I am so sick with a really bad cold, I'm all stuffed up with a sore throat, headache, body aches, the whole deal. I'm curious what you all do when your sick?? Do you still work out, eat the same amount of calories? HELP!

I would not work out. Your body needs that energy to recover, especially if its really bad. I do try to stay on track with calories but I don't get worried about it either. Its your time to heal and recover.
When i get sick I don't want to eat ...Except for nyquil and water and I defiantly cant work out...I end up losing about 4 pounds... I feel your pain.. try not to do too much you need your energy to get better....
Hi Tina1985,
I feel your pain. I'm sick in bed with a cold right now too
I'm not exercising and I'm eating more than usual but keeping it a little below my maintenance level.
I guess it's good to "feed" a cold but I'm trying to keep it healthy and only binging on veggies with Tabasco. Might sound yucky, but it's tasty, low cal, I've heard eating spicy things speeds metabolism and really clears up your stuffy head.
Put some socks on! J/k
I hope we feel better soon
i walked on my treadmill when I was sick to clear my nose.....I HATE having a stuffy nose and I found that if I walked, it started to clear. Dont over do it though. Drink LOTS of fluids.....I wouldnt eat as much either :(
GET WELL SOON
~H~
yes indeed, drink lots of fluids, maybe try to move around a bit, also to make yourself just feel a bit better (I always feel way sicker when I stay in bed) but don't work out vigorously or anything, that's not good, foodwise: just listen to your body right now, you should focus on getting better first, then the eating perfectly right will come again after that.
Thank you guys so much for the advice!
Hey Tina -
I know how you feel, I just got over a cold myself. If I were you I wouldn't exercise. The more you rest and get fluids, the quicker you'll get over the cold. If you're worried about maintaining your calorie count, I would try low sodium chicken broth and whole-wheat toast, or something similar to that.
Have you ever heard of a Neti pot? That's another thing I've started using to help me get over my cold. It's been on Oprah, but its been used in ayurdevic healing for a really long time. It sounds kind of gross - but it really works! You take a Neti Pot (you can buy them at Walgreens, Walmart, wherever) and fill it with saline solution (sea salt, or anything not iodized, with warm water), tilt your head over a sink down and to one side, and then - wait for it - pour the solution in one nostril while keeping your mouth pen and breathing. It runs through the nasal passages and out the other nostril, cleaning as it goes. If you're SUPER stuffed up it won't work properly, but otherwise you'll breathe MUCH better afterwards. Do it every day for a few days and you'll clear right up!
Hope this helps! Feel better!
I don't exercise when I'm sick. I drink lots of hot lemon tea, perhaps some soup, a few of my favorite fruits and I concentrate on resting.
i was sick all weekend. i tried to work out on friday and it just made things worse...so DEFINITELY just get rest, plenty of fluids, and eat as much as you think you can, cuz the food will help u get better. i hope you feel better!!
I was sick this past week & weekend. I finally went to the gym on Sunday, but took 4 days off to rest. I ate below my normal calorie intake for the most part, but only because NOTHING tasted or sounded good and I was truly not hungry. I drank plenty of fluids and got plenty of rest. I am much better now--I hope you will be too!
I like to get some mild exercise when I'm sick, just enough to get moving, not enough to wear me out. I think that some can be beneficial but you do have to be careful not to wear yourself out.
