Short girls (5'4" and under) with a significant amount of weight to lose! (40+)
Hey everyone,
I'm 5'0" and I currently weigh 175. I know there is another short girls thread, but most of them seem to already weigh 120.
So anyway, I need some big time motivation. Weekly weigh ins, advice, encouragement, etc....and I'm betting that some of you out there could do the same.
So how about it?
:::::::::biting nails::::::::::::
Haha, I'm biting my nails, too!
I just sat here and watched my dear boyfriend eat 2 homemade tacos and drink one of my most beloved beers.
But I managed to safely watch from the sidelines, so yay.
jesusgirl, thank you so much for the pep talk earlier this week. You're right... We're made the way we are, and the whole point is to get our bodies into the shape they're MEANT to be, not the shape that mall retailers think is cool. When I finally fit into those petite regular size 16 pants, I'll hem those babies with a cackle of glee!
Way to go, lynners, on prepping ahead and getting some MUCH needed rest!
See you ladies tomorrow.
So I weighed myself this morning (it's Wed already in Australia...sometimes I feel like I'm living in the future
lol. Anyway, I was down to 157.6! But I've been there for the past few days...hopefully that scale will start moving downward! I'm going on an 'adventure weekend' with my study abroad group this weekend to the rainforest and they always feed us really well, so I'm hoping maybe a weekend of not counting (but still being conscious and not over-doing it) will jump start things again. It's getting a little frustrating, b/c I'm seeing the numbers move on the scale, but not so much of a change in my body. Maybe a little bit in my face/neck/arms, but not where I really want it gone from
. A lot of people have said it took them 4-6 weeks to see a real change, so I'm trying to keep myself motivated to get to that point and hoping that it will happen!
Anyway, I've kept my past goal of pushing through the not-wanting-to-work-out stage, and I've been doing the "run 5K" challenge every other day. And lemme tell you, running in Australia weather is not exactly fun. But I will prevail! My new goal is to cut down on the carbs a bit...they are my weakness...I love bread/pasta. All of it. I'm always within my allowance for calories, so it's probably not too bad, but I'd just like to be a bit healthier and cut them down. It's really hard though eating in a dining hall all the time and most of the time never having any other option. I'll do my best though.
Good luck to everyone!!
I'm posting early as I did official weigh in Tuesday ***165.4***
yee-ha!! made my mini goal from last week! ok, not quite, but only .4 lb off. I'LL TAKE IT!!
Got all my measurements:
March B=48.5 W=44 H=46.5 T=23
July/Aug B=47 W=39 H=42 T=22
Sept   ; B=45   ; W=38 H=40 T=21
Wow!! Total of 18 inches lost! Hubby and I were using a belt, then measuring the belt, as I don't own a tape measure. The gals used a tape measure and their measurements were 1 " less on all areas.
When they measure they have you bend to the side to get where your natural waist is at; hips - bend again and the short arm side is where they measure for the hips; thigh - stand up straight, with arms at the side, make a fist, and the bottom of your hand is where they measure.
Hope that helps. ;)
I still look thick around the middle, that darn belly fat! I really need to get motivated to increase the exercise - I love the water aerobics and it's not hard to get myself to do it. Did miss Monday tho, rainy, cold, yucky day and I stayed home and caught up on laundry and cooked and cleaned all day. Would've had more fun at WA.
Jesusgirl- good to hear from you again! Awesome that you are able to tell the difference in the way the clothes fit. That is always a good sign, more so than the scales.
Beckabooey - YEAH!! Way to go breaking that 180 mark. I think that was the hardest one for me, too! Why can't you have homemade tacos? Use 99% fat free ground turkey instead of hamburger or use bocaburger. After adding the seasonings you can't tell the difference. ( ok, maybe you can with the boca) Also use 2% shredded cheese- about 1/4 cup for 2 tacos- a little goes a long way. Read somewhere that cheese is a seasoning not a food group! lol Cheese is one of my fav things, love the ooey, gooeyness of it all. But I always think of that saying when I use it and use it sparingly- for flavor. Don't know what to tell ya bout the beer, tho.
lynners- Way to go preplanning your lunches. I still struggle with planning ahead on my working days. As far as McDonalds goes - you're better off getting a small hamburger and a snack size fruit parfait (throw away the granola) than that chicken sandwich! Also, if you're not sodium sensitive, like me, Subway can make any sandwich into a salad. They're not too bad and they have at least 2 fat free dressings!
