Sick of Carrots!

Quote  |  Reply
Alright. I don't really need to lose weight exactly but I did put on a pair of my favorite jeans and my butt and thighs were too big.  SO, I decided to start eating healthier and exercising to kind of tone up and look better.  I went out and bought carrots and fat-free ranch dip and celery and peanut butter.  I also bought yogurt, granola bars with lots of fiber and protein, and weight control oatmeal.  I've been doing pretty well. I eat the serving sizes and I stay at my daily calorie allowance and then 3 times a week I do aerobics and weights and all that fun stuff.  The problem is that I'm incredibly sick of the food I'm eating.  But I'm clueless on what's healthy and gives me energy.  Is there something else I can eat that's healthy and is not horribly boring like carrots?  I know I should be eating veggies and fruits and all that, but there must be something besides that I can snack on if I want.  Any ideas?  Foods or recipes that you like?  Thank you!

Yogurt, oatmeal, rice cakes.
aww carrots are like my heart. i could eat those chopped, plain and cold all day. do you like cherry tomatoes? i think those sort of count as a vegetable...

you can snack on nuts and yogurt and flavored rice cakes. i love the white chedder and cinnamon toast (or something like that) by Quaker. maybe have some meal replacement bars in your favorite flavors. some are chocolate.

ummmm im low on ideas today but its definately good your seeking other alternatives to what youre eating since sometimes boredom in your foods can lead to binges and going off track.

do you eat salmon or tuna or shrimp? a few pieces of shrimp or a can of tuna can also serve as snack.

oh yes, sugar-free jello cups only have 5-10 calories!

some rice crackers aren't bad either.

tuna and flavored rice cakes sound like a good alternative.  I love tuna.  Anything that would give me energy too?  Tuna probably would but I'm thinking rice cakes would be good just for holding me over.  Does anyone have recipes or favorite snacks that give them energy?
Sick of carrots?  Then don't eat them!  The world is bountiful, and full of many healthy food choices.

Cherry tomatoes, cucumber, steamed yellow squash, corn, cabbage, zucchini, pears, plums, pineapple, apples, bananas, oranges, whole grain redused fat crackers like TLC and Triscuit, whole grain cereals, whole grain bread with a little fruit jam, low fat yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, low fat cheeses, string cheese, almonds, walnuts, brown rice cakes, wheat tortillas, GoLean whole grain waffles, shrimp, tuna, salmon, chicken breast, turkey breast...

I could go on and on.  Some of my favorite snacks are dry whole grain cereal, Reduced fat Triscuits and a Kraft fat free single, any veggie I can steam in the microwave, whole grain toast and jam, bananas, low fat yougurt snack packs, fat free chocolate pudding.  You have to mix it up.  I don't like raw carrots much, so I rarely eat them.  I like few vegetables raw, so I often pick things I can steam in the microwave, even for snacks.  If I need portable snacks, I usually take single servings of whole grain products, and almonds.  The important thing to do is to mix it up so that you don't get bored.
While I was looking around here on the forums, I saw someone suggest vitalicious muffins.  I couldn't find a store close to me that had them, so I ordered a sampler off their website - and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.

They have 100 calorie "muffin tops" in flavors like deep chocolate, blueberry, chocolate peanut butter chip, apple berry, and they are great with a glass of skim milk.  They also have brownies - only 100 calories - that's right ....100 calories.

They're all very good, and good for you - full of fiber and a lot of vitamins.  I highly recommend them.
