quite sick, low calorie intake

Quote  |  Reply

For the past 3 days I've had a headache, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. I woke up today in a cold sweat with extremely low energy. Up until today I've been eating normally do with a calorie intake of 1300-1700 daily, but I've barely had 350. My breakfasts are normally 500 calories, but it's past noon and I can't bring myself to eat more because my stomach felt horrible after what little breakfast I had.

Would it be safe to eat less until I can process food again? Or should I push to 1300 calories like usual?

Id say ur sick, do what your body tells you. If you can't keep anything down, just sip on light broth or have some light crackers. Don't force yourself to eat. Make sure you stay hydrated though, try propel or watered down gatorade. Also, since its been three days of this, you might want to call a doctor and just make sure its not something serious.

I agree with pp. Fluids are most important, don't worry about calories for now. Flat soda can help an upset stomach. Follow the BRAT diet - bread, rice and toast. Avoid fruit and dairy, broth is a great idea and so is decaf tea. Feel better!

^ what they said.  A day or so of under-eating while sick is not going to hurt anything.  Many people don't eat much when they are sick.

Just make sure to stay hydrated though.

Like they said: BRAT (broth, rice, applesauce, toast), lots of fluids, and call your doctor! You should be on the upswing by now, three days is a longer time for a stomach bug.

Also, now that you've been "going" for a few days, have you tried taking something like Imodium AD for your stomach? At this point you've probably cleared out what needs to get out of you, and could try taking an anti-diarrhea medicine. It might help? I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you everybody for your advice! I usually eat eggs over easy, I'm not sure if I've caught something from that or if it's stress from having family in the hospital or a bug floating through my dorm hall. I've scheduled a doctor's appointment for tomorrow after my legs started to get sore on the way to class today, hopefully things will get better soon. Smile

salmonella contamination is possible with over easy eggs if the hen was infected...so maybe its salmonellosis.