mrsmao- naughty, naughty on the Pizza Hut. lol Pepperoni is loaded with sodium, not to mention the fat! So is the crust, but good choice getting thin and crispy! Have you tried the canadian bacon and pineapple or canadian bacon and veggies? (canadian bacon has less sodium, but still high) You can also get a pizza half healthy and the other half pepperoni for the rest of the family. Just a suggestion. I haven't had Pizza Hut for ages and it sure sounds good! I make pita pizza, when I get the craving. ***I have a confession to make.*** Friday, my husband and I went to a chinese restaurant for dinner. (broke one of my mini-goals, maybe I'd be at 165.0, if I hadn't done that) I had the egg roll, crab rangoon, Kung Pao chicken, but limited myself to 1/3 c steamed rice. We have a place we go where they will accomadate me when I ask for no msg and a dry wok(means less oil). I also can get Sweet and Sour Chicken with no breading and no deep fat frying. Maybe your chinese place will do the same, it doesn't hurt to ask! ![]()
halizabeth- the scale will go down! Just keep up the good work. I really envy you your fortitude to exercise. Sad to say, I haven't walked Samantha Louise for I don't know how long. Started off pretty good, I think I did 4 or 5 days in a row. Just need that kick in the rear to get me out the door! Also, I really enjoy your sense of humor! I've even laughed out loud at some of your posts.
pbear- how did you loose so many inches so quickly? Whatever you're doing - it sure is working!
linz78- don't be so hard on yourself. If you have a bad day or two - start over the next day - Don't give up! This is a lifestyle change and changes are hard.
Has any one made the Shrimp Scampi and Pasta yet? I have a few more recipes to share if anyone is interested, but that one is probably the best!
Hope everyone has a great week and good luck with weigh in day. ![]()
whew, time for bed.
So its weigh in time again....last week I was at 172.6, this week 172.2. Not great but considering I was fully expecting a gain its a much better result than expected. I'm just praying I'll see the 160's soon!
This week - 200.0
Was hoping to see 199 but with the HORRIBLE eating ive done this past week and TOM im not surprised. Hopefully next week will be alot better.
Have a great day!
Last Week: I don't remember.
This Week: 171.
Definitely not where I want to be. I REALLY want to hit the 160's.
*I think I can I think I can I think I can*.
Last Week: 179.4
This Week: 178.4
A pound! A whole pound! *skips like a silly person* I knew that 178.0 yesterday was too good to be true, but still safely out of the 180s!
loosingit: That's some mega commitment and hard work to lose all those inches since March. Congrats! The tacos actually were made with lean turkey, but it was his "snack" (grrrr, men), and I'd already eaten my allotment for the day. And ohhh, cheese. You are talking my language. I could sit down and eat half a pound if I let myself (and used to). But you're right... it's an extra-special treat when you think of it as a seasoning.
oceangirl: That excursion sounds way exciting! I'm sure you'll be burning a lot of what you're eating. I'm in awe of anyone who even attempts the 5K challenge. Keep up the good work!
lynners: Those "tens" are so *$#&*@ hard to break. But you can, you can, you can!
Last week~ 171.4
This week~ 170.8,
a loss at a bit over 1/2 pound :) I am going to smile and keep my chin up, even though I saw this exact number back on Aug 29. I want to see 169 on my scale, I have been waiting so long to see it :\ Oh it's killing me lol
beckabooeyyour bf sounds like great support. I like him. :) Good job passing on the tacos (esp at night) & escaping the 80's
krilla, don't allow you mind to fool you into not exercising, it is amazing how it changes once you build the habit. I have a difficult time taking a day off. I really can't do it often. Even when I think in the morning "this will be a day off for me" by late morn-early afternoon I am itching to get in a workout. You just have to fake it till you make it. Keep on Keeping on! :)
ocean I know what you mean about changing. I finally see some real changes in myself the past 2 weeks after about 20 pounds (194-170). It does happen if we keep at it.
losingit thanks for the kind words! :D
I have been sticking with my Back to school ~ Back to walking SEPTEMBER Challenge and I am also doing the hundred push- up challenge . I do my elliptical for 40-60 minutes in addition to this on most days of the week so any second the fat will be falling off of me....."tick, tick, tick"" any minute...."tick, tick, tick, any day perhaps.
My current focus for nutrition is understanding my fat intake. My daily analysis usually says 50's for carbs, low 20's for protein and high 20's for fat. I am not positive what these numbers should be, but I recall something more like 20 for fat so I am on a mission to understand it. I do choose food that have the Omega fats so I am learning to make adjustments if necessary to change my fat amounts. I normally use 1% milk fat cheddar cheese for my salad, only use skim milk, never eat meat fat that is removable like skin and the fat that is visible, I choose white meat poultry, leaner cuts of pork and limit red meat to less than 1 a week, if that, low fat or no fat for just about every choice I have. I am trying to find the biggest culprit and cut it out of my diet to lower the fat portion of my stats, OR is it because my protein & carbs are too low that the ratios are off. Oh the torment of knowledge!
i just went back and got my weights from the previous weeks to help me see that I am losing at a good rate and hopefully it will keep my spirits up!

