I'm 5'1", consider myself a decent runner, etc. But my "comfy jog" pace for endurance runs in 5mph/12 minute mile. On race day I can bump it up to 6 mph, but that's a pretty fast pace for me. i know people who are 6 feet tall and can run 10 miles per hour.

Any other short folks jealous of people with longer legs? ;-)

i'm 5'10 and i get mad about running with people who are 6'4
I'm a lil over 6'3 and I can get it up to 10 mph if I all out sprint... But I can't keep that up for very long... I doubt I'd make it a mile...

I "comfy jog" at around 5mph, too...
I'm 5'1" as well.  My last 5k was 25:26 I believe, so I can technically do maybe a 8:30min/mile but most of the time it's 10min/mile for longer runs, like 8 miles.  I have a hard time running with tall folks who have long legs too.  Very jealous here.
I'm 6' tall and in an all out sprint I could hit 8 to 10mph... but then I'd burn out and fizzle.

Currently I run around 6mph on average.  That seems fast enough for me.   My wife is 5'4", and a former runner, and she runs at around 6mph as well.
I am totally with you!! I am 5'2" and when I first started running, I was able to go about 5mph. I've managed to work my way up to 6mph (which works out to a 10 minute mile) and am currently trying to get to a 9:30 minute mile. I feel like I'm sprinting my ass off at that speed (6.3 mph on the treadmill) and yet, I see other, taller folks with the treadmill going much faster and they look like they are on a casual jog!!
I run with my husband and his friend on the weekends - they are both nearly 6' tall and run a 6 minute mile (marathon pace - which I think is INSANE)!! They are kind enough to slow it down and run at my pace, but I find running with them helps me to speed up without even knowing it. We ran 8 miles this weekend in 1 hour and 9 minutes. The run felt really good, and was at a much faster pace than I'm used to.

I'm hoping to get to where I can run a 9 minute mile for a 10K race....but I'm a long ways away from that....I'll just keep chugging along, I don't imagine that I'll have some miraculous growth spurt at this point and grow longer legs :)
I am in the same league as fitnessfreak: 5'1.5" and I run at a 6 mph pace normally, getting up to 6.3 for races.  My best friend is about 5'8" and she runs SO much faster than I do!  My next goal is to run a 10K in 55 minutes, and I am far from it right now!  My last 10K I did in 59 minutes, but I blame it on the fact that I was in the very way back of the starting line, and it was so crowded I couldn't even start running for the first 10th of a mile.  Probably wasted almost a minute getting away from the pack.  Yeah.  That's what I blame it on.  Also the sun was in my eyes.  Hee!
I just ran 3 miles in about 34 minutes, but I was really burned out from a long day and hadn't eaten or drank much at all.
I think it all depends on how much and how hard you train.  I'm 5'9" and I can run a 6:00 minute mile (10 mph), but I train a lot and very hard.  I can run longer distances at a 7 minute mile (8.5 mph).  If you want to get faster times you have to put in the time and miles training.  Mix some sprinting in with you long runs to get faster.
I can also run very fast, but not for a very long time. I can do sprints at around 8 mph. I've been training for 6 MONTHS and I'm nervous about a 1.4 mile race coming up?

OK so way off topic, but: do you think I can do it?!
I can tell you one thing.  On race day you will run faster than when you train.  There is something about all those people being there and all the work you have put in that just makes you go faster and harder.  I am sure you can do it if you put in the time and effort.
Yeah but the taller you are the more weight you are moving, so I think it all shakes out in the end, no?  I am 5'7" and my comfy jog is very dependent on my weight.  At my current weight (very light for me) I jog around 6 mph, but if I go up even as much as 5 lbs, I see it in my time.  At 10 lbs heavier than I currently weigh my jog rate was 5.2 mph.

I am sure you will do great on race day!  the best thing about running is that you don't need to compare yourself to anyone else!  Just try to do your best!
I'm not a runner and certainly no expert on this but whenever I watch running on TV like the Boston or New York marathons it always seems like the little guy/gal wins.
when i ran my first race i was 5'8" and i beat a guy off 6'7" in the final 400 meter it was a 5 km and i ran it in 20 minutes. THE GUY MIGHT HAVE HAD BIGER LEGS BUT THAT DOESNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE RUNNING

In sprinting it might help only if all other conditions are forfilled and they never are. A lot of fast twitch muscle fibres, good flexibility, special tendons yeah sprinters have tendons so much more powerfull  and springy then normal people.

And in endurance running bigger people rarely are any better then smaller people the world record of the 5 km to H belongs to 5'4" -5'6" guys only the marathonweroldrecord holder is 6'.
HEight is only a plus if a lot of stuff is furfilled and mostly being tall is counteracting it. Like running completely depends on relative vo2max and smaller peope have bigger relative vo2max's generally(i sayd generally). Also being taller is harder in turning when you run.

the best 2 white runners i think now are alan webb 5'9 ish and craig mottram 6'2" ish they are well worth each other. So conclusion

Height in running doenst mather. Its what is inside you that mathers.

If it helps Im 6'3 and my friend that is 5'11 and 6'1 can run faster than me. Im a slow runner but I love being tall...
