Shouldn't We Be Counting Calories From Fat??

Shouldn't those calories from fat be added to our total??  Also, should we be counting saturated fat separatly from total fat?  Thanks! Laughing

those calories are already included in the total calorie count

besides, it's not exclusively calories from fat that become fat on our bodies.  even calories that come from carbs or proteins will become fat on our bodies if we eat more than we burn.

 

When something lists calories from fat, those calories are already included in the calorie count. For example if a food's nutrition facts says 100 calories and then it says 27 calories from fat, It just means that of those 100 calories 27 are from fat.

The same thing applies to total fat and saturated fat (or trans fat, or monounsaturated fat). If a food has 6 grams of fat and 2 grams of saturated fat, it means 2 of those 6 fat grams are saturated fat.

You didn't ask about this one, but it works the same way. Carbs are generally broken down into sugar and fiber. If a food has 10 grams of carbs, 6 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of fiber, the grams of sugar and fiber are part of the total carb count, not in addition to it.

Ohhhh, wow.  I thought I was being extra good, but it turns out I was completely wrong!  No wonder I was so hungry, I was counting more calories than I was really eating.  Geez!  Thanks a lot for the clarification! Laughing
