30 Day Shred Calories and buddy??
hey all,
I have been doing the Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga, and after reading all the raves about the 30 day shred I decided to try that. I have had it for 2 weeks, but just got around to trying it this afternoon (i know, i know). I am planning on doing it everyday for the next 30 days.
I am wondering 2 things....
Anyone want to start the shred in the next couple days and be my 30 day shred buddy? We can check in daily for motivation and track our results. I don't care if you have around the same stats as me, but just so you know I am 24, 180lbs, 5'5. My goal weight is 140-150, and right now I am shooting for the 150.
Secondly, how many calories do you think you burn doing this workout. Right now I am on level one, but plan to go to level 2 and then 3 when I feel comfortable. How do you log the calories burned?
thanks!!
Hello ladies! Well...I took a little break as well Saturday and Sunday. But...when I weighed in this morning...I had lost two pounds!
Yeah me! I don't know if I will be able to do the shred tonight because my sandlot volleyball league starts. It is every Monday for the next 6 weeks..but because yesterday was a holiday, our first week starts tonight.
When I did the shred last night, the sweat wasn't dripping off my face the way it normally does...and I have gotten so much better at my push-ups. I have modified the punching bag one and started holding my weights. I just don't feel as if I am getting anything out of that particular move...but with the weights it makes it a little harder. I still want to punch Jill in the face...but it is a nice punch! Have a great week ladies.
Eve & Rozie,
Welcome back. I, too, gave myself the weekend off from Shredding, but worked out at the gym. Getting ready to walk out the door now for my hour of torture. Will Shred tonight after NCIS.
Congrats, Rozie on the weight loss!! The only way I feel something with the punching is to really suck in the gut and cross my punches just a tad farther than Jillian does. Then, I feel the results in the obliques. I like to punch at an old picture of myself at a heavier weight. It was taken in Dec '08 at a Christmas party. I had to wear all the undergarment hardware to look flat in the dress that I wore.
Will not weight until Friday, but went shopping for a friend for a graduation dress. Ended up buying 2 for myself--SIZE 10!!!!!! The dress I bought for my daughter's graduation on May 8th was a SIZE 12!!! AND I wasn't wearing the hardcore body shaping undergarments--it was all me and undies. Let me tell ya', that was a rush!!
So time to run off and kick some fat. Hope everyone has a good day. Talk at you all later.

J-Mom!!! That's so AWESOME!!!! I had to take a few days off because I was on vacation over the weekend, but I am jumping back on the wagon tomorrow! I am leaving for south america in 1.5 months and I am going to be HOT!
I started the 30 day shred yesterday and my legs are killing me. I have been working out religiously for the last 2 years, weights, walking, The Firm DVD, biking, swimming and nothing has hurt this much. I thought I was in pretty good shape but obviously I was wrong.
My upper body is fine, it is my legs and behind, anyone else experience this. I am afraid I will get started with it tonight and just fall down.
Hello, all!
I came across this thread when I was searching for the number of calories burned during the "30 Day Shred" workout, and you all seem so wonderfully supportive!
I had lost a good bit of weight myself over the holidays on the Atkins diet, but then got very VERY lazy over the past month and a half, and I have gained back a good deal of weight. It's my mistake, and I have to own it. The extra weight is just the burden I bear for being overly indulgent.
I bought my first bathroom scale since moving three years ago...and yesterday, I weighed myself for the first time in about seven months. If I weren't resigned to the fact I knew that I had put on some weight (the clothing that were all loose and falling off are starting to fit again!), I might have cried.
184.6 lbs., and I am only 5'5". I haven't been this heavy since I moved three years ago - when I had a starting weight of 250 lbs. (Depression will do that to a person.)
I started the 30 Day Shred a week ago, and I know I feel better about myself for it. I am hoping to just drop as much as I can as safely as possible as quickly as I can. I don't have a 'goal' weight, I just want to feel better about myself!
