Sick and dont know what to do

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys. I have been feeling feverish for over 24 hours now (more like 36 I gues). Yesterday morning I woke up feeling slightly better but it got worse throughout the day. This morning I woke up feeling much worse. My voice is hoarse, my head hurts when I move it, I feel sweaty and weak, but I dont think I have much of a fever. Oh and my tongue has a very slightly yelowish color

I'm guessing this is just a normal flu?

And what should I do/eat/take? Last night after dinner I took a tylenol, and woke up in the middle of the night feeling really bad and took a paracetamol. I'm guessing that helped the fever, but I still feel terrible.

I know it's important to rest alot and let it go away by itself, but its a really important weekend coming up (and really important night tonight, to which i have about 8 hours), and I'd like to get better as soon as possible. I plan on spending the entire day in bed untill then, but I'm up for anything else that would make me better. Any suggestions?

If you're sick, you're sick.... your social life has to take a back seat until you get better.  Smile  Trying to speed up recovery tends to make things drag on longer than they might have done.

For flu-like symptoms the best policy is to take an over-the-counter painkiller every four hours (or whatever the recommendation is on the packet) to keep any fever down and reduce aches and pains.    And couple that with plenty of fluids to replace those lost in sweating, nose-blowing etc. Teas, juices, broths...  Being better hydrated should ease headaches.  Avoid rich, indigestible foods if your stomach is affected.  Plenty of rest and then let nature take its course.

As all the best OTC meds say on the packet 'if symptoms persist, see your doctor'.....

Push the fluids, just like gi-jane said.  Get rest - and don't go out until you are completely well or you will give it to your friends.

Going out is a bad ideea, the fever is a sign of infection and you are contagious at this point, the bug you picked up is most probably airborne. If it persist for more than 3 days see a doctor, antibiotics might be required.

I have a questioned related to getting sick. I think I have a cold (its all in my head and my throat). However, its making my really hungry. I don't feel good about limiting my calorie intake while I'm sick to 1300 calories. Is dieting while your sick still healthy?

When you're sick it's got to be a case of 'go with the flow'... If you lose your appetite there's no point shovelling food down.  If you're feeling in need of more energy, it's probably a good idea to eat more.  Choose what you eat carefully .... 'more energy' in the form of ten chocolate bars probably isn't going to speed your recovery!  Hope you feel better soon.

You should get tested for swine flu. The sore throat is the way it starts (my boss's son is just getting over it; he thought he had strep bcuz his throat hurt so much at the beginning. Then came the fever, a high one.)

I'm not trying to scare you, I just want you to be practical. Please don't spread the sick around by going out!
