30 Day Shred Calories and buddy??

Quote  |  Reply

hey all,

I have been doing the Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga, and after reading all the raves about the 30 day shred I decided to try that.  I have had it for 2 weeks, but just got around to trying it this afternoon (i know, i know).  I am planning on doing it everyday for the next 30 days.

I am wondering 2 things....

Anyone want to start the shred in the next couple days and be my 30 day shred buddy?  We can check in daily for motivation and track our results.  I don't care if you have around the same stats as me, but just so you know I am 24, 180lbs, 5'5. My goal weight is 140-150, and right now I am shooting for the 150.

Secondly, how many calories do you think you burn doing this workout.  Right now I am on level one, but plan to go to level 2 and then 3 when I feel comfortable.  How do you log the calories burned?

thanks!!

I'm glad to hear it gets easier. I did day 2 of Lvl 1 today, and I'm having a rough time with it. My calves are so sore they're actually rock hard! I had to walk half crooked up the stairs this afternoon when I did my laundry. It was miserable, but funny at the same time. I'm wondering how I'm going to get through tomorrow, but I AM going to get through it.. Calves, or no calves.

Congrats Eve :) and good luck with the BFBM work-out, I've heard it's pretty tough.

Just pace yourself. Remember it gets easier, by next week there should be no soreness just burning during the actual exercises which is completely normal. Next thing you know you will be on L2.  My thighs were sore yesterday from  Jillian's No More Trouble Zones, and I did some stretching with yoga. Then I did BFBM and took a Hot! bath and felt much better.  Good Luck and thanks . I'm starting a new exercise routine on Monday .Will still use Jillian's workouts in between though.Wink

Eve

Ok, I returned to work yesterday--it was alright. I did weigh yesterday and am down to 147.6 (a total of 6.4 lbs since I started). I set my next goal for 146 lbs--that puts me at a "normal" BMI.

Wanted to elliptical after work last night, but I forgot my shorts. Made Friday my rest day; have my shorts with me today. Wore my pedometer yesterday; only walked 6000 steps. Will try to bump up the mileage today.

Congrats everyone on their weight loss.

Ankle feels good again, but no Jillian until Monday. Will stick with Level 1 for a while longer.

Well, back to work. Check on you all tomorrow.

J-mom

Hey ladies,

I think I've started a bit later than most here, but I'm on Day 4 of the Shred.

I started on Level 1 of course, but then wondered if it would be enough of a workout, so I mixed it up with bits of 2 and 3......

I'm fine on the cardio parts, BUT the strength and abs, OMG, it's hell.

Does it really get easier? Please tell me it does Cry

I'm finding I ache all over and wonder if I should give it a day off.  I dont want to pull anything?!

I have been running each day as well, so today I'm going to just do Level 1 today and see if I ache so much tomorrow.

Anyone else find themselves swearing at Jillian by 20 mins in?! haha

Also, exercising indoors even with my windows open I get so hot, any tips for cooling?

Good luck for all,

Amy

Welcome Amy, Yes it does get easier. Before you know it you will be bored and breezing through L1 . Just don't do to much at once . The reason you are aching so much is because you just started not to mention you are mixing the levels up too soon. The DVD is designed to be done 1 level at a time when you begin,. Then you move up once you get stronger. When you are done with all levels if you feel strong enough then it's OK to mix up or even do all 3 if you can. Pace yourself, 1 day at a time. You will see the changes as you go along. I guarantee!

Good Luck and welcome,

Eve

Hi Eve,

thanks for your advice.  I just did Level 1 and breezed through it! Found myself shouting "come on" at the TV screen for more! ha ha.

Tomorrow I'm going to go back to my weekly running to work and back and stick to Level 1 until all the aches are gone.

Cheers again x

Happy Monday everyone!

I had to take the weekend off from working out to let my body recover.  Doing my morning walks, I have found that I am walking about 5.5 miles before I go upstairs, which has given me some pretty nasty blisters.Frown  I had to just give my feet a break and heal up a bit before jumping back in this morning.

But I did it! I woke up willingly this morning, well before my alarm (probably at about 4:45), and got ready and out the door a little early!  I really do like my walks.  It's almost like I have the world all to myself for just a little while.

I have also been doing daily weigh-ins at the same time every day since joining CC so I can have a good idea of my progress, just to see how the track goes.  I had a sudden drop in weight by Friday, then went back up by a pound, and then today, I have lost that pound plus 0.2 extra!  Wacky.  I'm not obsessing over every ounce I lose, but I am just trying to watch the trend as I change.  It is pretty interesting.

The good news, I am down to 181.0 today, from my starting weight of 184.6!

Tonight, I will do Level 1 Shred and then watch Level 2, most likely starting Level 2 tomorrow afternoon.  I find the Shred is a good way to work out the frustration from the workday!

Hey all!