The workout has been kicking my butt, but I am determined to do this! I am still on level one, planning to move on every ten days (or whenever my body allows). I am doing it in the evening after I get home from work, and in the mornings, I am getting up at 5:00 to go jogging/walking (my endurance for running is awful!!)
We can do this! It is just mind over matter.
Welcome Dacis and Clangworthy,
This is a great group!! I love the 30 Day Shred, but it is a butt kicker. I am weak in the upper body strength, so the lower body stuff doesn't bother me near as much. I haven't done my Shred for tonight. I really need to, but I am pretty tired.
Will rest through NCIS; then try to Shred.
See you all tomorrow.
J-mom
Thanks for the welcome jehzimom I did my shred for the night and it was a bit easier then yesterday. I actually stopped a few times the first time but made it all the way through this time and luckily my heart didn't jump out of my chest like it threatened too. Hope you get to your shred jehzimom but if not there is always tomorrow.
Great success to all!!!!
OK,
Shred first thing this morning; L1D5. Got through the whole thing without pausing at all. I wish I could say it is easier, but I still really have to work at the pushups and the side lunges with arm raises. Both just kill the back of my arms. I really do not have any upper body strength.
Will go work out at the gym this afternoon. Yesterday I really pushed myself. May limit to a 5 mile walk on the treadmill. Depends if husband wants to go. If he wants to join me, I may elliptical and circuit train with weights. I am not great with weights. I used to be when I was younger, but then I had someone to workout with. This year my husband and I have tried to workout together, but never got past a couple of weeks. He likes to swim and lift weights. I like cardio and am constantly pushing myself. He is thin and in good shape, though, so his exercise regimen is for maintenance. I am trying to lose weight and burn fat. We end up exasperating each other and go back to working out alone.
Ate like a pig last night before going to bed. The salt cravings were overwhelming and I ended up eating 2 servings of baked Ruffles with salsa. Had a small glass of wine, too. I guess, truthfully, that wasn't so bad--I didn't eat all the Ruffles.
By the way, I tried the 70 cal chocolate cake recipe that I found on the forum. It is fabulous!! Tastes just like one of those small microwave cakes by Better Crocker, but only 70 calories and takes just 90 seconds to make. I drizzled a small amount of chocolate sauce on the top for "frosting". Very good and super easy.
Alright, weigh on Friday. I don't see tremendous change except in the abs. My gut continues to flatten. I can still pinch a good inch and a half, but that's nothing compared to what I could pinch.
Talk to you all later. Have a good day. I have a power point to complete for work, so I won't be back until evening.
Great job, ladies! (And thank you so much for the kind welcome, jehzimom!)
I did the shred last night, which left my hips feeling strangely like Jell-O this morning when I woke up.
I bought a pedometer yesterday after work to measure the recommended '10,000 steps a day' that people are supposed to walk. Instead of running this morning, I walked around my apartment complex to a) see how long a circuit of the complex was in distance, and b) see how many steps there are per circuit. Turns out my complex is just over a half mile around, and just over 1,000 steps each circuit! I walked ten circuits, with a little over 11,100 steps for the workout.
I walked from 5:15 - 6:55. My rump feels like it is being pulled up by marrionette strings!
Great job dacis and jehzimom, I am a little sore today but definately not as bad as the first time and I am working out the stiffness so I can shred again tonight.
So are you ladies also limiting your calorie intact, I recently lost 90+lbs and I am really trying to tone up.
Hello!! I own this DVD and have not started it yet.... has anyone seen results with this program. I really really need to do something. I am currently 5'3" and 168lbs... my goal is 135lb... would love to be less, but this is a start. Let me know if anyone has had success and also if anyone wants to team up for a bit of a support group. Thanks!!!!
Angi,
Come on and just join us now. I have only made it to Level 1 Day 5. I can get through it without dying, which is progress.
The first time through I couldn't hardly do it. I won't say that I "breeze" through, but I don't have to rest once. I still have trouble with the pushups and side lunges, but that will come with time. The best part, it's 200 calories in 26 minutes. That is great bang for the buck.
