30 day shred - Jillian Michaels

Quote  |  Reply

So this is the deal. This little piggy is now sick and tired of not loosing the weight. I decided to try Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred - great workout and sweating up a storm! Anybody else out there who have used this? When should you switch from level 1 to 2 ?

I tried it today for the first time and couldn't finish level one.  I am going to put it back on the shelf for two weeks then come back to it.  Good luck

I have it, I love it, I do it AT LEAST 5-6 times a week. I do all 3 levels depending on what I want to work on, or how I am feeling.

I think I did level 1 for 6 -7 days then moved to 2

Good Luck, I hope this helps..

Yep - I love it too!  I tend to very between levels one and 2 to mix it up a bit.  I haven't been brave enough to try level 3 yet as it scares me ;-)  I think the key is to up the level when you are ready (i.e. you no longer feel like you want to die when completing the level you're on!!)  I did level 1 for about 3 months before I started switching up &  although I only do the work out 3 times a week I still saw results :o)

I just started her workouts last week and I've done all three levels.  It's really up to you when you feel like upping your workout a bit.  You can always modify the harder exercises in levels 2 & 3.  I like the variety of doing different workouts on different days.  Today I started with level 3 and then did level 1.

I actually did all three levels the first time I tried it. Lmao. I'm just stupid like that. It is quite the workout! Reason I did all three, call it an OCD thing, but I always feel like I HAVE to finish what I started. I didn't want to switch to another dvd to get my hour in so I just did the whole thing. Now I tend to mix it up. (Doing it a lot all the way through I've discovered can cause injury.) I would highly say with no doubt that this is one of the best workout dvds I have ever done. It has all the key elements in it.

This video is tough and it really works.  Just stick with it and you will see results.  You should just switch levels when you're brave enough.  If it's too hard, just go back down.  I find there's a steep learning curve.  Once you get into the swing of things it does get a lot easier, believe it or not!

Can someone synopsize the workout?  Or point me to a good link on it?  It sounds interesting.

I love this DVD!  I bought it on Saturday at Target for $14 and have done it everyday since.  My muscles are sore EVERYWHERE....but a good sore.  The sore that says you are getting stronger!!  I plan on trying level 2 after 7 days.

lovlilynne ~ basically it's a 2 minutes of cardio (jumping jacks, jumping rope, punches, butt kicks) and 2 minutes of strength (push ups and some moves with weights) and 1 min of abs....repeated for 20 mins (hope that makes sense).  there is a brief warmup and cooldown.

It sounds like all of you were paid to come on here and promote her video, haha, I'm just kidding!  I think I am going to go buy it today.  I have been using my elliptical at home, but I'm kind of getting tired of it.  I think I am going to buy this today and try it!!  I can't wait!!

Do you guys think this workout is better than using an elliptical for 30 minutes?

Absolutely! and the main reason is because you are going to get stuck if you simply do cardio.  Weight/strength training in any form will be better than simply doing the elliptical!

I wish I was getting paid for it! Hahaha. :P Think I could arrange that with the makers of the dvd? :P ;)

I think this video and the elliptical are both great workouts. I don't think one is better then the other. Try to mix it up. :)

I saw one review on Amazon who complained that 1) she uses jumping jacks - it was pointed out that they are harsh for knees, back, etc.  2) this dvd is not for anyone who is not already in shape.

Would you agree with the reviewers?

yes, jumping jacks are done however I love when she says "if 400 lbs people can do jumping jacks so can you", and that is so true. However, if you actually have an injury already then I would modify your jacks to low impact. This little piggy has now been doing the shred for 3 days and I'm sore! But like someone else said, sore in a good way.  I already feel stronger and I've made it a goal to do it everyday for 30 days and after I finish that, I'll use it 5 days a week. So far down 3 pounds! :)

Edit:  Misread a previous post, never mind.

Thank you guys for the advice.  I just went out and bought the video over my lunch break!!  Are you guys just doing the 1, twenty minute workout a day, or are you doing anything else with it?

I also walk/run on my treadmill......today I walked 5 minutes (at 4mph) then ran 5 minutes (5mph) for 40 minutes.  Then I did the 30DS.  I try to at least get 30 minutes on my treadmill 5 days a week.

I walk my dog every day between 40 min - 1 hour and try to jog between 20-40 minutes a couple times a week (depending on how I feel, work etc). I think what I was lacking was the strength training, or at least that's what my muscles are telling me today :) I did level 1 for two days, and today tried level 2. It was tough but I think it will be good to mix them up a bit.

Just finished my first one.

My biggest complaint about the jumping jacks....

BOOBS!!!!

Very uncomfortable.

I guess in that regard I'm one of the lucky ones....or unlucky depends on how you look at it lol!  Will a good sports bra help?  Sorry I'm not much help...

I always feel sorry for those ladies on the biggest loser when their boobs are all over the place.....

I love this workout, but I'm wondering if I should be doing it everyday or resting a day in between.  It seems like I've read a lot of stuff that says you shouldn't do strength training two days in a row as your muscles need time to recover/rebuild....anyone have any opinions?
