clothes from before are getting too baggy to wear. I also see positive changes with my body when I look in the mirror, smaller toner legs, less tummy roll, arms that are more slender. I am very proud of myself for what I have accomplished and I look forward to the end results of my future efforts. All that being said this &$%#@*! scale better start moving downward before it starts moving vertically, as in across the room! Thanks for listening :)
Uggggggh.
Yesterday was an incredibly long day and I binged ate my way through the whole thing. I worked 9-5 at one job, and then 6:30-1:45 am at my other job. And now I work 9-5 again today, and then have baseball at 6:30. I"M TIRED.
Not expecting much once again for weigh in day. Not enough sleep plus too much food isn't going to reflect nicely.
My busy work schedule is also keeping me away from here! I haven't counted in quite a few days, because I just can't find time to sit down on the computer and do it! I try keeping a running tally in my head, but then I eat something difficult.
Good work everyone!
I'm not expecting a great result at this weeks weigh in either. On friday I was up 1lb and this weekend I haven't had chance to do any exercise other than a bit of housework and a bit of moving some heavy furniture about. Had spaghetti bolognaise on saturday with ciabatta bread and had chocolate on both saturday and sunday. I worked out like a demon all last week and during the week I find it really easy to eat extremely healthy so I'm praying that my slight gain on friday could possibly have been partly muscle gain. Yeah I'm clutching at straws but otherwise I think I'd cry! Dreading weigh in this week, feels like I'll never get out of the 170's :(
Just had to have a moment of glory here. *drumroll* I weighed 178 this morning!!! I have lost 17 pounds since I began! *bounces around the room* Maybe I have broken 180 for good! (It only took 3 freakin' weeks!)
That said... lynners, am I reading this correctly? You worked over 14 hours yesterday?! I can't imagine trying to log or having to plan meals/snacks with that kind of schedule. Not to mention the amount of energy your body needs to sustain itself over such a long period, whether you're sitting at a desk or running around a warehouse. Maybe you can try to fix at least one healthy snack (I LOVE peanut butter & banana sandwiches... they keep all day outside a fridge, fit in a purse, and really fill you up). And carry a mini-notebook to write down what you eat if you have a moment. Sometimes just seeing it on paper helps. I'm sending you lots of good vibes, my friend. Hang in there!
halizabeth, I HATE those "scale" moments! But way to go on getting fitter and losing inches. Sounds like you're doing great, no matter what your scale is telling you!
Way to go beckabooey! Congrats on losing 17 lbs. You know when that scale finally moves down a few notches it is a great feeling!
lynners: It can be so hard to keep track of everything when you are as busy as you are. Like beckabooey said, maybe you could keep a little notebook with you. Don't get discouraged though, you'll get there.
halizabeth: That scale will eventually move down! You're doing great.
linz 78: I too am dreading the weigh in this week. I was not good on Saturday and the scale showed it Sunday and Monday. I've been drinking boat loads of water though, hoping to flush out the extra sodium and fat I had from those 3 slices of thin-n-crispy Pizza Hut pepperoni pizza
. I'm still exercising every day so I hope it helps.
187 here. I've had some real problems motivating myself about my exercise this week. Will do better this week.
The other measurements: underbust 36, bust 40, hips... let's say 47. It's a tough area to get the right measurement for.
Thanks for the encouragement guys!
I chose to skip my slo pitch game tonight so I could catch up on some sleep and prepare some food with leftovers to take to work tomorrow, so that I stop eating the evil McDonalds next door! Even the relatively normal grilled chicken sandwich has 420 calories.