I do not know how I did this! After my pizza palooza I was hanging on to 191 and it didn't seem to want to budge. I did drink lots of water and exercised every day except Sunday.
I haven't taken any measurements yet. I'm almost scared to.
Keep plugging away everyone. We'll reach our destination some day!
July 23rd - 167
July 30 - 167.2

August 13 - 165
August 20 - 165
August 27 - 163.2
September 3 - 162.4
Today - 160.6
A 1.8 lbs loss.. Now, I am NOT complaining, however I have been struggling to get out of the 160's and I was really hoping to see 159 today...
I started swimming last week and it helped but this week I have been stuck in between 160.2 and 160.8... I actually saw 159.8 on the scale on Sunday and I was so excited! I decided to be cautious and weighed myself again only for the scale to read 160.2 and it's been like that ever since! I just want to see some change!
Good luck everyone else ~ we are really doing great and slowly but surely we will all get to where we want to be!
Morning Everyone
July 23
Last week 206.4
This Week 202.6
loosingit57 I have really only doing alot of walking with the dog. But all my walking consists of hills. I live at the bottom of a hill so either direction I go it is up hill. Which I think when I first moved here scared me due to the size of the hills and there was no way I was going to make it up the hills. Perhaps the dog pullig me up the hill has made my journey alot easier lol. I have my eliptical machine but I am not using it at much as I should, I find my toes go numb maybe I am using it wrong?
At the end of this month we are losing some contracts due to selling of the properties so my plan is to lift weights and do cardio with the hubby since we will both be home to motivate each other.
Nanette
mrsmao, great job staying in the 80's.
v_avila, you & I are running the same race just in different 10ths. :D
I got some answers to my earlier thoughts on the ratios of Carb/fats/proteins. It seems I am pretty much on target with the amounts. Depending on what exact place you get the info from it can vary a bit, but for the most part I feel satisfied.
SW - 166.8
LW- 167.4
Today - 167.2
My measurements are down for my hips and arms.
I made a REALLY yummy home made beef and barley stoup (stew cross soup) tonight that logs in around 370 cals per serving (about a cup and a half). If any one is interested in the recipe let me know!!
Crazy work schedule this week so it's been hard to keep up here and logging everything so I wasn't expecting a loss but I'll take it =)
My goal is to find easy lunch food that I can eat in the car in between clients/jobs. Right now I am struggling to find stuff that works. Salads are a pain and I am often not in a place that I can heat things up. Hmmmm - time to get creative.
Everyone is doing great!!
Finger food! Tried rolled up deli meats, an oz or so of cheese cut into cubes, carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumber slices...a lot of the time when I'm feeling lazy I'll just throw a bunch of things like that into the same tupperware container and voila! Easy lunch.
halizabeth - I am rooting for you to get into the 160's!! I would love to get out of the 160's soon but I could use the company for a while.. teehee... you'll get here in no time!!
I have been pushing myself really hard when swimming and I think I am retaining water because of it ... muscles healing and all that. I weighed myself today and the (evil) scale said 161.6.. blah! so I'm hoping it will be gone soon although my TOM is coming next week so it's likely the scale will go up instead of down... can't wait! LOL!
avial, save me a seat is section 160 please! :) Thanks
Ok I made my stuffed potatoes again. This time I used 8 oz. spinach & 16 oz. broccoli with a can of cream of celery soup and a 98% fat free can of cream of mushroom. I added 9 servings of low fat sour cream to my 5 pounds of baked potatoes. There were about 10 potatoes to start with, but once you start to scoop you lose some to over zealous scooping & also black spots on some potatoes. I toss in any of usable broken potato pieces, skin and all. In the end I have 13 halves left, lol out of 20 to start, so 5 serving is in small oven safe bowls. All said and done each very hefty serving is 178cals, 3.3fat, 219 sodium, 4 fiber, 5.2 protein. I freeze them and love to just grab and microwave one for a quick, filling small meal or snack of lovely vegetables! Of course this bring up a recent concern I heard about having to do with reheating starches. Something about breaking down the nutrients in them if you reheat it. Like any left over starch should be eaten cold. One step forward, two steps back, will I ever learn all this healthy crap! :D
Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that today I am down exactly 20 lbs.
I'm so excited!