Thanks for the welcome! I started the shred yesterday, level 1 of course. I thought I was in pretty decent shape. I mean I go to the gym and workout, etc., but this video is amazing. I have muscles hurting in areas I haven't felt hurt in a long time. I cannot believe that this video could do so much. I mean I know that Jillian is tough on TV, but geesh.  I am looking forward to seeing some great results, but I know it doesn't happen over night. Also, it is so important to eat correctly and take in enough water.

I am going to do the shred again this evening... today I am sure is going to be tough, since my muscles are still a bit sore. But No Pain, No Gain. I am tired of being lazy.  Thanks all for the wonderful posts and motivation. It is such a good feeling, knowing that you are not the only person struggling with weight/exercise issues.

Good luck everyone!

Welcome everyone who is new and good morning to my "old" friends,

Got back on the Shred today. Ankle is good. L1D5 felt really good. I noticed that I didn't huff and puff quite as much, and the sweat didn't drip in my eyes this time. I must be getting just about ready for L2. Think I will give L1 another week and then move up. I'm excited! This is real progress for me.

I did watch the metabolism DVD. I know I am not ready for that one yet. I think I could get through the first circuit, but the one with the squat things remind me of squat-thrusts that we did in high school. I wasn't good at those way back then, will probably not be much better now. I think I will stick with Eve's recommendation and move up when I can do L3 in the Shred.

Am feeling really good today. My first grad class opened up--it's an educational technologies course. We learn how to use email and instant messaging as part of a learning community. Should be fun. Have lots of reading to complete before next week, so I will be biking today at the gym. Can read and bike at the same time without too much comprehension loss. Am feeling some before school anxiety, but talking myself out of it. Stress causes weight gain, and I have decided to be focused and determined rather than anxious. Lots of deep breaths at my house today.

Planned to walk this morning, but when I left the house, gray clouds moved in. Just got to the house when the clouds opened. Had some great rain just dump on my yard and trees. So peaceful and soothing to watch.

Well, time to shower and get ready to go get my hair cut.

Will check in after my afternoon workout.

By the way, I have a question. My best friend is 100+ lbs overweight. I want to get her a new workout DVD that I think she will do. Do you think one of the biggest loser DVD's would be good. I don't think she would shred with us yet, but I thought the cardio might be a good motivator for her. Whatcha think?

J-mom

Hi J-mom!  Glad to see you are doing better, and congrats on the progress with the Shred!  And how awesome is it that you are going to grad school?!  That's something I definitely want to do.  What are you going to be studying?

I'm glad to hear you are being so supportive of your friend.  I think the "Biggest Loser" DVDs are a good idea - they design the show (and presumably the workouts) around the thought/fact that the people buying them are likely to be very overweight and looking to make a change in their lives.

Jillian was even saying in the Shred how she has 400-pound people doing jumping jacks!

I'm sure with a little bit of time to build up her endurance, she will be ready to Shred right along with the rest of us in no time!  Just remember that walking is also a good activity when trying to lose that much weight, and might help her speed up her endurance as well.

Granted, I am no doctor, but that's just my $0.02!

dacis,

I agree; I will get the DVD today--I think they have them at Target.

You asked about grad school. I am wanting to be a nursing instructor. I started back to school in 2003 from a BS in nursing (I had one in business), and then the master's. Have 5 classes to go including the 2 this semester. I am ready to be done!! Hope I can find a teaching job, then.

I like what I do, but it is really hard work. I would like weekends, holidays, and summers off. After 30 years of nursing, I think I have earned it.

Have a great day. I'll check back later.

J-mom

You definitely have earned that degree and the right to the time off, J-mom!  I know how it is to have to work weekends and holidays...I haven't spent the Christmas holiday with my family in about four or five years.  It sounds like you are making progress, though, with so few classes left.  That is really awesome!  I am a big supporter of furthering one's education.

Did you get the DVDs for your friend?  Has she tried them?

I hope everyone is doing alright!  I am doing a dual session with the Shred tonight, first with level one, then pushing and doing level 2!

Wish me luck!  Hopefully I won't burn TOO badly tomorrow...

Dacis,

I haven't shredded yet today. Went to the gym and ran/ walked for 5.1 mi, 77 minutes, average rate 3.9 mph. This is the best I have done. I usually average a 3.6 mph "run". I weigh tomorrow so I am putting the push on the old body to get another ounce or two off. Dropped under 146 yesterday, but back over today; want the <146 to stick this time.

Have not watched level 2 yet. May watch tonight-may just watch basketball with husband. Back to work tomorrow and weekend. Had a big meeting with boss and co-workers today. All is good. Am no longer stressed about work.

Glad to know that you are OK. Did not get to Target. Have tried to think how I could give her the DVD's without hurting her feelings. Still thinking about it.

Will check back later,

J-mom

Good job, J-mom!  I actually ended up not doing the Shred last night - I konked out around 8:30.   I'm going to try to do it tonight though.

