Short and Sweet
Hi everyone, I just sweated (or is that perspired) over a hot keyboard to type a post for another group, so I'm a little typed out. Until I figured out how to post (not too swift) I've not been able to talk to anyone about losing weight. After all how many times can you tell anyone who will listen, "Hey I've lost another pound!" without them looking at you funny. I'm Canadian, and started eating healthy and counting calories on January 1st, 2009. I've been following my own balanced eating plan, counting calories. My starting weight was 266 pounds and with grrrrrrrrrrreat difficulty I've now lost 53 pounds, exactly half way to my goal weight of 160. Calorie Count tells me I should reach my goal in October 2010. Let's hope it's sooner. I'm married, but my husband and I live in separate residences. Works for us, as we're getting along great and there's no fighting for the remote. I live in a small City 80 miles north of Toronto and love it. My member name of lovemytulip is based on the name of my teacup poodle Tulip. She is a rescue dog. She now lives with me (her mom) and her two step uncles, the cats, Fred and Barney. Fred is quite svelte but Barney takes after me, and consequently brings shame on the family. Just kidding! Like everyone else I have my weaknesses - sweets, etc. Also I have a bad habit of losing a couple of pounds, then splurging sufficiently to have to lose the same pounds twice. I'd love to hear from anyone wishing to communicate with me. A little girl like me shouldn't still be up at 1.21 a.m. so I have to go. Hope to hear from many other calorie counters. Mary
lovenmytulip, Glad to see you made it over. This is a fantastic group. I'm sure you will find that out for yourself soon.
G
yay welcome! You have acomplished SO MUCH already! You are on your way to your goal and won't be stopping.
This is a great group and we are happy to have you :)
Lovemytulip!
Welcome to a most wonderful and supportive group. I am sure you will find great support here and before you know it, at your goal weight.
You are doing great!!!! Keep it up!
Thank you kdh1221. You're right about not stopping, even though I am zig-zagging all the way. I can't stop, because I've given all my fat clothes to charity, and am left with only half a small closet of clothing, all new. Some of the clothes are not as yet my size but they will be. I've got another pair of jeans waiting in the wings, to eventually replace the several which have already left home. To spare myself some money, I travel to an adjacent City and sometimes buy at a consignment store. Not only are the clothes a fraction of the price of new clothes, the quality and styles are first class and are hard to find in all but the more exclusive stores. Read "expensive". On the eating front, I'm doing well the last few days, staying within my calorie count. Although I eat during any mood, not so much when I am happy as I am right now. The fact that the scale hasn't budged in 3 days, doesn't matter as I know it will soon. So I'm still 213 pounds. Calorie Count is a big help particularly reading the posts. Had a breakfast of steel-cut oats, with 1% milk and a 1/2 cup raspberries. Also had a golden delicious apple and my once a day cup of coffee. My I'm virtuous! Ahem. Bye for now.
Mary (Tulip's Mom),
How nice to meet you. Sounds like you are doing well. Half-way there, congrats. You just come on in here and weigh in with us every week and we'll be happy to crow with you over every pound!
Hi everyone, Another morning. Cold but bright here. I'm thoughtful this morning. Went out to supper to a Chinese restaurant down the street. I had stir fried tofu and vegetables, and ate half the plate - plate and all - they were not happy. It's hard to figure out the calories in that. I reckon the amount I ate came in at about 300 calories. Also went to the Y and did my work-out - someone keeps stealing the 3 pound weights (ha,ha) so I did 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, a 3/4 km. walk and stretches. But I was bad, bad. I ate 2 granola bars (100 calories each) and 2 cookies (220 calories total) during the day. By adding my calories less the work out I think I came out even. Today I weighed myself and lost the stunning amount of .03 pounds. That's it for the past 4 days. I'd like to join you for the weigh in. When's the big day? Mary
hey lovemytulip, sounds like you are doing gr8! some weigh in on Sun some on mon, (me lol) and some on Tues, so what ever works for you, we keep looking in and it does so help to chat with peeps that do understand. Keep up the good work look foward to seeing you in the funny papers :)
Gnashhh, grrrr, and misery. Would you let me know whether you received my message? I think I pushed the wrong buttons. Mary
Tried to thank you before, but my reply went astray. Note aggravation expressed in mine of the 18th at 17.42. You can be sure that you'll see me in the funnies. I'm shameless and will take any opportunity I can get!
Mary (tulip's Mom)
Part of the problem for last week may not only be the calories you ate, but the fact that Chinese food has a lot of salt (sodium). Make your own Chinese at home with Low sodium soy sauce...etc. Stir fry your own. You will definitely see the difference.
And you'll save money. You aren't going to come out ahead at the eat all you can buffets any more.
I order off the menu now (or get a take out buffet) so I can take half my food home without paying extra.
Unfortunately I found the first part of my post after reconstructing it. As you can see it has left a huge space, which I am unable to fix because I had already clicked the reply button. Apparently Fred the cat booted it to the bottom of the message box and my scrolling down did not reveal it. Mea culpa to all.
Hi texmom52. My cat has just wiped out the first part of this reply, so I'll try to reproduce it. He's been doing that a lot lately - must be going through a difficult time. You're right about the sodium. I forgot about that. I don't eat at buffets because all self-control vanishes. I'm so grateful that I did lose 2 pounds in total for last week which is more than I have experienced in a while. I have lots of veggies at home because I like them, and I think I'll grill some for lunch and dinnner. Thanks for the inspiration.
lol when I see that space first thing I thought was " I'm gonna lose thiiiiiiiiiiiis much weight"
Fried rice is so easy to make too! I used to cook thai foods and fried rice often. Low Sodium soy sauce tastes (imo) exactly the same and I switched to it several years ago. The prettiest colors and mixed scent is fresh broccoli and carrots being stir fried together!
Kdh,
Oooo that sounds really good right now, even if it is breakfast time. Hubby is on clear liquids for two days, I can fix whatever I want for myself, so that really sounds good. He hates both broccoli and carrots.
And lovemytulip - I think cats type quite a lot of the posts here.
Hi texmom52 and Kdh: I'm glad you took it so well, and so is Fred. I was sure I was going to be ex-communicated. I love both carrots and broccoli, and after I get through grilling my other veg today (onions, mushrooms and sweet peppers) I'll stir-fry the broccoli and carrots tomorrow. I just so happen to have the low sodium (Ha!) soy sauce in the frig so I'll apply that sparingly! We have a great Farmer's Market on Saturdays, so I'll replenish the larder accordingly. Tulip's mom. And by the way Tulip is quite disgusted this morning because she couldn't share my breakfast. Tulip's mom
lovemytulip,
Just that name makes me smile. I am new to this group as well and found your post to be uplifting. You are doing so great and you have an awesome attitude. Keep working with your thoughts, reminding yourself how good you will feel come October 2010. Have you been at goal weight before? I have never, not if you balance goal weight with your age. If that were the case maybe first grade I was at goal weight at 124lbs., ha ha. Seriously, keep your eye on the prize. Post a pic of your little tulip sometime. She sounds like a sweety.
Kdh,
Have you tried Splenda, do you think that would change the taste? I never use sugar in my stir fry or fried rice...I am wondering about it.
Oh its just a tiny bit, and I bet splenda would be fine, but I have never tried - being as I haven't made it since I bought spelnda :D