So, jump on board--sweat, grunt, and laugh with the rest of us.
J-mom
Welcome Angi, its great to have support. Like I told the other ladies its gets so much easier. Before you know it you'll be done with all 3 levels and looking for more intense workouts. One step at a time though. And remember always go at your own pace but always be consistent.Today I did Jillian's Trouble Zones ! Holy cow! 58 minutes! Weigh in ON Fri for me. Its been a week. I quit cold turkey. I was weighing myself every morning. I was becoming obsessed. Maybe we should all do weigh ins on the same days? NO Pain No Gain![]()

Hi Angi!
I am on Day 10, Level 1 of the Shred, and I don't see any results as far as what I look like, but how I feel is completely different in comparison to how I felt when I started. My energy and exertion has changed drastically. I had a lot of trouble the first couple of times I did the Shred, but it becomes easier when you work at it. It's just like Jillian says around "day four or five, I bet you notice a difference in your energy". I certainly did!
Just like J-mom, I have issues with the push-ups. I have a bad wrist, so I do as many as I can before I aggravate the injury.
The workout is great, though. I sweat a LOT with this one, and after I finish...I can't really do much else!
It's exhausting, but well worth it.
Tonight is my last night of Level 1! I think I am ready to start with Level 2 tomorrow!
P.S Angi, It does work... I went from 167 to 145 last year but I got lazy and gained it back for the winter. I only have myself to blame. I started again a little more intense workouts this time . I have to admit I felt her workouts were to short for me this time around . Its great for beginners though. Anyways, I started in March 172 pounds! Now I'm 158. I haven'tt checked since last FRI. Stat 5 ft 71/2 tall.![]()
Hi Eve,
Were you doing any other programs like extra cardio while you were doing the 30 day shred? (sorry if you've already answered this).
No problem, Last year I was just doing the 30 day shred , that's when I realized the full potential of my body. Keep in mind I had never worked out to anyone so intensely . I couldn't believe that I lost so much weight and tone up just by doing shred. I didn't even count calories like now. I just ate healthy. I cut out soda, sugar ,red meat ,chips ,whole milk and white bread.
Green tea they say helps burn fat during workouts . That's all I drink and water.
Now I do Jillian's troubles zones , Billy Blanks lower body boot camp and Jackie Warner 's 1 on 1 workout. I owe it all to Shred. There is no way I could do these workouts and feel so confident about the end results if I hadn't seen how a simple DVD could change my body. I'm 38 and have 3 kids so it has ot been easy. I'm sure there are moms out there that can relate. You tend to forget about yourself sometimes...
I don't do all those exercises in one day of course . I alternate so that my body doesn't get bored. Ex.
yesterday: Billy Blanks lower body boot camp.
today: Jillian's No more trouble zones
tomorrow: Her other video . Burn fat boost Metabolism
I think the above DVDs are for people that have gotten through the 30 day shred DVDs. They are much longer and more intense and I read some where that the Burns fat one ,burns 3hundred something calories
Keep in mind the body adapts very easy to repetition . So its very important to throw in some different stuff on different days if you can.
Wow Eve, you're 38 and you look like you're in your 20's so you must be doing something right
. I am almost done the 30 Day Shred and I was thinking about getting the Burn Fat Boost Metabolism dvd. Sometimes I will do 2 levels of the Shred back to back but not too often. I like mixing it up sometimes too. Which dvd do you like better - Trouble Zone or Boost Metabolism?
Thanks for the compliment. My oldest son will be 18 soon
.
On a lighter note lol. Let me see.... For burning those calories I like Boost Metabolism. There's no weights there and its a shorter workout 45 min I think . But you sweat like crazy which is good.
Toning wise , Troubles Zones of course its 55 min but it kicks my butt. I like both for different reasons. I use 4 pound weights for zones. At what weight did you start and how are you doing now.?If you finished its time to step it up to the harder workouts. Alternate that's what I do. ![]()