I have had a victory, though!  I am down to 178lbs now, which is a totally different BMI bracket!  I feel great, very positive.

I'm starting to think that this time around trying to lose weight, my success is because I am truly dedicated to it, and this site is helping.  By walking, doing the Shred (when I don't pass out at 8:00 lol), and just eating smarter, it is making a HUGE difference!

As far as your friend, have you thought about having her as a workout buddy?  You could present the idea (and the DVDs) to her walking around target, just make it sound like you are mulling over the idea, and how you really would like someone that you know you can rely on for moral support.

It is a lot easier to start working out again if you have a friend there, and she might be more inclined (and less offended) if you present the idea in such a manner.  I know having a friend work out with me helped me on the long road to good health when I weighed 250lbs.  Hope that helps!

Hey girlies! I haven't been on in a while but I am still Shreding away!  I am on level 2 now and loving/hating every minute of it.  I haven't weighed in this week...a little scared for some reason... My boss brought Panera bagels in this morning...it is already 10 and I still haven't touched them...but the everything bagel is calling my name!  I checked their website and it has 300 calories, plain.  I should be a good girl and stick to my banana and cottage cheese considering I am having a Tastefully Simple party tomorrow and I am so going to fat it up!  Especially with the Tiki Mai Tai and Pomegranite Blueberry Margartia slushes!  Oh, Summer, why do you torture me with cookouts, cocktails and bathing suits?!Smile

I just went in the kitchen to get more water and I saw the bagels.... I WANT THAT BAGEL!

Hey Rozie, how are you/?

LoL, dont do it. Empty carbs and you will feel hungry later.

So have you done a weigh in? and how is it going wth shred. Did you get the BFBM DvD yet// ? Thats what Im going to do now. I did a weigh in today and I lost another 1lb. 154! Finally. My core is strong and I feel great . I know I have toned muscles in my stomach but I read that you have to do alot more Cardio to burn the fat so the muscles show. So thats what Im going to do now. BFBM. I want to sweat that fat off. Only (9 more pnds to go. But Im just going to focus on 4 pounds 150 then worry about the rest laterWink

Hey Daci,

Congrats! I to had a victory. 154!  You are so right, this site really helps. Keep up the good work and congrats . Very well deserved , I know its not easy with our busy schedules and all. Keep in mind there is nothing we cant do if we put our minds to it!

Well off to burn some more fat with some cardio BFBM and then tomorrow tone it with Trouble Zones.

Good luck to everyone and keep up the good work ladies.Wink

Rozie:  You crack me up!  It's National Doughnut Day, so naturally, there's a good two dozen doughnuts sitting in the office kitchen (and my office is the closest one to the kitchen).  It's absolutely cruel.  I haven't had food cravings/denied myself anything (within reason and calorie limit), but this is tough.

I never knew food could talk before now...odd.

I won't give in, though!  I've worked too hard to succumb.

Way to go Eve on your victory!! I can't wait to hit the marks you are right now, but I will take my time to get there - I am doing it RIGHT this time.  You are definitely a good example for me to follow.

And I don't know if any of you ladies have heard about these, but I found out about these "Slim-a-Bear" ice cream novelties from Klondike this past week.  They taste like a cheat, but are not!  Most of them are 100 cal/sv, and they are already pre-portioned, so they are guilt-free.

I was so happy when I found their ice cream sandwiches, I was literally dancing as I walked back to my office from the kitchen.

Two questions:  1) Does anyone else have trouble hitting their recommended calorie mark?  I am having issues.  I am supposed to eat up to 1700/day, but have only made it in the 1200 - 1500 range and been completely sated.  I'm not sure if this is bad or not, but I am not denying myself if I am hungry, yet I still stay below the mark!; and 2) Does anybody have a fun cardio-dancing DVD they could recommend that can give good results (and isn't just an 'oh, I am sorta dancing and not really burning calories' type of routine)?

Thanks for the help!  And keep up the amazing work, ladies!

Thankyou! My calorie mark is supposed to be like 1500 or 1400 . Because of weight and height I suppose. What I did was put mine at 1300 so if I go over a little its ok. I never go over 1400. Oh ! if you guys are in to snacks that are healthy and tasty I recommend: Edys fruit bars. Oh my god they are soooo good and only 80 calories.

Anonther one if you like ice cream is Skinny cow  cones. I think only 100 calories. You can google them if you like. The cones are the best.

Fruit bars. I lovvvvvvvvve the strawberry ones. I want one now! but my daughter ate the last one. I guess I have to act like it tastes bad so I can actually get some. lol

P.S this weekend I have to admit I had two pepperoni and fried chicken  slices of Pizza. Not to mention that it was mixed the pepp and chicken. But  boy was it good! I felt a little guilty but that  not much cause I still didnt go over my calorie intake of 1300.

lol I feel better now.Phewww thats a load off. lol

 later... Have a good day.
