I shouldn't pay attention to the scales

Quote  |  Reply

Yesterday morning I started the day at 58kg (around 128lbs for those playing with the imperial system) and I went totally naughty last night and had 5 pints at the pub after work...l I still was very good food wise with my super healthy lentil and bean curry but there's no denying the 800 odd calories from those pints!!

But then I started today at 59kg (understanding that I didn't really put on two pounds overnight) but after having a rather **** day involving having to lay off two people at work, I went to the pub and had 4 pints then a bottle of wine with a super yummy thai meal..........

So I totally blew my calorie allowance and am carrying massive amounts of water-weight from all the booze........so looking at the scales tonight, at 61kg - I know I didn't really put on 3kg in 36 hours!!

But I am determined to use this "fake-gain" as a motivator to eat right over the whole weekend and get up at 6am tomorrow and go to the gym!

Who's with me????

I do the scales twice a week and that is it...if I am watching the calories I could care less if the weight jumps up or down a pound or two..it happens.  Be it water retention or waste retention...you will have this happen.

But if you splurge like you did, once obviously due to stress in your job...sorry to hear that...I would not worry and just go back to your regular diet and exercise.  Your not that far off your target.

However if you find your in a plateau, then you will here me say this over and over...maybe it is time some waste removal:

To some people I am "Mr Colon Cleanse" because I tell everyone when they reach a plateau, are doing everything right..I say what else can you do?

Try an all natural food cleanse...switch to this diet feature for 3 to 5 days...no pills or expensive kits...it is natural food.  Your digestive system will do the job if that is the problem.  If after 5 days you see no change go back to your regular diet and try reducing calories,

The colon can hold a lot of waste and whenever I hit a plateau I do the cleanse and that kick starts my weight loss without changing what I had been doing. I feel we should have at least 2 bowel movements a day when losing weight.

So I tell people to try it..if it works let me know...so far I have had no one say it has not.

I don't disagree with you... I lost all my weight originally by following a natural detox diet. And its so yummy and energising too. Just very hard to follow if one is trying to maintain any kind of social life (waters and carrot sticks at the pub?!)

That said, I'm far from two bowel movements a day - and I eat a load of fibre. What's your thoughts on laxatives?

You don't need a detox diet or a 'cleanse' but if you've been drinking heavily for two days you should probably hide the corkscrew for a couple of weeks and eat/drink more sensibly from now one.  Alcohol messes up all kinds of things internally... Massive surge in insulin production, for one which means that your body stores rather than releases fat.  And your liver function will be impaired as well from the binge drinking.  Do remember in future that 2 units of alcohol (3 if you're male) a day is a safe level for good health...

It doesn't work.... That do for you?

I was once at 56kg, then I had a huge indian curry for dinner (I did drink about 1.5L of water though) and then I hopped on the scales and it read 60.2kg! I was ready to die!

However, the next day I was back to 57, and the day after, 56. So just dont stress, and use it as a learning curb, not something that has actually set you back!

I just wanted to say you are not alone.  I started eating too little calaries between 600 and 1000 per day as a 5.3 lady) and lost loads of weight very fast but then when I realised I was being rather dangerous and I in facvt needed more like 1,200 min per day I began eating more realistically.  As a result of this however I ahve added weight and found this really depressing.   Still I guess my body needs to get used to teh changes I am putting it through before it begins to lose again so I have to be patient.  Also I have to learn not to weigh myself daily as I have been as I know you can fluctuate.  From now on it will be once per week ONLY.....

Chin up mate and back to it! :o)
