Do your shorts ride up when you run?

Quote  |  Reply

Yes, that's me.  The girl that can't hit her stride because I am tugging at the shorts riding up my inner thighs.  I have tried body glide which is, in my opinion, similar to a glue stick; running shorts with the sewn-in undies; and running shorts that hit mid thigh.  I have resorted to wearing capris which stay in place and allow me to run comfortably but summer is approaching and frankly it's getting hot.  If  you have/had this problem, what did you do to resolve the issue.

I've experienced the same problem running in biking shorts.

My current solution: Wear longer, baggier shirts!

You could wear longer shorts or try a running skirt.

spandex, and a good playlist.

if you're rockin' out to good tunes you shouldn't even have to think about your shorts... they never cross my mind ;)

I wear the baggy mesh shorts and they are comfortable -- not exactly stylish, though.

i agree with valpal.  no need for style.  My favorites: i swiped a pair of my husband's mesh nike shorts--they're super breathable and b/c they're reversable, the material is too thick to get "caught up" anywhere it shouldn't be ;)

I have a pair of super light weight cotton shorts that must have some spandex in them.  They were really cheap shorts I bought 8 years ago and I wear them almost every time I run.  Anything else just rides up.  I get to the point where I just say "Oh well" and let them up where ever it is they may go!  Hopefully I don't get arrested for indecent exposure!  HAHAHA

Thank you everyone for your input.  After another run of tugging on my shorts, I am going to Sports Authority today.  I am going to try several of your suggestions.

Have a great weekend!

hey i run in lululemon spandex shorts - same problem....if i have to do sit ups and stretching etc at the gym i have to wear these since cotton are too lose...

my preference is cotton though if i'm just running - they don't ride up.  get some with an elastic wasteband...pretty good

I can't wear soccer shorts for this reason.  I wear running shorts (biking shorts)   and skorts.

I wear a running skirt, and have no issues! I would recommend them!

I knew this was going to be a problem for me since the top of my inner thighs rub when i run. My shorts ride up too.

I wouldn't care so much either but after 10k I get little red bumps on the inside of my upper thighs. :( can anything be done about that or just longer shorts? I was thinking of longer spandex ones under the loose ones i have now so i dont feel weird running in spandex shorts alone. (sadly style somewhats still matters to me)

I typically wear spandex (I like the under armour ones, good mid-thigh length), esp. on my long runs where I may be prone to chafing.  Despite logging tons on mileage I just have thighs that touch, boo.

At a marathon convention once I picked up this talc-powder type of anti-chaf stuff.  I have a feeling it might have been Nike?  Anyhow, I use the chafe stick and it works just fine, but my bf LOVED that stuff b/c since he is hairier than me he said it didn't feel like a glue stick!  Maybe look into that?  I can ask him if he remembers the brand!

Good luck and Happy Running!
